Outraged by Bergdahl case, fellow
soldiers break secrecy pledge to tell story

Washington Examiner [DC], by Byron York

One of the most striking elements of the Bowe Bergdahl affair is word that top Army officers were so anxious to keep the matter a secret that they directed Bergdahl´s fellow soldiers to sign a pledge of silence about his 2009 decision to walk away from duty in Afghanistan. "Many of Bergdahl´s fellow troops…signed nondisclosure agreements agreeing to never share any information about Bergdahl´s disappearance and the efforts to recapture him," wrote CNN´s Jake Tapper, who first reported the agreements last Sunday. Now, with Bergdahl back in U.S. hands, many of those former soldiers are ignoring the agreement they signed. They

I assume this is the same type of pledge the 20 + workers in Benghazi signed. Will we have to wait 5 years to hear from them.
What a corrupt administration!

Exactly when did Army Officers direct NCO´s to sign the pledge of silence forms?

Soldiers speaking out are true patriots!

Maybe since these guys have stepped up to tell the truth some Benghazi people will too. Although I think the Benghazi guys are probably lifer govt folks and therefore more reluctant.

The only "repercussions" Mr. Cornelison will receive will be the grateful thanks from the families who lost their precious sons while they were searching for the deserter, bergdahl. They DID serve with "Honor and Distinction"! As for the "pledge" to not tell the truth of what happened, IMHO it´s not worth the paper it was written on now that bergdahl is "free" and in no further "danger". Bless Josh Cornelison and all our Brave Troops!

Nondisclosure agreements are typically used to prevent industrial espionage, patent poaching, insider trading, etc.

Who got the bright idea to bring this concept into the workings of our government? Bubba?

Where there´s smoke, there´s fire... Nondisclosure agreements should be declared null and void and everything surrounding them fully explored.

Sgt Bergdahl´s defection and collaboration is a black mark on the Army brass. It will be a while before they live this one down. One of these days a Lieutenant Colonel or Colonel or maybe even a Brigadier General will tell us what happened.

How long did it take them to tell the truth about Pat Tillman?..another horrible incident in Afghanistan.

Obama´s administration has to be the most blatantly corrupt in the history of our Republic. If it´s not also the most pathetically inept--both domestically and in the exercise of foreign affairs--then it is transparently evil, as some suggest. Whether inept or evil, Obama has set the mark on hypocrisy at such a rarified altitude that no future leader will ever be able to reach it without an oxygen mask. The chutzpah that it takes to claim to be the most transparent administration in history, while demanding non-disclosure statements from diplomats and soldiers is breathtaking. Obama´s malfeasance in office is eclipsed only by complicity of the Ostrich Media.

Barack Hussein O´traitor may have brought the ghetto to our military.

If the administration or the army tries to discipline these brave whistleblowers the wrath of all branches of the military and a huge percentage of the American people will come crashing down on them.

This just may be the nail in zippy´s coffin. One way or another, he should be forced from office for high treason.

Dittos #13.

Barry has acted like the kind of South American dictator we used to make fun of - I´m thinking Juan Peron. A military coup may have crossed the minds of some of our Generals as the only way to get our country back.

If our weenie Congress doesn´t have the guts to do what the U.S. Constitution provides for them to do, the military may be our only hope.

These are interesting times.

I would assume that these former soldiers are not risk of losing their pensions (if receiving one) by violating the non-disclosure agreement. Whereas the civil service folks who know about Benghazi are at risk of losing their pensions by being terminated from their government employment.

For the sake of accuracy, Army personnel are subject to the UCMJ and not (necessarily) civilian law.

Still, operational security and clearances are part and parcel of the job. Which makes the pledge either superfluous or highly unusual - obviously the latter in this case.

Call it progress of a sort but the Obama administration now begin their cover-ups BEFORE they make their disastrous craven political move of the day.

Outrageous these soldiers were forced to pledge secrecy concerning the Bergdahl ´walkaway´. These Americans have already promised to give their lives, if need be, for their country. But to give their ´souls´ away is demanding too much. So grateful these soldiers chose not to keep silent about this.

#23. How come 40+ % of our population is oblivious to the facts that you state? Of they don´t know or care. It´s disheartening to see such a huge swath of our population support--or not oppose--the kind of behavior that led to Fast & Furious, Benghazi, IRS/Lois Lerner, the VA fiasco, and now Bergdahl and the 5 Taliban Thugs. It looks like POTUS has succeeded in dividing us. I know some of the explanation rests with a supine media, but do we really have such a large percentage of lemmings? Circumstances are beyond depressing.

But the real question here is WHY would non-disclosure agreements be required for an AWOL incident?
Stay with that. Don´t be deflected into discussions about whether or not the soldiers are telling the truth or whether or not they should have stepped forward.
Something here is not right. The convenient timing is suspect, with Obama gone, Carney about to leave and Susan Rice doing the Sundays. Parsing games going on. The Administration isn´t panicked enough for the seriousness of the charges. Obama had a secret lunch with PIAPS right before he left for Europe, so you can be sure her hoof prints are in the mix somewhere.
Could it be that the soldiers are telling *the truth as they KNOW it*... but there could be a whole lot they *don´t* know? Could it be that the non-disclosure statements were a way to keep the AWOL *incident* a secret---not about Bergdahl per se? WHY would that be?
The WH knew it could *always* defend their negotiations by claiming we won´t leave any soldier behind, so what is it about THIS incident that required non-disclosure statements?

If they made all that fuss when Bergdahl deserted/defected going to the extreme of demanding secrecy agreements from all the soldiers aware of what had happened, how in the hell did Obama think he could trade five top terrorist leaders for, at best, a deserter and bring him back as some kind of hero . . . at the time (2010) there were even news stories published that he had defected converted to Islam and was helping to train the terrorists. Obama had to know this would blow up and make a big stink. I think the idea was to kill the news focus on Benghazi and the VA, two scandals with far more potential negative impact on Obama than a freed defector.

So very many ´whys´ in the scenario. Frankly, barock INSANE obama is only attempting to help WTP reach our tipping point. He has just a few months remaining to get us so angry and full of fighting spirit it is imperative he do any and everything to reach that point. FnF did not work...we bit our lip; NSA,IRS failed. We clenched our teeth. He is searching for something to embroil us to march in the streets with pitchforks and torches calling for his empty head. He will then be calling for Martial law and rounding up the dissenters for his medical social and medical experiments and herding all into re-education camps. Will we be tattooed with numbers or will the letter O suffice? And not any will answer...what is our tipping point and at what time do we begin marching?

The soldiers who served honorably and put their lives at risk to find the POS in a BDU were harassed and grilled more intensely than Barry ever
permits Gitmo prisoners to be questioned.
Or Bergdahl will ever be.
The vile State Dept woman who impugned the integrity of these soldiers yesterday should be fired.
Along with Susan Rice.
Won´t happen , they´ll probably be promoted.
Barry said that if his " TalObam " terrorists go back to jihad ,
" we´ll " just go and recapture them.
" We " ?? " We " ????
Malia and Sasha and Michelle are
going to be crawling around the Hindu Kush searching for mass murderers ??
No, someone´s else´s loved ones will put their lives
at risk and possibly die
trying to recapture these monsters.
And.. this means Gitmo cannot be closed , because where would the recaptured TalObam be stored ?

#26 shares my initial reaction. Non-disclosure statements seem to be de-rigueur of the obamanation for preventing low-level personnel from spilling the beans. So why was this AWOL by a disaffected soldier so important that it required a full-court press by the brass? Was it because it happened on a front line out post? Was it because there was credible evidence it was desertion with the intent of joining the enemy? Or was it because Bergdahl and his mission was known and had to be protected?

Full disclosure: Tin foil hat is firmly in place and humming, which through experience we have all come to realize is a credible way to interpret events under the Regime.

The majority of us understand that zippy is a communist Manchurian Candidate, and we would be naïve to believe he is the only one, or that politics is the only venue, or that high-level operatives are the only plants. Bergdahl traveled a strange path to enlistment in the Army, including a try at joining the French Foreign Legion. His personal ideology is permeated with gauzy do-gooder “progressivism” and he holds multi-culturalism as the greatest good. He appears to have been a perfect target to groom for anti-American activities. Was he groomed by the misadministration or did they just allow the Taliban to do it? There is no doubt in my mind that President Jarrett will do anything to destabilize our military response or treat our military personnel as disposable cannon fodder. The hunt for Bergdahl tied up resources in the area for almost three months, preventing them from performing their primary missions and demoralizing the troops. The regime enables our enemies, provides them a traitor, and has an “American soldier” to be used later as a hostage swap.

Federal employees, like all Americans, are entitled to hold passionate political beliefs. Most executive branch federal employees, however, may not engage in certain political activities, thanks to an anti-conflict of interest principle enshrined in a federal law called the Hatch Act. To wit, President Bush requested the resignation of his GSA administrator in 2008 after the US Office of Special Counsel determined she had violated federal law by participating in a video conference with Karl Rove and sending out partisan letters. That´s up from 5 percent in June, and is the highest number Gallup has registered for immigration since 2006, when 15 percent said it was the nation´s most pressing problem. Gallup’s new survey found immigration is virtually tied with “dissatisfaction with government” as the nation´s top problem. The economy and unemployment rank below immigration and “dissatisfaction with government" as top problems, the new poll found. How would you feel if someone promised to give you a car, and then reneged on that pledge? That’s how all Americans should feel when it comes to ObamaCare -- because Barack Obama’s failed and discredited campaign promise to lower health insurance premiums has cost the average American family an amount equal to the price of many new cars. During his 2008 campaign, one of then-Senator Obama’s most audacious promises was that his health plan would reduce premiums by $2,500 for the average family. His repeatedly made his pledge on videotape; you can view those promises here. But health insurance premiums

CIUDAD HIDALGO, Mexico – Mexico is promising to stem the flow of Central American migrants to the United States by tightening control at its notoriously porous Guatemalan border. But messages from the country´s top two leaders in little more than a week have provided few details on how. And the scene on the ground is business as usual. Dozens of Central Americans who paid $1.50 a head could be seen this week crossing the broad Suchiate River on improvised rafts of inner tubes and wooden boards, in full view of Mexican police on the shore and immigration agents posted on

John McCain, an immigration hawk. Who knew? Mr. McCain, the highest-profile Republican of the U.S. Senate’s “Gang of Eight” that came up with amnesty as the solution to the immigration crisis — and it truly is a crisis — is finally taking a hard line against President Obama for his encouraging the tidal wave of illegal aliens swamping the southwestern border. “There has to be a halt to this,” Mr. McCain thundered Sunday on CNN. “That’s what we want, and the best way to do that is for planeloads of these young people to be returning to their country of origin

The U.S. deported Honduran children as young as 1-1/2 years old on Monday in the first flight since President Obama pledged to speed up the process of sending back illegal immigrant minors from Central America. Fleeing violence and poverty, record numbers of children from Honduras, El Salvador and Guatemala have crossed into the United States over the past year, sparking intense debate about how to solve the problem. Monday´s flight from New Mexico to San Pedro Sula, the city with the highest murder rate in the world, returned 17 Honduran women, as well as 12 girls and nine boys, aged

The Obama administration quietly announced on Tuesday that it intends to change the way Americans learn about natural disasters and other major emergencies during radio and TV broadcasts, giving the president the ability to flip a switch and address the entire nation at once. The Emergency Alert System, the latest version of a program first established in 1951, blasts out emergency messages in the event of local weather emergencies, but can also be used to warn Americans about terror attacks and major natural disasters. [Snip] It can take up to 10 minutes for every radio, TV, cable and satellite provider to

In his message to the “Mexico/Holy See Colloquium on Migration and Development,” Pope Francis characterized the tens of thousands of illegal immigrants that have crossed the U.S. southern border as a product of globalization, suggesting that the phenomenon is happening worldwide. Francis proclaimed, “Despite the large influx of migrants present in all continents and in almost all countries, migration is still seen as an emergency, or as a circumstantial and sporadic fact, while instead it has now become a hallmark of our society and a challenge.” Emmer McCarthy for Vatican Radio said Francis expressed his concern for “the tens of thousands of

The First Lady of these United States has declared war on Chick-fil-A. It seems the home of plump juicy breasts and hot buttered buns has run afoul of the new Smart Snacks in School program. The program is a component of Mrs. Obama’s Healthy, Hunger-Free Kids Act of 2010. The new government regulations require snack items served in public schools to have less than two hundred calories. That includes vending machines, lunch rooms and other campus food venues. And that’s really bad news for kids at South Carolina’s Socastee High School. They’ve just learned they will no longer be allowed to buy Chick-fil-A

“Trust” is for Con Men: The reaction to the border chaos in Texas has accomplished one thing: It has exploded the lie at the heart of current “comprehensive” immigration reform plans. The basic structure of those plans is a swap of a) near-immediate legalization for b) increased border security in the future. The appealing idea is to let current illegals stay while taking the steps necessary to prevent further waves. The lie is the assumption that, once current illegals get their legalization, pro-immigrant activists in both parties will continue to support the second half of the bargain, the increased security. Contrary to what those who defend the right to own high-powered assault rifles believe, not all guns are created equal. Due to a combination of availability, portability and criminal usage the following five types of guns are the country's most dangerous. School Shootings: Widely Reported Tragedies Since 2000 - Using firearm trace data from the ATF, as well as FBI homicide records, we determined the types of guns most often recovered from crime scenes and/or used in murders. It had to come sometime, and it came in one very bad week for the Democrats: that the many big problems with Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama finally grew too great for the press to ignore. Obama in his own different way is heading towards Nixon-like levels of weirdness, as, beaten down by the failures regarding his ventures, he appears to have quit his own job. A.B. Stoddard of the Hill says in effect he has stopped being president and chooses to live in a world of his own, shutting out the problems that have become overwhelming, giving dinners where he talks

Senate Budget Committee ranking member Sen. Jeff Sessions (R-AL) has warned all of his colleagues in Congress that President Barack Obama’s new immigration strategy—his plans to legalize millions of illegal alien adults through executive power—could destroy America as we know it. “I write to inform you of a development that threatens the foundation of our constitutional Republic,” Sessions, Congress’s top immigration hawk, wrote in a letter that was hand-delivered to all 535 members of Congress on Monday and provided exclusively to Breitbart News. Sessions cites a recent report from the National Journal, in which reporter Major Garrett detailed how, despite the ongoing

Attorney General Eric Holder encouraged Americans not to forget race while working for justice and equality in their country. “As it stands, our society is not yet color blind -- nor should it be -- given the disparities that still afflict and divide us.” Holder explained, “We must be color brave, and we must never forget that all are made better and more prosperous if all are given equal opportunities.” Holder made his remarks during a speech at Howard University on Tuesday for the 50th Anniversary Celebration of the Civil Rights Act. “We must take into account not only the

WASHINGTON — It was an enduring image of his presidency: a chastened Bill Clinton walking his dog while wife Hillary keeps her distance as the family leaves town at the height of the Monica Lewinsky scandal — but it was all part of a contrived public-repentance campaign, according to a new book. With Bill on the skids and his wife’s future prospects on the line, it was necessary for the pubic to see the president being punished, said Weekly Standard online editor Daniel Halper in his new book, “Clinton, Inc.: The Audacious Rebuilding of a Political Machine.” “They understood that
