The ghastly transaction that
freed Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl

Washington Post, by Michael B. Mukasey

The seeds of what blossomed grotesquely in the Rose Garden last weekend — a celebration of the release of five senior Taliban military leaders in exchange for a U.S. sergeant purported to be a deserter — were sown a long time ago: on the second and third days of President Obama’s first term, to be precise. On his second day in office, the president signed an executive order directing that the Guantanamo Bay detention facility be closed. You can watch the cringe-inducing video of the signing ceremony on YouTube, as the president stumbles through a reading of the order to

"Grotesque" certainly hits the nail on the head.

"Sickening" is a close second.

FTA: at precisely the time when his administration is trying to withdraw troops from Afghanistan in a way that at least will not threaten the safety of those who remain behind until the end of 2016

That´s just it: Obama has proven repeatedly that he cares nothing for the military or their safety.

It´s almost like he´s TRYING to do maximum damage, as fast as possible.

And I´ve asked many times..... if you wanted to destroy the United States -- what would you do different?

I hesitate to allow him this much credit, but I don´t buy the ´´stupid´´ or ´´incompetent´´ bit.... and he has bigger, more devious minds above him anyway.

This was The Plan all along.

There is no amount of outrage that will cover the enormity of this transaction.

We are being betrayed before our very eyes!

What will it take to save us from this rogue administration?

They knew exactly what they were doing, including the "swift boat" effect. This is right out of the pages of Saul Alinsky. Cause maximum disruption and confusion. Keep your enemy off guard. Lie like H*ll and don´t admit anything.

"Oh I am so sorry - did we forget to tell you. My bad. Won´t do it again, again, again."

O promised he would act without Congress. This is exactly what he has done and is daring Congress to do something. If they do, he wins and if they don´t, he wins.

Congress is running scared. They know the polls are against O, but the lofos will turn against Congress if they act. It is the proverbial catch 22.

Good luck America - you are going to need it because you don´t trust God anymore.

The third is impeachment, which cannot be seriously undertaken absent a national consensus for it, and none seems now to exist.

I wouldn´t be too sure of that, Mr. Mukasey. These past few days, I have actually heard the talking heads on Fox News use the term "impeachment" when discussing Barry´s actions on a number of news items. This news story and the Susan Rice laughable statement may just be the last straw for the American people - even the lo-fos. By this July 4th there just may be "bombs bursting in air" somewhere in the USA as a result of Barry´s "ghastly transaction".

As usual the comments at the end of the article are precious. The sudden respect and reverence that the liberals are showing for this creep and his weird family is not fooling anyone into believing they have become ´pro military´. The fact that Bergdahl is a deserter and admittedly anti American makes the deal that much more attractive.

Since the war in Afghanistan has not ended, nor have the Taliban in any way surrendered or stopped fighting American and NATO troops, knowingly releasing Taliban core functionaries who according to what Obama said yesterday could return to the battlefield, or in the short term who could become prime propaganda assets for the Taliban, used to be known as giving aid and comfort to the enemy, but now in the age of Obama who knows?

Keep in mind that commanders on the ground had at least three rescue opportunities and each time their rescue risk assessment told them it was not worth losing highly trained military assets to bring back a deserter.

I went on a camping retreat and within less than a week we went from a VA scandal to this.

The press is having a hard time ignoring these two events, blame Bush or to call it bipartisan.

As bad as these events are...some of others were as bad or worse. They were covered up and forgotten in short order. The press still loves him and he has over two more years to continue destroying America, with their help. Pray that our good leaders will stand firm even when the msm assault lands on them. Now, in times past, our POWs were permitted to send some letters or postcards to their family during their captivity. Geneva Convention thing you know. But since the Taliban is not a state or government and has not signed the Geneva Convention on the treatment of prisoners. I wonder just how anyone in this country knew Bergdagh wanted to be released and return home to the good ole USA?

I´m thinking that there has been an exchange of information bewteen the Taliban and the Obama Adminstration for some time, and not just about Bergdahl or for the benefit of this country.

FTA: "Every one of the five detainees released from Guantanamo...trained with and coordinated fighting with al-Qaeda before 9/11."

Which means, on a practical level, that Obama is aiding and abetting al Qaeda. Meanwhile, the TSA are still rifling through your daughter´s Dora the Explorer backpack and feeling up your wife.

Obama is surely the most immature president we´ve elected in the history of our nation. Like an indulged and spoiled child, he thinks only in terms of what can give him the most attention. The headline "President Obama frees the last prisioner of war" blossomed in his head and he was determined to bring it to fruition - the means and consequences be damned.

Enough of describing obama and those behind these treasonous acts as ghastly, incompetent, etc. These actions of obama are treasonous, and articles of impeachment are necessary to stop him and those behind obama.
What´s the excuse for not impeaching anyone who commits such acts? Is skin color a good enough excuse to allow someone to continue committing acts of treason? Or maybe to continue describing these acts as incompetent, ghastly, etc?
Treason knows no skin color, or does it?!

This president who came into office with a huge chip on his shoulder - seemingly determined to ´get even´ with America and most of its citizens - has only served to reinforce my assessment of his motives and mood.

Have very often wondered ´whose side Obama´s on´ - which has resulted in restless nights and worrisome days. These feelings of ´unease´ are increasing with frequency and a greater sense of alarm.

I doubt the Big 0 found the time between his private nightly dinners with entertainment and sports celebrities (and ValJar) plus his endless rounds of golf to pay much attention to the details of this transaction. He let a staff that is ideologically far left do the work.

In his sixth year many of the seasoned political operatives who might have anticipated the blowback on this have moved on. As Obama is insular by nature, the nation is now left with the Obama dead enders like ValJar calling the shots.

When something doesn’t look right, doesn’t sound right, doesn’t smell right, the simple conclusion is that it is NOT right. Something is amiss.

Sometimes you have to look at what’s NOT there. It’s like the optical illusion we’ve all seen. You first see a picture of a chalice, but if you focus on what it NOT there, what in the visual arts is called the “negative space,” you suddenly see that the outline of the chalice forms two opposed faces looking at each other.

Five Taliban traded for one deserter. That is what we are being shown. What we are being shown seems like a monumentally bad deal, and it would be if that was all there was to it. But was it? That is the obvious question now: is that all there was to it? Was there more to the deal that we are NOT being shown? What is in the negative space?

Obama just made a deal with the Taliban. That we know. But forget Bergdahl. He’s just the cover for releasing the Taliban bad guys. The question is, what did Obama REALLY get from the Taliban? We know these people are all political. Did Obama cut a deal with the Taliban to hold off on attacks until after the 2014 elections? If not that, then what? What was this deal REALLY about?

This article hits the nail on the head. Impeachment that results in removal from office is an impossibility, even with a Republican Senate. Wasn´t there a Republican Senate during the Clinton impeachment trial? Unless a poll shows 75% of the people and a fair number of Democrats in Congress in favor of impeachment, it cannot succeed and would only backfire on the Republicans. It looks like prayer really is our only recourse at this point.

In the foyer of the Central Intelligence Agency’s headquarters, there is a marble wall covered in stars. They are carved divots that represent those who have fallen in the service of the CIA. Below them, jutting out from the polished rock, is a black book entombed in a case of glass and steel. The book is a guide to the stars, giving the names of some of those who died and withholding the names of others. On the pages of the CIA’s Book of Honor are 107 hand-drawn stars organized by the years those officers died. For 2007, there is

SO FAR Hamas’s military campaign against Israel has been a dismal failure. Thanks in part to Israel’s Iron Dome anti-missile system, some 1,200 rockets fired at Tel Aviv, Jerusalem and other cities have caused only one Israeli death and a few other casualties. Attempted commando attacks via the sea and a tunnel were stopped short, and a drone that ventured into Israel was quickly shot down. Yet Hamas on Tuesday rejected an Egyptian cease-fire proposal that was supported by Western governments and the Arab League and had been accepted by Israel. Sarah Palin is right about impeaching President Obama. No, not that the president should be impeached. But Palin is correct in arguing that, for those who assert that Obama has grievously abused his executive authority, impeachment is the proper course of action. Of course this won’t happen, for the obvious reason that this tactic didn’t go so well for Republicans last time. Hence House Speaker John Boehner’s curt dismissal of Palin’s call for impeachment: “I disagree.” Boehner’s alternative — a lawsuit — offers the political benefits of draining impeachment fever from the more rabid Republican precincts while rallying the base

Israel’s pledge to intensify its military operation in the Gaza Strip could hasten the moment when the Obama administration will be forced to decide whether to use its leverage to corral its closest ally in the Middle East. Israeli officials, in a series of television interviews, statements and social-media venues, said Tuesday that Hamas’s rejection of a cease-fire offer validated the force it has used over eight days of conflict and made legitimate their argument for a wider military effort. The Obama administration appeared to accept that rationale, blaming the armed Islamist movement in Gaza for missing an opportunity to

ASHKELON, Israel — The roar of sirens echoed across this sun-kissed city Monday afternoon, and in a heartbeat the woman in the pink bikini was out of the pool, shepherding her three young kids to the nearest shelter. Up above, the vapor trail of a rocket fired from Gaza, just 10 miles down the coast, ripped the clear blue sky. And then, a boom: The rocket had been shot down. The kids jumped back in the seaside pool, and their mother returned to her tanning. Through it all, the lifeguard had barely stirred. Such is the dichotomous reality this week

Canadian Prime Minister
Condemns Obama, West

In a stunning rebuke of President Obama’s tepid calls for Israel to show "restraint" in response to daily rocket fire on Israeli civilian targets by Hamas terror redoubts in Gaza, Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper, long considered Israel’s best friend and strongest defender, all but condemned President Obama by name for what he regards as Washington’s irresolute support for Israel during its time of grave crisis. In perhaps his most strongly worded statement to date, Prime Minister Harper proclaimed that self defense is "not merely an Israeli right" to be exercised only in the abstract, but an "Israeli obligation" that

Ponder for a minute what AFSCME has done. The union has severed ties with the United Negro College Fund because the Koch brothers contributed $25 million to the fund. Or rather, because the fund accepted the contribution. The money will pay for 3,000 scholarships and other needs. To read about this episode, go here. The hatred whipped up against the Koch brothers has become nearly frightening, I think. It is undemocratic, unsettling, intolerant. I’ve never liked it when left-leaning types say, “So-and-so scares me,” or, “This scares me.” There was a bumper sticker in the 2000s that said Bush Scares

Maybe it is time for a shake-up. President Obama’s second-term staffing was always going to be a risk. He abandoned his first term’s team of rivals for a closer-knit team of loyalists. The bet was that he was assured enough in the job to no longer need the in-house challenge — and that smooth-running consensus would compensate for the loss. The bet isn’t paying off. Overseas and at home, the administration seems besieged and befuddled. Obama is in danger of cementing an image of haplessness that would be hard to undo. The administration was surprised when Russian President Vladimir Putin

The U.S. deported Honduran children as young as 1-1/2 years old on Monday in the first flight since President Obama pledged to speed up the process of sending back illegal immigrant minors from Central America. Fleeing violence and poverty, record numbers of children from Honduras, El Salvador and Guatemala have crossed into the United States over the past year, sparking intense debate about how to solve the problem. Monday´s flight from New Mexico to San Pedro Sula, the city with the highest murder rate in the world, returned 17 Honduran women, as well as 12 girls and nine boys, aged

The Obama administration quietly announced on Tuesday that it intends to change the way Americans learn about natural disasters and other major emergencies during radio and TV broadcasts, giving the president the ability to flip a switch and address the entire nation at once. The Emergency Alert System, the latest version of a program first established in 1951, blasts out emergency messages in the event of local weather emergencies, but can also be used to warn Americans about terror attacks and major natural disasters. [Snip] It can take up to 10 minutes for every radio, TV, cable and satellite provider to

In his message to the “Mexico/Holy See Colloquium on Migration and Development,” Pope Francis characterized the tens of thousands of illegal immigrants that have crossed the U.S. southern border as a product of globalization, suggesting that the phenomenon is happening worldwide. Francis proclaimed, “Despite the large influx of migrants present in all continents and in almost all countries, migration is still seen as an emergency, or as a circumstantial and sporadic fact, while instead it has now become a hallmark of our society and a challenge.” Emmer McCarthy for Vatican Radio said Francis expressed his concern for “the tens of thousands of

The First Lady of these United States has declared war on Chick-fil-A. It seems the home of plump juicy breasts and hot buttered buns has run afoul of the new Smart Snacks in School program. The program is a component of Mrs. Obama’s Healthy, Hunger-Free Kids Act of 2010. The new government regulations require snack items served in public schools to have less than two hundred calories. That includes vending machines, lunch rooms and other campus food venues. And that’s really bad news for kids at South Carolina’s Socastee High School. They’ve just learned they will no longer be allowed to buy Chick-fil-A

“Trust” is for Con Men: The reaction to the border chaos in Texas has accomplished one thing: It has exploded the lie at the heart of current “comprehensive” immigration reform plans. The basic structure of those plans is a swap of a) near-immediate legalization for b) increased border security in the future. The appealing idea is to let current illegals stay while taking the steps necessary to prevent further waves. The lie is the assumption that, once current illegals get their legalization, pro-immigrant activists in both parties will continue to support the second half of the bargain, the increased security. John McCain, an immigration hawk. Who knew? Mr. McCain, the highest-profile Republican of the U.S. Senate’s “Gang of Eight” that came up with amnesty as the solution to the immigration crisis — and it truly is a crisis — is finally taking a hard line against President Obama for his encouraging the tidal wave of illegal aliens swamping the southwestern border. “There has to be a halt to this,” Mr. McCain thundered Sunday on CNN. “That’s what we want, and the best way to do that is for planeloads of these young people to be returning to their country of origin

Contrary to what those who defend the right to own high-powered assault rifles believe, not all guns are created equal. Due to a combination of availability, portability and criminal usage the following five types of guns are the country's most dangerous. School Shootings: Widely Reported Tragedies Since 2000 - Using firearm trace data from the ATF, as well as FBI homicide records, we determined the types of guns most often recovered from crime scenes and/or used in murders. The numbers are stark: According to the FBI's 2012 Crime in the US data, nearly 70 percent of homicides for which the FBI received weapons data involved the use

It had to come sometime, and it came in one very bad week for the Democrats: that the many big problems with Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama finally grew too great for the press to ignore. Obama in his own different way is heading towards Nixon-like levels of weirdness, as, beaten down by the failures regarding his ventures, he appears to have quit his own job. A.B. Stoddard of the Hill says in effect he has stopped being president and chooses to live in a world of his own, shutting out the problems that have become overwhelming, giving dinners where he talks

Senate Budget Committee ranking member Sen. Jeff Sessions (R-AL) has warned all of his colleagues in Congress that President Barack Obama’s new immigration strategy—his plans to legalize millions of illegal alien adults through executive power—could destroy America as we know it. “I write to inform you of a development that threatens the foundation of our constitutional Republic,” Sessions, Congress’s top immigration hawk, wrote in a letter that was hand-delivered to all 535 members of Congress on Monday and provided exclusively to Breitbart News. Sessions cites a recent report from the National Journal, in which reporter Major Garrett detailed how, despite the ongoing

Attorney General Eric Holder encouraged Americans not to forget race while working for justice and equality in their country. “As it stands, our society is not yet color blind -- nor should it be -- given the disparities that still afflict and divide us.” Holder explained, “We must be color brave, and we must never forget that all are made better and more prosperous if all are given equal opportunities.” Holder made his remarks during a speech at Howard University on Tuesday for the 50th Anniversary Celebration of the Civil Rights Act. “We must take into account not only the

WASHINGTON — It was an enduring image of his presidency: a chastened Bill Clinton walking his dog while wife Hillary keeps her distance as the family leaves town at the height of the Monica Lewinsky scandal — but it was all part of a contrived public-repentance campaign, according to a new book. With Bill on the skids and his wife’s future prospects on the line, it was necessary for the pubic to see the president being punished, said Weekly Standard online editor Daniel Halper in his new book, “Clinton, Inc.: The Audacious Rebuilding of a Political Machine.” “They understood that
