Why did 287,000-plus
Californians vote for Leland Yee?

San Francisco Chronicle, by Joe Garofoli

Original Article

Posted By:sardonic, 6/4/2014 4:01:47 PM

One of the odder stats of Election Night: As of Wednesday morning, 287,590 Californians had cast ballots for indicted state Sen. Leland Yee for secretary of state. That’s good for nearly 10 percent of the vote. That’s also more votes than five other secretary of state candidates who haven’t been indicted received. Never mind for a second that the San Francisco Democrat has been indicted on multiple federal money laundering and weapons charges. Yee DROPPED OUT of the race in March. Folks were voting for an indicted man who didn’t even want their votes. On a largely sleepy election night, the Twittersphere was full of tweets

Because he was in and out of the news quickly here in the Bay Area. Because the news reports only mentioned his name at the beginning of reports and mentioned his party at the very end, if at all. Because the news here in the Bay area is a manufactured liberal talking point script every night. Because most voters here are liberals first and foremost and would blame racist sexist homophobe republicans or global warming even if Yee was found naked with a 10 year-old boy.

I´m so skeptical of making a difference with my vote, and so irritated with my choices in general, I actually considered voting for the lying hypocritical criminal myself. Had he won second place it would have been even more farcical than the rest of the voting.... but I didn´t do it. I suspect that a lot of his votes came from similar reasonings.

But still, Yee would be one of theirs.

Gabe Luddy, fourth-generation cheesemaker at Vella Cheese Co. in Sonoma, makes his Dry Jack the same way his grandfather and great-grandfather did - he rolls and presses curds into large wheels of cheese, then brines and coats the wheels before sliding them onto wooden racks. There they age, from seven months to several years. A U.S. Food & Drug Administration statement that became public last week puts Vella's 83-year-old practice in doubt. In what the agency called a clarification, the FDA declared that wooden racks similar to the one Vella uses "cannot be adequately cleaned and sanitized."

San Leandro police are creating a task force to tackle recent cases of “wilding,” robberies and other attacks said to be committed by large groups of people, including an incident in which a group briefly tried to take a car with a 2-year-old child inside, officials said. Police said there have been at least three incidents in the city over the past month in which mobs of assailants have targeted victims for their cell phones, electronics, expensive sneakers and other property.

It´s a fact of American life that a good share of the electorate is disappointed, disapproving and even disdainful of President Obama. What´s less certain are the reasons why. For some Democrats, the explanation is simple: race. In recent weeks, West Virginia Sen. Jay Rockefeller, Mississippi Rep. Bennie Thompson and former Florida Gov. Charlie Crist have all said racism is the driving force behind Republican resistance to the president. Republicans, unsurprisingly, say their disdain for Obama is based not on the color of his skin, but on the content of his policies. Supervisor London Breed plans to announce legislation Tuesday afternoon that would earmark $2.6 million to rehabilitate 172 public housing units that are currently too run down for people to live in - housing she wants to be used for homeless families. Breed is asking the city to spend the money immediately and outside the normal budget process - and possibly to circumvent federal housing law, which requires hopeful public housing residents to be called off a wait list that has been full, and closed, for years.

On April 1, the U.S. economy dropped a whopping 2.9 percent for the first three months of the year (no fooling). The American workforce participation rate fell to a 40-year low. One-third of people aged 18-29 have moved back in with their parents. Millions of Americans this summer will enjoy yet another “staycation”: They just can’t afford to go to the beach or the mountains, even for a week — again. (Snip) Forget that the United States is deep into what Mr. Obama dramatically declares a “humanitarian crisis,” that the Middle East is a powder keg about to blow, that Iraq has all but fallen to Islamist terrorists. A Fox News exclusive reported this morning by Jana Winter inexplicably buried the lede. Winter reports that several dead children have been discovered “washed up along the riverbank” of the Rio Grande, but fails to note that there have been no reports by the Obama administration on this. This indicates a pattern of covering up dead illegal alien kids by the Obama administration. It was two weeks before news was reported on the sole child death acknowledged by the Obama administration, Gilberto Ramos, a 15 year-old boy from Guatemala whose body was found in the Texas brush dead from the

The First Lady of these United States has declared war on Chick-fil-A. It seems the home of plump juicy breasts and hot buttered buns has run afoul of the new Smart Snacks in School program. The program is a component of Mrs. Obama’s Healthy, Hunger-Free Kids Act of 2010. The new government regulations require snack items served in public schools to have less than two hundred calories. That includes vending machines, lunch rooms and other campus food venues. And that’s really bad news for kids at South Carolina’s Socastee High School. They’ve just learned they will no longer be allowed to buy Chick-fil-A

Brazil’s President Dilma Rousseff got an ‘F’ after the nation’s soccer team lost to Germany. “Trust” is for Con Men: The reaction to the border chaos in Texas has accomplished one thing: It has exploded the lie at the heart of current “comprehensive” immigration reform plans. The basic structure of those plans is a swap of a) near-immediate legalization for b) increased border security in the future. The appealing idea is to let current illegals stay while taking the steps necessary to prevent further waves. The lie is the assumption that, once current illegals get their legalization, pro-immigrant activists in both parties will continue to support the second half of the bargain, the increased security. Where is the red line of impeachment? In theory, a red line might be located somewhere on a list of impeachable offenses – perhaps at the point where a certain number of transgressions is exceeded, or next to a specific instance because of its significance or impact. In reality, though, that red line exists along a spectrum of “political will.” As Andrew McCarthy explained: “You can have a thousand provable impeachable offenses, but before Congress may remove the president from power, there must be strong popular support – a public will that cuts across partisan and ideological lines.”
