Liberal Austin homeowners surprised

NIMBY, literally. “I’m at the breaking point,” said Gretchen Gardner, an Austin artist who bought a 1930s bungalow in the Bouldin neighborhood just south of downtown in 1991 and has watched her property tax bill soar to $8,500 this year. “It’s not because I don’t like paying taxes,” said Gardner, who attended both meetings. “I have voted for every park, every library, all the school improvements, for light rail, for anything that will make this city better. But now I can’t afford to live here anymore. I’ll protest my appraisal notice, but that’s not enough. Someone needs to step in

When I lived in Austin, I voted AGAINST every spending proposal whether it benefitted me or not, made the city better or not. I simply didn´t want more public services and preferred to have more money in my pocket. Sadly, too few in Austin grok that concept. I laugh in Gretchen Gardner´s face.

A liberal who is who is surprised when she has to live with her decisions. The city is so "better" that she cannot afford to live there. Sounds a lot like most of the cities that liberals infest - we have a few here in New Mexico - Santa Fe, Silver City, Ruidoso. Rich Californians moved out here and now normal people cannot afford to live there.

Of course, Austin also has the 50,000 young, property-less students at the University of Texas at Austin voting in Austin instead of in their parent´s districts across the state. These clueless young liberals vote for every bike path and park that are put on the ballot, then graduate from school and move away without ever paying a dime of property taxes that pay for their largess. And, the liberal Austin politicians use them like a rented mule to do this.

I live in Austin. It´s a really pretty part of Texas, but the lie-berals that infest Austin are quickly making it unlivable for anyone but rich limousine lie-berals.

It is the home of UT. 50,000 young, and mostly brain-dead lie-berals. They would love to stay here in this lie-beral Mecca after they graduate, but the lie-berals who run things have made it impossible for young people to stay here. It´s just gotten way too expensive.

When I first moved here about 30 years ago, I bought my first house for less than $50,000. It was 3 bedrooms and 2 baths which was built back in the 1940´s. Nothing fancy, but affordable, close to downtown, and a great starter house. That same house would sell for $250,000 now, and it´s a in a lot worse condition than when I first bought it.

That reality is what turns a lot of those brain-dead lie-beral college students in to conservative working people within a few years of when they graduate and leave Austin.

In the foyer of the Central Intelligence Agency’s headquarters, there is a marble wall covered in stars. They are carved divots that represent those who have fallen in the service of the CIA. Below them, jutting out from the polished rock, is a black book entombed in a case of glass and steel. The book is a guide to the stars, giving the names of some of those who died and withholding the names of others. On the pages of the CIA’s Book of Honor are 107 hand-drawn stars organized by the years those officers died. For 2007, there is

SO FAR Hamas’s military campaign against Israel has been a dismal failure. Thanks in part to Israel’s Iron Dome anti-missile system, some 1,200 rockets fired at Tel Aviv, Jerusalem and other cities have caused only one Israeli death and a few other casualties. Attempted commando attacks via the sea and a tunnel were stopped short, and a drone that ventured into Israel was quickly shot down. Yet Hamas on Tuesday rejected an Egyptian cease-fire proposal that was supported by Western governments and the Arab League and had been accepted by Israel. Why would Hamas insist on continuing the fight when

Sarah Palin is right about impeaching President Obama. No, not that the president should be impeached. But Palin is correct in arguing that, for those who assert that Obama has grievously abused his executive authority, impeachment is the proper course of action. Of course this won’t happen, for the obvious reason that this tactic didn’t go so well for Republicans last time. Hence House Speaker John Boehner’s curt dismissal of Palin’s call for impeachment: “I disagree.” Boehner’s alternative — a lawsuit — offers the political benefits of draining impeachment fever from the more rabid Republican precincts while rallying the base

Israel’s pledge to intensify its military operation in the Gaza Strip could hasten the moment when the Obama administration will be forced to decide whether to use its leverage to corral its closest ally in the Middle East. Israeli officials, in a series of television interviews, statements and social-media venues, said Tuesday that Hamas’s rejection of a cease-fire offer validated the force it has used over eight days of conflict and made legitimate their argument for a wider military effort. The Obama administration appeared to accept that rationale, blaming the armed Islamist movement in Gaza for missing an opportunity to

Four out of five illegal immigrants seeking driver’s licenses under a new D.C. law have failed a written knowledge test — a rocky start to a program that in its first two months has issued 268 licenses, according to city officials. The failure rate of 80 percent compares with a 58 percent failure rate for people seeking traditional driver’s licenses, the Department of Motor Vehicles told a D.C. Council committee. President Obama has described his foreign-policy doctrine as an attempt to hit singles, doubles and the occasional home run. “Trust” is for Con Men: The reaction to the border chaos in Texas has accomplished one thing: It has exploded the lie at the heart of current “comprehensive” immigration reform plans. The basic structure of those plans is a swap of a) near-immediate legalization for b) increased border security in the future. The appealing idea is to let current illegals stay while taking the steps necessary to prevent further waves. The lie is the assumption that, once current illegals get their legalization, pro-immigrant activists in both parties will continue to support the second half of the bargain, the increased security.
