A Catonsville letter carrier who worked for the postal service for more than two decades stole more than 20,000 pieces of mail, according to federal authorities. Jeffrey L. Shipley is accused of pilfering checks and money orders. He is accused of filching passports and prescription medication. He is accused of pilfering credit cards and Mother´s Day cards. He is even accused of stealing furniture from the United States Postal Service. Shipley was charged in federal court last week with one count each of mail theft and delaying the mail. More government corruption. Authorities can´t report anyone in fear of exposing their own corruption.

OP asked how much of this goes on nationwide. I don´t know but the amount must be staggering.

In my small town I know of at least two postal employees caught not delivering mail. They weren´t stealing it....just throwing it away when they didn´t feel like delivering it. One was caught when someone discovered a huge pile under a bridge.

FTA: His father, Foster Shipley, said he was not close to his son but could not imagine him stealing anything. "He wasn´t that type of person," Foster Shipley said.

Clearly, he is that type of person.

Sunken into the plaid couch of his cinder-block room, John Flentie spends nearly every waking hour obsessed with obtaining his freedom. “I merely want to go home,” he says. At 73, the once-affluent Parkville resident is not a criminal inmate, nor is he an enemy combatant. Instead — to the extreme frustration of Flentie, his lawyer and a cadre of former high school classmates who for two years have been advocating for the release of a friend they insist is as capable and highly intelligent as always — Flentie is a ward of the state of Missouri. Since April 2012, he has been committed to various nursing homes under the guardianship

As expected, the Seattle City Council this afternoon passed the historic $15-an-hour minimum-wage bill that Mayor Murray and the City has spent months hammering out. With all nine Council members in attendance (Councilmember Tom Rasmussen was late), the minimum wage bill was approved unanimously, even earning the endorsement of socialist Kshama Sawant by the time the dust settled. The vote followed the failed introduction of amendments favored by Sawant to quicken implementation of the bill (4-5), remove training wages (4-5), remove the tip credit (1-8), and speed-up the process for requiring big business
