Photo Scandal Colors GOP
Battle for Miss. Senate Seat

Real Clear Politics, by Caitlin Huey-Burns

The Republican Senate primary in Mississippi has looked to be one of the more definitive races in the so-called Tea Party vs. Establishment showdown this cycle. Its makings are nearly textbook: A 41-year-old state senator and attorney running to oust a 76-year-old incumbent who has been in Washington since Richard Nixon was president and who has measured his success by the money he’s brought back to the state. But the election Tuesday could also be shaped by something no one foresaw -- voter response to a blogger scandal that has put the race in flux. With polls showing a neck-and-neck race,

Only in the minds of hack reporters.
Cochran has been there for 42 years..he put his wife in a nursing home in Mississippi, and lives in the "basement" of his girlfriend´s house. wink wink. She is his constant "traveling companion". Cochran has no moral compass, and his past record stinks.

I live in northern Mississippi and Thad Cochran has been our senator forever. We have not heard a word from him in years (I periodically check his website to see if he is still even alive!) /s No word from him on any issue until now and he suddenly thinks he deserves to continue to represent us. What a joke! His has been one of the sleaziest campaigns I remember. Time for him to come back home to Mississippi and take care of his wife.

This ginned-up "scandal" highlights why reforming the GOP from within is futile. Those who entertain this fantasy forget the considerable resources that the Establishment has to strike back.

Until we replace the establishment GOP, they will be the source of the most dirty deceitful attacks on Tea Party challengers. But the tricks aren´t working as well. And one by one the establishment is being beaten or retired. The way to win this is at the local level with communication through e-mails and social media.

TAQIYYAH

Keep in mind, Islam has an unwavering dictate to its adherents: LIE IF YOU HAVE TO.

No other religion has this directive. Islam not only permits but encourages lying to get converts...and if not converts, then power and possession. Challenge anyone who says that Muslims are "friends" or that Islam is peaceful: why do you advocate taqiyyah if you have no ill intent?

Two points;

1) Does this author really believe that this race is about "...whether seniority can trump cries for a fresh face."?
2) Wouldn´t it be interesting if the nursing home photographers turn out to be Cochran operatives?

Well, yes, it would be interesting if Mark Mayfield, vice chairman of the Mississippi Tea Party, did turn out to be a Cochran operative, because in a way it would make Cochran the Tea Party candidate. But somehow, I don´t think that´s going to happen.

WASHINGTON -- Tackling what he has called a humanitarian crisis, President Barack Obama on Tuesday asked Congress for $3.7 billion to cope with a tide of minors from Central America who are illegally crossing the U.S. southern border, straining immigration resources and causing a political firestorm in Washington. The White House says the money would help increase the detention, care and transportation of unaccompanied children, help speed the removal of adults with children by increasing the capacity of immigration courts, and would increase prosecution of smuggling networks. The money would also increase surveillance at the U.S. border and help Central American

Democrat Bruce Braley, who was caught on tape in January making a remark that seemed to besmirch Iowa farmers, has been caught on tape seemingly claiming to be one. "We´re farmers," a parade attendee appears to tells Braley, a U.S. Senate candidate, during the Fourth of July parade in Iowa Falls last weekend. "So am I," Braley answers in a video shared with The Des Moines Register today. "But so is Grassley," says the woman, who is seated in a lawn chair on the side of the road. "So am I," Braley insists. The quest to save the ISEE-3—a long-lost NASA probe launched in the disco era and abandoned in the dot-com boom—might just succeed. Late last week, the amateur scientists and engineers working to salvage the probe hit a major milestone: They coaxed the craft into firing its rotational thrusters. The achievement is important for many reasons. While the amateur team trying to reboot the ISEE-3 has been in radio contact with the probe for more than a month, this is the first time it has successfully commanded moving parts onboard. It’s important for technical reasons. The ISEE-3 is “spin-stabilized,” meaning it

Nearly half of insurance brokers polled nationally have considered leaving the industry in the wake of the Affordable Care Act (ACA) – meanwhile, employers say they need them more than ever before, according to a report by Aflac. A potential exodus of brokers could make it more difficult for large and small businesses to lose that expertise just as things are getting really complicated. Brokers help companies give employees the best and most affordable coverage and insure they comply with the complexities of the ACA. Brokers have been on the front lines of the ACA changes that are forcing businesses, hospitals and

It´s still a little unclear exactly how much money President Obama will request to deal with the crisis of thousands of families and unaccompanied children crossing the border into the United States illegally. But there are indications the vast majority of the funding will go to caring for the illegal immigrants who are already here -- feeding, housing, and transporting them to new American homes -- while a far smaller amount will go to sending some of those immigrants back to their home countries and preventing future immigrants from crossing into the U.S. illegally. The president will ask for a

How an obscure Mississippi state senator became the poster boy for all that’s wrong with the right. There is an odd sort of political bubble emanating from my home state of Mississippi. And like most bubbles, it has more to do with wish fulfillment than reality. As Carmen Reinhart and Kenneth Rogoff observed in their classic This Time Is Different, “there are usually remarkable similarities of past experience” linking manias that, in retrospect, seem so obviously unhinged. Believing that tulips are the most valuable commodities in international commerce or betting that house prices can only go up requires a suspension of critical

It’s something like Vietnam, all over again. As the rebels of the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria — usually shortened to ISIS — close in on the Iraqi capital, the parallels to the fall of Saigon are hard to miss. Forty-one years ago, the last U.S. combat troops had withdrawn from South Vietnam, and within a month, the North Vietnamese Army, complete with heavy armor, began its final offensive. The last chapter of the war that took 58,000 American lives was the humiliating scene of U.S. Marine helicopters plucking American diplomats from the roof of the U.S. Embassy on April

The bad news first. The People´s Republic of China now believes it can successfully prevent the United States from intervening in the event of a Chinese invasion of Taiwan or some other military assault by Beijing. Now the good news. China is wrong — and for one major reason. It apparently disregards the decisive power of America´s nuclear-powered submarines. Moreover, for economic and demographic reasons Beijing has a narrow historical window in which to use its military to alter the world´s power structure. If China doesn´t make a major military move in the next couple decades, it probably never will. The U.S. Navy´s

Aerospace giant Boeing finds itself in a fishy fight against Native Americans and environmentalists over pollution in the waterways -- a disagreement that could affect where Washington state´s largest employer builds the next generation of planes. At the heart of the fight, which could impact thousands of jobs, is a peculiar question: How much locally caught fish do Washingtonians eat, and what are the health risks? Green groups, alone with Washington state tribes, have sued the Environmental Protection Agency to push for increased fish consumption rates -- currently set at six-and-a-half grams a day. WASHINGTON -- To hear President Barack Obama describe it, there´s a creeping case of cynicism setting in across the country, leading Americans to suspect that not only is Washington broken, it´s beyond fixing. Gone unchecked, Obama says, that line of thinking could become a self-fulfilling prophecy with dire long-term ramifications. If compromise-minded Americans get so frustrated they just tune out, lawmakers will feel even less pressure to work together for the good of the country. With a mix of alarm and dismay, Obama has started musing about the dangers of cynicism in nearly every major public appearance. The cautionary note

The White House said over and over again Monday that Obama will not travel to the border with Mexico despite flying to Texas this week to raise money for Democratic candidates there.
