Crown Prince Felipe, 45, has assumed the king´s duties on many occasions in recent years, as health problems have taken their toll on Juan Carlos. Felipe is Prince of Asturias and every year he bestows the prestigious Asturias awards on outstanding achievers in the arts and sciences. He is the monarch´s only son, and has two elder sisters. In 2004 he married a star TV presenter, Letizia, and they have two daughters - Leonor and Sofia. Since 1996 Felipe has represented Spain at the swearing-in ceremonies for presidents in Latin America.

And his wife is the gorgeous Letizia, who will now be queen.

We remember her from Moochelle´s lunch with the royal family on Mallorca. Mooch went dressed as a housemaid. Letizia is on the far right:

We´re guessing the four-letter words were coming fast and furious from atop Willis Tower (formerly Sears Tower) on Wednesday afternoon. A group of tourists checking out the Skydeck on the 103rd floor of the Chicago skyscraper received the shock of a lifetime when the glass pane they were standing on began to crack, NBC Chicago reports.(Snip) Tourists who go to the very top of the skyscraper are given the opportunity to step out onto "the Ledge," a series of glass boxes made of three layers of glass built to hold five tons, and then look straight down on the Windy City.

If there´s one thing Republican Neel Kashkari needed this week to stay in the running for governor of California, it was money. And he got it. Big donors have started spending more than $650,000 promoting the Laguna Beach newcomer to California politics. Combined with the $4 million that Kashkari is spending, he´s on track to benefit from nearly 10 times as much money as his top Republican rival, Assemblyman Tim Donnelly of Twin Peaks. Still, one critical question haunts Kashkari´s candidacy with the June 3 primary 10 days away: Is it too late? By Friday, more than 1 million Californians had already cast early

Oprah has punted, for now, on a planned documentary series about openly gay NFL draftee Michael Sam. The Oprah Winfrey Network announced Friday it will postpone the untitled documentary, claiming it didn’t want to hurt the fledgling football star’s chances of making it onto the St. Louis Rams. The team drafted Sam, the first openly gay player drafted by the National Football League, last week in a ground-breaking moment for professional sports. Cameramen for the documentary would have followed the former University of Missouri defensive end as he tried to earn a spot on the squad. The show’s air date and the number of

Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl, the last known American POW, was freed after five years in captivity — an ordeal that began and ended in Afghanistan under a shroud of mystery. The Taliban turned over Bergdahl Saturday morning to US special forces in exchange for five notorious Islamic militants who had been held at Guantanamo Bay and will be sent to Qatar, where they will stay for a year under the terms of the trade. At least one of the prisoners, ranking Taliban leader Khairullah Khairkhwa, had direct ties to Osama bin Laden. Bergdahl was picked up by helicopter in western Afghanistan, near the Pakistan border.

Day 1,956 of his presidency was not too kind to President Obama. Having to announce within a four-hour span that he had lost both an embattled Cabinet secretary and his chief spokesman, Obama looked Friday like a man gamely trying to get a stalled administration back on track. He entered the week still stuck with low approval ratings and facing fierce criticism of his policies both at home and abroad. On Wednesday, he tried to chart a new course internationally with a West Point speech setting out a new foreign policy. On Thursday, he dealt with widespread criticism of the speech.

The sense of pride expressed by officials of the Obama administration at the release of Army Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl is not shared by many of those who served with him -- veterans and soldiers who call him a deserter whose "selfish act" ended up costing the lives of better men. "I was * off then and I am even more so now with everything going on," said former Sergeant Matt Vierkant, a member of Bergdahl´s platoon when he went missing on June 30, 2009. "Bowe Bergdahl deserted during a time of war and his fellow Americans lost their lives searching for him. Vierkant said Bergdahl needs to not only acknowledge his actions publicly

Is the end near? Scientists at Duke University say the world is on the brink of its sixth great extinction, since certain species of plants and animals are now dying out at least 1,000 times faster than they did before humans came into existence. The study, published Thursday in the journal Science, measured the the rate at which species are disappearing from Earth. In 1995, the researchers found that the pre-human rate of extinctions was roughly 1. Now, that rate is about 100 to 1,000. Stuart Pimm, the study's lead author, said habitat loss is mostly to blame for the increasing death rates. As humans continue to alter and destroy more land,

President Obama's weekly remarks Hi, everybody. I’m here at Children’s National Medical Center in Washington, D.C., visiting with some kids being treated here all the time for asthma and other breathing problems. Often, these illnesses are aggravated by air pollution — pollution from the same sources that release carbon and contribute to climate change. And for the sake of all our kids, we’ve got to do more to reduce it.

When one thinks of mass murder, Hitler comes to mind. If not Hitler, then Tojo, Stalin, or Mao. Credit is given to the 20th-century totalitarians as the worst species of tyranny to have ever arisen. However, the alarming truth is that Islam has killed more than any of these, and may surpass all of them combined in numbers and cruelty. The enormity of the slaughters of the "religion of peace" are so far beyond comprehension that even honest historians overlook the scale. When one looks beyond our myopic focus, Islam is the greatest killing machine in the history of mankind,

You would think a state with such dire financial problems couldn’t even consider spending such a large sum of tax dollars on something that’s usually built with private money. Luckily, the Illinois House has backed off the idea for the moment. USA Today reported… Illinois shelving $100M gift to Obama library A plan to offer $100 million in tax dollars to lure Barack Obama’s presidential library to Illinois is on the shelf, with lawmakers prepared to wrap up their spring session without advancing the idea. Democrats in the president’s home state pushed the proposal to compete against rival bids from Hawaii and New York.
