Debate Stirs Over
US-Taliban Captive Swap

WASHINGTON -- Army Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl can expect a buoyant homecoming after five years in Taliban hands, but those in the government who worked for his release face mounting questions over the prisoner swap that won his freedom. Even in the first hours of Bergdahl´s handoff to U.S. special forces in eastern Afghanistan, it was clear this would not be an uncomplicated yellow-ribbon celebration. Five terrorist suspects also walked free, stirring a debate in Washington over whether the exchange will heighten the risk of other Americans being snatched as bargaining chips and whether the released detainees - several senior Taliban figures

My, how quickly this one has gone from "released POW" to Obama Scandalgate #247. When we had a legitimate commander in chief, the Left did nothing but question, and then condemn, his intentions after 9/11. Let´s hope Dear Leader´s intentions are now thoroughly questioned - and exposed.

So is this O´s strategy for closing Gitmo?

Pretty slick - 1 for 5 - got back a deserter democrat voter at that - cleans out some prisoners, saves money, sticks it to Republicans and plays golf - all on the same day. What a leader! No wonder they said it was a good day.

What I want to know if these terrorists were so violent and responsible for so many American deaths why are they still alive? Why wasn´t a military trial held and either convict and execute or release them? I now assume obama will swap the remaining Gitmo detainees for the American that will now be taken captive by the Taliban or Al Qaeda. That´s how Gitmo will be closed by obama and nothing will be done to stop him. He is king.

Apparently the Obama Doctrine (not to be confused with the Monroe Doctrine or the Teddy Roosevelt Doctrine) now consists of a combination of Catch and Release Our Enemies plus No Deserter Left Behind. I suspect we´re going to see this repeated over the remaining years of his term.

They are to be banned from leaving Qatar for at least a year.

This is dangerously naive to believe Qatar will honor this ban. Our naif in the White House knows this; his motive was to get them released to wreak havoc on the country he hates -- America.

This illegal swap should send tsunamis of outrage through Congress at being ignored (again) by this POTUS, for whom our laws do not apply. He has appointed himself the arbiter of what is right and proper, facts be damned.

His agenda, that of destroying America´s freedom and prosperity and superpower-status, is going apace. I´m sure the Left is pleased.

Now it´s up to Congress to stop him from breaking our laws, which he has repeatedly broken. What is to stop him from postponing (permanently) our free elections?

Do you think some smart mooohamidian Boko Haramist hiding in a tent, cave or jungle hut in Nigeria might come up with the idea to swap the remaining Gitmo detainees for the kidnapped girls? Sounds like a Obama-ality to me. Can you imagine the amount of money being spent on Dominoes and Chinese take out to feed 300 girls? These mooohamidian Boko Haramist cowards should be collected from the jungle and placed on an iceberg participating in the spring melt. Their gang name could be changed to Global Warming Haram.

They didn´t lift a finger or say a word re Obama attacking Libya W/out Congress´ approval. More than emboldened, now Obama does whatever he wants. Hagel, the one who put on the disheveled, too-dumb act during his nomination is laying down the usual propaganda, trying to justify the admin actions, that Bergdahl´s health was at risk is bs. He is a deserter! Those five released need to be tracked down and killed, too bad we do not have a mercenary force to accomplish it bc Obama won´t do it.

Since we no longer have the guts to hang traitors, spending the rest of his life in Leavenworth works for me. Put him in the general population and let the rest of the prisoners handle it.

Just another scandal to divert from yesterday´s scandal and to be replaced by tomorrow´s scandal all contributing to the endless line of scandals dwindling off into the obscurity of the past. This is the Obama presidency: govern by scandal but keep it fresh so that there´s no time to bring charges on the old scandals because everyone is fixated on the new scandal. In the words of the once Secretary of State as regards old unconstitutional law breaking and unethical behavior now lost in the mists of time (more than a month) "at this point what difference does it make?" To which everyone nods their head and then LOOK! another squirrel.

Please consider this framework for analyzing the POW release:

Without informing Congress, this pro-Muslim President negotiated with terrorists for the release of a freak Army PFC deserter in return for the release of 5 high value, extremely dangerous Taliban prisoners. The prisoner exchange was timed for maximum political benefit.

From the official Taliban statement:

The Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan has been taking all possible measures since long to get all the Afghan prisoners released whether they are incarcerated inside the country or outside and to let them enjoy a free and peaceful life.

In the future too, the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan is determined to get all the Mujahidin prisoners released as soon as possible. In this regard, we expect all the legal and human rights societies particularly the United Nations to share and accelerate their efforts with Afghan people and the Islamic Emirate on the basis of human sympathy so that all the incarcerated people are freed and their basic legal and human rights are safeguarded and they could lead an independent and peaceful life of their own accord.

Enough "outrage" at the lawless president - "outrage" is not only not enough, it is pitiful in all its faux helplessness and lack of action. If the GOP allows a lawless president to remain president, they are nothing but accomplices.

The reluctance of Hamas’s “military wing”—a misnomer for the more extreme elements of its extremist leadership—to accept the cease-fire designed by Egypt is, well, logical. Let’s admit it. They do not wish to accept defeat, and the Egyptian terms are a defeat for Hamas. By attacking Israel, what has Hamas wrought? Considerable damage was done to Gaza by Israeli air power, and Gazans will be picking up the pieces for months if not longer. But Hamas proved unable to kill one single Israeli with its hundreds of rockets, and all its special tricks—tunnels, longer-range rockets, a drone—also failed. Nor could

As Congress moves closer to the monthlong August recess, the speedy action sends a clear message to Senate Democrats: Take it or leave it. Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio), incoming Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) and a group of top lawmakers working on the border crisis are set to file a bill that very closely mirrors the legislation crafted by Texas lawmakers Sen. Two of the larger social trends of our time — the growth of payday gambling and the legalization of marijuana — have two things in common: They are justified as the expansion of personal liberty, and they serve the interests of an expanding government. The ideological alliance behind these changes is among the strangest in U.S. politics. Libertarians seek to lift governmental restraints on consensual acts. State governments seek sources of revenue without the political inconvenience of requesting broad tax increases. Both find common ground in encouraging and exploiting the weaknesses and addictions of citizens. (And business interests and their lobbyists,

Obama in his own different way is heading towards Nixon-like levels of weirdness, as, beaten down by the failures regarding his ventures, he appears to have quit his own job. A.B. Stoddard of the Hill says in effect he has stopped being president and chooses to live in a world of his own, shutting out the problems that have become overwhelming, giving dinners where he talks
