Gun control, mental health and
blaming inanimate objects

Note: I don’t often speak up about controversial topics. Controversy makes my stomach turn. I’m not one of the people who pull energy from controversy. It makes me turn off comments so that readers can’t attack each other. Controversy sometimes makes intelligent, responsible discussion difficult for a lot of folks who are typically very nice people. Please remain respectful if you comment. By all means, have your say but please be respectful to each other. If you absolutely must attack, attack the idea, not people. ~Robin I’m frustrated, disgusted, disappointed and sad. There’s so little talk about mental health and

Comments:
Those for gun control want a cheap, politically convenient way out and still be perceived trying to fix a problem. It is so much easier to limit a law abiding citizens right to arm himself than it is to confront mental illness and resolve to protect society from possibly dangerous people who haven´t committed a crime as of yet. Common sense has the right answer.

There is a reason you do not give a 4 year old a lighter and let him or her play with it alone in your house.

Lack of personal responsibility. It´s never their fault. If you can´t find another person to blame, blame the inanimate objects. Trip over a stone - blame the stone for being in your way.

Look at the headlines. How many "Obama blames ...." for something or other. Google obama blames news - 2,430 hits. From Bush to outdated software, computer glitches ... all the way back to the founding fathers.

Every one wants a perfect world when we live in a fallen world. The problem with gun control is the old cliché ´when guns are outlawed only outlaws will have guns´!

That is the truest of all the words spoken in then entire gun control debate. Laws only target the law abiding. Criminals, of whatever ilk, do what they want and laws do not effect them. The target the easily targeted in places where lay abiding citizens may not be allowed to go. Gun free zones!

Consider this, how many mass murder crimes are committed where you normally find armed people? Gun stores, gun ranges, places where legal gun carriers are found, states that have carry laws. None!

Do not answer Ft. Hood! I lived there as a young man and my father, a highly decorated field grade officer had to tell the Provost Marshall how many guns we had and where they were kept. Military bases are gun free except for the obvious.

My point is this, in a perfect world we wouldn´t have to worry about being approached by someone hell bent on rape, pillage and plunder or idiot gang bangers in general, but until that perfect world begins I will legally carry a firearm for my personal defense and the defense of those around me.

Mental Health.

Blaming inanimate objects, I agree, is folly.

But when you say, Mental Health you open up a whole new ´can of worms´. Who determines Mental Health?

Already the politicians are calling ALL Tea Party members Terrorists, Veterans are on the ´watch list´, conservatives are suspect. There are articles out there telling the Cops that if they see a NRA Hat on the seat of the car they pulled over, the car contains a potential Terrorist.

Tying Mental Health to the acquisition of defensive weapons is a liberals path to gun confiscation. To them, you cannot be mentally healthy if you feel the need to purchase a gun - for whatever reason.

It´s like passing universal health care for everyone and hiring 11,000 new IRS agents - but not one doctor.

It is becoming apparent that the problem our society faces is a combination of poor or outsourced parenting, the over sensitization of our children in the schools, sham therapy, and the over prescription of psychotropic drugs!!! The culprit in the killing spree that took place in California last week had been in therapy for over 14 years, and chances are was being fed a steady diet of SSRI drugs (Selective Serotonin Re-Uptake Inhibitors) which can cause psychotic episodes!!!

The Federal Election Commission (FEC) has asked a pro-Thad Cochran Super PAC, called Mississippi Conservatives, to provide additional information about what the newspaper Roll Call said “appears to be campaign finance violations.” At issue are last-minute expenditures made by the PAC in the days before the initial June 3 primary. The FEC “Request for Additional Information” says the PAC does not appear to have disclosed some of its spending in a timely manner. The FEC notes in the letter sent to treasurer Brian Perry that failure to “adequately respond” by Aug. 1 “could result in an audit or enforcement action.”

Reverend Steve Fielder, a pastor at the First Union Missionary Baptist Church in Meridian, Mississippi, is accusing Senator Thad Cochran´s campaign of violating election laws by giving black Democratic voters cash in exchange for votes in the recent GOP runoff. But mainstream media seem uninterested in the story. The only outlet outside of conservative media covering the story is Forbes magazine. On July 1, the magazine explained what the penalties might be if Fielder´s allegations prove true. Conservative election integrity organization True The Vote filed suit in federal court Tuesday against Mississippi’s Secretary of State Delbert Hosemann and the Mississippi Republican Party, asking a judge for an immediate injunction against them so that the election material from the state’s June 24 GOP primary runoff can be inspected. The lawsuit comes as allegations that Sen. Thad Cochran’s (R-MS) campaign and his allies engaged in voter fraud to win last Tuesday’s runoff against conservative state Sen. Chris McDaniel. Cochran bested McDaniel by fewer than 7,000 votes but did so with an overwhelming turnout from liberal Democrats in the black

The House is no longer requiring lawmakers to report some free trips they take on the annual forms they file about their personal finances. The change was not publicly announced but was described in an instruction book available to lawmakers on how to fill out the forms. Legislators will still have to report details about their travel on the House clerk´s website, which is less commonly monitored by reporters, watchdog groups and others than the financial disclosure reports. That information is publicly available and is far more specific than the one line that -- until now -- they have provided on their

Reverend Steve Fielder, a pastor at the First Union Missionary Baptist Church in Meridian, Mississippi, has accused Mississippi Senator Thad Cochran’s campaign of engaging in an illegal and criminal campaign scheme to purchase the votes of black community members. The suspect votes were cast during Cochran’s successful effort to defeat Tea Party challenger Chris McDaniel in the Mississippi Republican primary run-off held last week. The speaker announced yesterday that he will ask the House to initiate a lawsuit against the president over his refusal to enforce the laws Congress has passed. That’s something the Wall Street Journal and George Will have both suggested, and it’s not a crazy idea. First, the House likely has standing to bring an action. In 1990 a federal court held that a group of congressmen could not bring an action over George H.W. Bush’s failure to comply with the 1974 War Powers Resolution, but left open whether the House as

President Obama has, except on fleeting occasions, routinely disdained the customary Oval Office language of compromise and coalition-building for the low arts of sophistry and belittlement. That was to be expected, given his background as a Chicago community organizer and product of that city´s corrupt Democrat political machine. But Obama has far exceeded dismal expectations. No previous American president employed the systematic distortion of fact and mendacious characterization of opponents that have typified Obama´s presidency. His "so sue me" speech last week is a classic illustration of the community organizer practicing Saul Alinsky´s 13th rule: “Pick the target, freeze it, personalize

June’s job numbers marked the fifth straight month of job gains over 200,000, the best stretch since the 1990s tech boom. A Bloomberg survey of economists expected an increase of 215,000 jobs in June. The unemployment rate dropped .2 percent to 6.1, the lowest since September 2008. However, as with most economic reports these days, there is a veneer of good news — but when you look closer, the White House is using the positive headlines to hide the growing deterioration of the American workforce.
