Report shows $6.7 billion in

WASHINGTON — Medicare paid out $6.7 billion in 2010 for health care visits that were improperly coded or lacked documentation, a report released Thursday found. That´s 21% of Medicare´s total budget for diagnostic and assessment visits, according to the Department of Health and Human Services inspector general. They found that 42% of diagnostic and assessment claims were improperly coded and 19% were improperly documented. This comes after a 2010 report found that 1,669 physicians consistently billed for the two highest-paying codes. In the new report, 56% of claims for those high-coding physicians physicians were incorrect, with 99% being up-coded in the

Think what it will be when we are all under a government run health system- the incompetence of the VA combined with the rampant fraud of Medicare.

Motivation... The VA figured out how to game the "meet your wait time targes and get a bonus" and, doctors figured out how to get a reasonable fee for their services. CMS must figure that a bare bones fee schedule is a way to save money when it is actually a framework for gaming the system.

Oh yes, let´s for sure get outraged about those disgusting elders ripping off the system with alleged phony Medicare claims. Let´s keep focussed on those pesky seniors so we don´t think about improper disability or Medicaid payments.
The other day in San Diego I watched as a seriously obese man on a scooter tried to steer up the ramp and onto the bus. He kept getting caught and apparently it´s not the driver´s job to help. In frustration, the oh-so-disabled man HOPPED off his scooter, LIFTED it up, turned it and proceeded to CARRY that heavy thing ½ way down the bus aisle! My fellow passengers were in disbelief, all shaking their heads in disgust. He couldn´t have cared less, this overweight reeking 30 year old. Not Medicare, though, so I guess that´s OK.

#3, its not the seniors who are ripping off the taxpayers, for the most part. It´s diploma mill doctors who see some poor schmuck for five minutes, writes a prescription for Viagra and Lipitor and then bills medicare for an extended office visit, huge round of lab tests and a couple MRI´s and CAT scans that never happened.

The old guy thinks he´s getting care when in reality he´s just a cash cow, he may well be getting hurt since the Dr. isn´t treating him, just using his Medicare number. Some get in on the scam but most are just either gullible, naive or addled. There´s a reason why these clinics get set up in run down neighborhoods to service a clientele that can´t afford a lawyer, and not in the Tony suburbs.

As for Medicaid and SSI abuse, nowhere have I ever seen it suggested that we can´t go after them as well, its not an either or situation. It´s basically the same scam anyway and a lot of the medicare mills are ripping off Medicaid and SSI in exactly the same way.

# 3 If he has been disabled for two years, that young man is on Medicare, and his scooter was paid for by Medicare, just like the one that one of my former friends got, who BTW could take that scooter and pick it up and hoist it in the trunk.

Today I had the dumbest office visit ever. The NP scheduled me for a ´physical´ She checked the same thing as last week when I was sick and the time before that. Well, except I was not allowed to ask questions or complain about any problems because the insurance company would not pay her office.
But, more insulting than that, the insurer went into my doctor´s office and audited my file. I have no right to know who they are or their qualifications or if they have a criminal record.

If you notice, nobody receives a basic level one visit today. One specialist would talk and talk and bill for a level five visit. He only checked me once. He never ordered a test and wrote a couple of scripts.

Can´t fool those college guys or their attorneys.

Wake County looks at future of

Wake County’s magnet schools have earned national recognition during the past 32 years, but have reached a crossroads as they face tougher competition for students from inside and outside of the school district. Magnet applications have dropped 42 percent since 2007 even as enrollment in North Carolina’s largest school district has increased by 14 percent. But with nearly 2,600 applicants a year still being turned down, some Wake County school leaders say more magnet schools are needed to keep up with growth, give additional options to families and promote diverse school enrollments. “The capacity in our magnet system has not

Joni Ernst, the Republican Senate candidate from Iowa, is getting a boost from GOP super PAC American Crossroads. A new TV ad from the group contrasts Ernst´s background as "a mother and a soldier" with that of her opponent, Democratic congressman Bruce Braley. "Bruce Braley, trial lawyer and Washington politician, supports Obamacare and caught putting down Chuck Grassley to an out-of-state crowd," says the voiceover. Included in a clip of Braley criticizing Grassley, the Iowa Republican, as a "farmer who never went to law school." "She´ll never look down on farmers, because Ernst is true Iowa," the voiceover concludes.

For the past couple of weeks, Karen Lewis has been saying she is “seriously” considering running for mayor. It turns out voters are taking the fiery Chicago Teachers Union president’s potential candidacy seriously as well. And Mayor Rahm Emanuel probably should, too. At least that’s what a surprising new Early & Often Poll suggests. If the mayoral election were held today, the lightning rod union leader who was the architect behind a 2012 teachers’ strike would beat Emanuel by 9 percentage points in a head-to-head contest, the survey found. Lewis was leading Emanuel 45 percent to 36 percent with 18

The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) is looking to overhaul the Emergency Alert System so the president can speak to the country at the flip of a switch in the event of a nationwide emergency. The national Emergency Alert System broadcasts television alert messages to warn people about immediate dangers. The system is often used at the local level to warn people about weather conditions such as tornadoes or flash floods. But the Emergency Alert System is not capable of reaching the entire country all at once should the president need to warn the public of something like a terrorist attack
