Inspector General Confirms Vets
Waited 115 Days for Care in Phoenix

At least 1,700 veterans were kept off of waiting lists at the Phoenix Healthcare System, a preliminary report from the Veterans Affairs Department´s inspector general confirmed Wednesday. "While our work is not complete, we have substantiated that significant delays in access to care negatively impacted the quality of care at [the Phoenix] medical facility," acting Inspector General Robert Griffin wrote in the new report. And the issues there are not unique. "We are finding that inappropriate scheduling practices are a systemic problem nationwide," he wrote. Using a sample of 226 veterans at the Phoenix facilities, Griffin´s team found that veterans waited 115

Of course the coward Obama didn´t utter a word about this at his West Point speech, but he did bring up climate change and the need for the military to address that. Un.be.lievable.

"inappropriate scheduling practices"? The IG appears to be an expert in bureaucratic doublespeak. If he had not already found this, he is also either corrupt or incompetent and should also be terminated... with no waiting period.

WASHINGTON — Taking aim at the Boy Scouts of America´s continuing ban on gay adult leaders, Attorney General Eric Holder said Tuesday that the prohibition perpetuates "the worst kind of stereotypes.´´ "It´s a relic of an age of prejudice and insufficient understanding,´´ the attorney general said Tuesday evening to Lambda Legal, an advocacy group for LGBT rights. Referring to the group´s work a decade ago to challenge the termination of a gay assistant scoutmaster, Holder said that "too many organizations, policies and practices that discriminate against LGBT individuals remain persistent concerns.´´ "Unfortunately, the continuation of a policy that discriminates against gay adult leaders

The Department of Health and Human Services will spent an estimated $1.15 billion this year caring for minors in its Undocumented Alien Children (UAC) program, and Senate Democrats said Tuesday that they want to add an additional $1 billion for 2015. The program, part of the agency´s Office of Refugee Resettlement, is responsible for the health and welfare of children who cross the U.S. border illegally and arrive without parents. An unprecedented flood of such children has arrived in recent weeks, with leaked photos showing overcrowded holding facilities run by the Immigration and Customs Enforcement division of the Department of

The Associated Press has called the race for David Brat. (This has been a breaking news update. Earlier story below.) Economist David Brat leads House Majority Leader Eric Cantor, R-7th, by more than 6,000 votes with 175 of 243 precincts reporting, according to the Virginia State Board of Elections. Brat, a Henrico resident and economist at Randolph-Macon College, has 27,372 votes to Cantor´s 21,097. The stormy Republican primary in the 7th District has exposed discontent among Republican Party activists and has drawn national attention. Immigration reform drew much debate during the contest that played out in voters’ mailboxes

President Barack Obama Tuesday suggested that the U.S. government should follow Australia’s example in dealing with shooting sprees, which involved strict gun bans on semiautomatic and automatic weapons. “Australia had a mass shooting [in 1996] similar to Columbine and Newtown, and just said, ‘That’s it, we’re not seeing that again,’ and basically imposed very severe tough gun laws and they haven’t had a mass shooting since,” Obama said, after he was asked for his reaction to recent shooting episodes in California and Oregon. Those laws included the confiscation of nearly all handguns and rifles. “We can have respect

WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Immigration was not on the June legislative agenda released by Majority Leader Eric Cantor. It was only fleetingly discussed at a closed-door conference meeting this morning. And many lawmakers are being kept in the dark about an effort led by three House Republicans to gather support to bring the issue to the floor in coming weeks. But in quiet conversations, the group – comprising Reps. Paul Ryan (R-WI), Mario Diaz-Balart (R-FL) and Mick Mulvaney (R-SC) – is asking House Republicans one question: “do you want to do immigration reform now, later, or never?” “It´s nothing in detail,” said a

Did the detainees in Guantanamo Bay know about the transfer of five senior Taliban commanders before members of Congress? Sources with knowledge of the transfer tell THE WEEKLY STANDARD that prisoners at Guantanamo understood in the days before the transfer that something significant was imminent and may well have known who was being transferred. The security profile at Guantanamo had been raised, these sources say, and the daily routines of several prisoners had been broken up. Ramzi Kassem, a law professor at the City University of New York who has represented detainees, told the Associated Press that the coming transfer was

Pearl Harbor, D-Day, the Kennedy assassination, the first moonwalk, and September 11, 2001. These are dates any American with even a rudimentary understanding of American history knows. You can graduate from a public school and still know those dates. Unfortunately, the Google-challenged geniuses President Obama put in charge of his Twitter account (and identity-politics´ propaganda) do not know at least one of these dates. The first moon walk did not happen in 1963, it happened in 1969 -- July 20, 1969. This is the Twitter account of the President of the United States. The President.

Retailers are starting to push a new trend in menswear: the short suit. The ensemble looks like a regular suit from the waist up, with a sport coat over a button-down shirt and sometimes a tie or bowtie. Instead of trousers, however, the suit´s bottoms are cropped at the knee. J. Crew, Topman, Asos, and Barneys are among the retailers selling the short suit this season. They may be taking cues from fashion icon Pharrell Williams, who donned tuxedo shorts to the Academy Awards earlier this year.
