Southern California City May Drop
Lawsuit Against Sriracha Sauce Maker

KNBC [Los Angeles], by William Avila and Ryan Bourgard

Original Article

Posted By:SoCalGal, 5/28/2014 8:56:03 AM

The mayor of Irwindale said he will ask the City Council to drop the public-nuisance order and lawsuit against the maker of Sriracha hot sauce, possibly bringing the months-long conflict to an end.The move comes after members of Gov. Jerry Brown´s office visited the sauce factory. Mayor Mark Breceda said he met behind closed doors with Huy Fong Foods CEO David Tran and two of the governor’s representatives Tuesday morning.Breceda said they came to a verbal agreement that he and the City Council will check in with the company when the grinding season begins, which is about mid-July to August.

Comments:
In another local article, the mayor said he was sorry that this had gone on so long. The first and primary complainant was the son of an Irwindale city councilman. Ortiz. And a too great percentage of the complaints came from only four persons.
This little armpit burg should be happy to have such a big company in its city. It wooed Huy Fong (Tran) to come there in the first place. It was only after he stopped making "contributions" to the city that this kerfuffle began. Something in Irwindale smells really bad and it isn´t the Sriracha chilis.

Interesting data from another recent article:

IRWINDALE >> Of the 61 complaints made to the air quality board about smells coming from the Sriracha hot-sauce factory since October, investigators traced the smell to the Huy Fong Foods factory just four times, twice after the chili grinding season ended.

Data requested by this news organization and released by the South Coast Air Quality Management District showed the date, time, whether there was a field investigation, if the odor was confirmed with the person who complained and whether or not the odor was traced to Huy Fong Foods.

http://www.pasadenastarnews.com/environment-and-nature/20140312/sriracha-smell-traced-back-to-irwindale-factory-4-times-in-61-complaints

Two of the four complaints were clocked on the same date - November 8, 2013, within twenty minutes of each other. The other two were a month or so apart.

41 of 61 complaints came from only 4 households. Serious piling on going on here.

There appears to have been a concerted effort by a person or persons to shut this company down - or to at least cause it a lot of grief.

Apparently in Cubafornia these days, all you have to do is drop a hint that you are considering moving your business to Texas, and Gov. Moonbeam sends his staff to meet with you and pressures the local government to "play nice" with you.

Well ... Texas has plenty of land available cheap for factories and some good chile growing regions down by the border. Always room for a few more productive Texians.
Funny footnote -- in the laste 1960´s I lived in northern Calif in a town called Vacaville, famous at the time as the "onion capitol of America." Big onion processing plant on the south side of town, which was ok most of the time since the wind generally blew from the NW. BUT .. when it blew from the south the whole town smelled like chopped onions.
Back then nobody went sniveling to the government. You just accepted that if you moved into a town built on onions it was going to smell like onions at times.

CEO of Sriracha is from Vietnam.
The Vietnamese are usually conservative and Republican in California.
He said the harassment was reminding him of Vietnam!
Councilman Ortiz son is the source of most of these complaints.
Brown doesn´t want to see another employer leave.
Siracha also grows its special chiles nearby for better flavor.
What is Cr. Ortiz and his son real objective?
Shakedown? Competitor? That is the real story - the abuse by government officials on a private business.

MARIETTA, Georgia — A Georgia man who police say intentionally killed his toddler son by leaving the boy inside a hot SUV was exchanging nude photos with women the day his son died and had looked at websites that advocated against having children, a detective testified Thursday. Cobb County Police Detective Phil Stoddard testified at a hearing that evidence showed Justin Ross Harris was practically leading a double life and should not be granted bond. Stoddard described the evidence police have suggesting Harris, who is charged with murder, killed his 22-month-old son Cooper intentionally. Harris and his wife had two

When Washington imposed sanctions in June 2012 on Boko Haram leader Abubakar Shekau, he dismissed it as an empty gesture. Two years later, Shekau’s skepticism appears well founded: his Islamic militant group is now the biggest security threat to Africa´s top oil producer, is richer than ever, more violent and its abductions of women and children continue with impunity. As the United States, Nigeria and others struggle to track and choke off its funding, Reuters interviews with more than a dozen current and former U.S. officials who closely follow Boko Haram provide the most complete picture to date of how the group

BEIJING-Nearly 800,000 people voted in a nonbinding Hong Kong referendum aimed at agitating for greater democracy, organizers said early Monday, and the semi-autonomous Chinese city was bracing for hundreds of thousands of people to march through the streets Tuesday to continue pressing their cause. The 10-day vote in the former British territory -- conducted online, via mobile phones and in person -- asked residents to cast ballots for one of three mechanisms for directly electing the city’s chief executive. About 787,000 people -- more than 10% of the city’s population -- participated, organizers said. Mainland authorities have denounced the balloting as

One of the last Christian strongholds in Iraq came under attack this week, and its last remaining citizens are making a desperate plea to the United States for help. Until this week, Qaraqosh was a town where Christians from other parts of Iraq could find refuge. But late Wednesday night, ISIS rebels started shelling Qaraqosh, provoking a mass exodus on Thursday. According to various reports, anywhere from 10,000 to 50,000 citizens have fled. The Syrian Catholic Archbishop of Mosul, Yohanna Petros Mouche, has remained behind with around 1,000 of the town’s inhabitants who do not have cars or other means

Amid heavy security, he was taken to a federal courthouse blocks from the U.S. Capitol, the official said. As armed U.S. marshals patrolled outside, the unshackled Khatallah stood impassively as his court-appointed lawyer, Michelle Peterson, entered a not-guilty plea. He

As tens of thousands of uniformed men marched past, loudspeakers proclaimed how they would defend Iraq from the Sunni jihadists rampaging through the country’s north. President Obama’s displeasure with gridlock in Washington — and with the Republicans he blames for it — has been rising for months. This week it has boiled over. From the Rose Garden to the Cabinet Room to near the Key Bridge in Georgetown, the president has signaled more than mere annoyance at the state of affairs at the halfway point of this year. His disdain for congressional Republicans has steadily increased; his disrespect for their tactics has hardened into contempt.
