Doctor reveals the VA
Hospitals´ real problem

American Thinker, by Thomas Lifson

Original Article

America is having what President Obama called a “teachable moment” on single-payer health care, the goal toward which Obamacare is but the first step. Doctor Hal Scherz has written an op-ed in the Wall Street Journal today in which he lays out the real problem with the VA single-payer health care system, and offers hair raising examples, naming names. This is a brave thing for a doctor to do. In his words: The VA health-care system is run by a centrally controlled federal bureaucracy. Ultimately, that is the source of the poor care veterans receive. Bureaucracies that don’t face real competitive discipline

People who can’t be fired and who know that no matter what they do their organization will continue to exist inevitably become self-serving. This is the moral hazard of government funded bureaucracies.

Democrats want to do to all Americans what has been done to our Vets in the VA hospitals, and so far, they´re getting their wish.

The government cannot run anything well except perhaps the military (under far stronger leadership and fewer rules of engagement than they now have).

A friend of ours died in a VA hospital. Over the years of his various heart problems, he told us that every time he went for a checkup or treatment, there was a different doctor there who had no familiarity with his case. It drove him mad. He also said waiting times for his various surgeries or treatments were months, not weeks.

He said no one there seemed to coordinate with anyone else. They just threw paperwork at whatever doctor was sent in to examine him.

I think this gov´t-run single-payer VA hospital killed him sooner than his heart would have.

This is an excellent article along with the one it quotes by the doctor. Now we need a GOP which has the guts to make this point continually until the lofo´s understand it and never elect the likes of Obama again. His kind do not want to understand this because they are the parasites getting a free ride on the government. They do not regard it as waste but as the most important government expenditures because it is flowing into their pockets, making them more wealthy than the people they despise who actually pay the bills and earn their living.

I am a former Army Nurse and saw how this worked for the Active Duty soldier, which wasn´t that different. I remember how proud the leadership was that the ANC and my hospital, MAMC, was at 100% authorized strength. Problem was that number was about 70% of needed strength as the numerous studies we had to do showed. It was "easy" to solve this shortage by making the AD nurses work extra, since you´d have to pay the civilian nurses overtime. Those who were away from patient care were very concerned about making their numbers look good rather than looking out for the patient. What is really depressing is that civilian hospitals aren´t that much different. At least Army nurses got more respect and had better working relationships with the doctors than I experienced on the civilian side.

In April, President Obama told the nation that “marketplace” or “exchange” enrollment, at 8 million customers as of March 31, had exceeded expectations and costs were lower than expected. Many in the news media accepted the selectively released statistics, despite the Obama administration’s record of sometimes providing inaccurate or incomplete information on HealthCare.gov. Even today, the government continues to withhold relevant public information on costs and enrollment requested by Congress and the press under the Freedom of Information Act. In fact, the measure of the Affordable Care Act’s success rests neither with individual anecdotes nor in the Obama administration’s self-assessments.

Perhaps no issue better illustrates the current divide between everyday citizens and our political and business elites than the issue of immigration. The latter group draws the financial gains from a generous labor supply without considering the perspective of those on the other side of the ledger: the working people who have to worry about being laid off and replaced with lower-wage workers, about the strain placed on their local hospitals and neighborhood resources, or about cartel violence spilling across the border into their own communities.

Not much is certain in life, but here are two things you can take to the bank. If you want a child to learn to read, phonics is the way that works. Second, you can be sure that our Education Establishment will try to keep phonics at a minimum and force children to memorize the English language one sight-word at a time. Where reading is concerned, the nonsense never stops. In his famous 1955 book Why Johnny Can’t Read, Rudolf Flesch said he looked at all the research. There were 11 studies from 1913 to 1948; in all of them, phonics was

His disdain for congressional Republicans has steadily increased; his disrespect for their tactics has hardened into contempt.
