Hundreds of British troops are set to be sent to Nigeria to help local forces in their war with Al Qaeda-linked terrorists holding nearly 300 schoolgirls hostage. Details of the planned deployment emerged as Nigerian officials claimed they now know where the girls are being held but warned any rescue attempt could lead to them being killed by the fanatical Islamist Boko Haram. Air Marshal Alex Badeh, Nigeria´s Chief of Defence Staff, said : ´The good news for the parents of the girls is that we know where they are…but where they are held, can we go there with force? We can´t

House Speaker John Boehner´s lawsuit against him is just a ´stunt,´ President Barack Obama told ABC News anchor George Stephanopolous on Thursday. Obama said he´d already talked to the GOP legislator and that he told him,‘ "If you’re really concerned about me taking too many executive actions, why don’t you try getting something done through Congress?" ´ ´You´re going to squawk if I try to fix some parts of it administratively that are within my authority while you´re not doing anything?´ Obama said, referring to House Republicans. Nevada university student leaders demand Hillary

Two student leaders at the University of Las Vegas have called on Hillary Clinton to return the $225,000 speaking fee she is expected to receive for delivering a keynote address at an upcoming event. UNLV student body president Elias Benjelloun and the student government’s public relations director Daniel Waqar appeared on a local talk show Friday, condemning UNLV´s foundation for paying Clinton an ´outrageous´ sum of money for speaking at a fundraiser in October. ‘We really appreciate anybody who would come to raise money for the university. But anybody who´s being paid $225,000 to come speak, we think that´s a

Actress Amy Adams traded her first class seat on a Detroit to Los Angeles flight with a soldier who had been booked in coach. Adams reportedly noticed the American serviceman at the gate and quietly asked to switch seats with him. The five-time Academy Award nominee has often spoke glowingly of her father´s time in the military and of growing up on bases in both Italy and U.S. She then had a brief chat with the soldier near the cockpit and scurried to her seat in coach before many people noticed what had happened, according to ESPN host Jemele Hill, who witnessed the switch. David Cameron is the only

From the start, David Cameron has loathed European summits. [Snip] Take, for example, today’s summit to decide the next president of the European Commission. Cameron knows that most of his counterparts regard Jean-Claude Juncker as a fairly useless, wine-soaked uber-federalist. But yesterday, they were all (with the possible exception of Hungary) set to vote him in as president--all except Britain, which is the only country to denounce the whole scam. If this is the way the system works, Cameron says, he wants a new system. There is an element of Mr Smith Goes to Washington about all of this. Cameron

David Cameron faces a looming and crushing defeat over Jean-Claude Juncker because he fatally embraced Angela Merkel, a woman known in German politics as the black widow. [Snip] If Mr Cameron made one mistake in his campaign to stop creeping “political union” by stopping the European Parliament from transforming the commission into a crypto “government”, with a president chosen by MEPs after EU elections, it was the naivety of trusting Chancellor Merkel. He should have known better. In Germany she has been compared to a black widow or praying mantis for killing her partners in German coalition politics after using

He said: “Everything has consequences in life.” As the bitter feud deepened, it emerged that EU leaders are set to back Luxembourg’s former prime minister despite concerns about his alcohol consumption. Mr Cameron is expected to be overwhelmingly defeated and possibly isolated in a vote over the appointment today. Only Hungary’s premier Viktor

It is popularly imagined that the size of the British state has shrunk dramatically since the socialist Seventies, but figures released by the Office for National Statistics suggest otherwise. In 1977, some 40.7 percent of households received more in benefits (including in-kind benefits such as health and education) than they paid in taxes. That proportion has now risen to 52 percent. It hit a peak in the middle of the recession of 53.5 percent and has fallen slightly. But even with that small decline, most people would be surprised--if not shocked--to discover that a majority of Britons now take out

The former sexting pol has been noticeably absent at recent public events attended by Abedin, including the Gordon Parks Foundation Awards Dinner in Manhattan earlier this month. President Obama is now reaching terminal velocity, like a skydiver plunging toward earth. Except he doesn’t have a parachute. There’s a mighty splat coming soon. With his approval rating at 40 percent, down 6 points from early June, and just 29 percent of Americans convinced the country is on the “right track,” the president is doubling down on his strategy of blaming Republicans for his failures. And he’s shifting into hyperpartisan drive, traveling the country to campaign for Democrats, many of whom wish he’d just stay away. Worse, the news just keeps getting well, worse: The Veterans Affairs scandal is blazing, with

Lois Lerner, the controversial director of the tax-exempt organizations division at the Internal Revenue Service, has a long sordid history of targeting conservatives. Under the direction of Lois Lerner, the Federal Election Commission sued the Christian Coalition in the 1990s. She harassed the Christian Coalition for three election cycles. Eventually, she lost her case. At one point Lerner even asked a targeted conservative if Pat Robertson prayed over him. (Sound familiar?) Ordinarily, President Obama’s days are planned out to the smallest detail. But for his two-day excursion to Minnesota this week, the president boasted that he’s got little in the way of a formal agenda, has few firm plans, and warned Secret Service that he’s feeling “super loose” and could end up doing any number of things. “I don’t know. Republicans are in the strongest position to win back the Senate since losing it eight years ago. Over several months, the party has expanded its range of targeted seats, and the National Republican Senatorial Committee (NRSC) has helped defeat insurgents it didn’t want representing the GOP in the midterm elections. This sober realization came to Democrats on Wednesday, as Tuesday night’s primary results showed they cannot count on Tea Party candidates upsetting more-electable incumbents. And Democrats are increasingly realizing that President Obama’s approval rating will probably remain mired at 45 percent or lower until

It was the elephant on the back of the elephant in the middle of the room. In a recent interview with Rusty Humphries, Maricopa County, Arizona Sheriff Joe Arpaio made news by saying that the Obama administration was “incompetent” and that its current dumping of illegals in Arizona is intentional. A shocking new report from the Center for Immigration Studies claims to prove that every single new job created in America for the last fourteen years has gone to immigrants, legal and illegal. This would fly in the face of those who claim that immigration is an economic boon to native born Americans: The CIS report found that over the last 14 years, people who were born in the United States held 114.8 million jobs in 2000, and held 114.7 million jobs in 2014, a drop of 127,000. But it’s an entirely different picture for immigrants — 5.7 million more
