Swiss group to allow assisted dying
for elderly who are not terminally ill

Guardian (UK), by Maddy French

Original Article

Posted By:jackson, 5/27/2014 10:17:32 AM

A Swiss organisation that helps people take their own lives has voted to extend its services to elderly people who are not terminally ill. Exit added "suicide due to old age" to their statutes at an annual general meeting held over the weekend, allowing people suffering from psychological or physical problems associated with old age the choice to end their life. Assisted dying is legal in Switzerland and technically even a healthy young person could use such services. However, organisations involved in this work set their own internal requirements, which differ from group to group.

Comments:
"Assisted dying" - the sickest euphemism yet. Gosh, if only Hitler thought of this compassionate way to assist the useless and undesirable. Perhaps Jay Carney can work this "assistance" in today´s VA talking points. You know, Obama´s way of showing compassion to ailing Vets.

Medically assisted suicide on demand ... a dire prediction violently dismissed by euthanasia-rights advocates when these ´evolved´ countries debated whether to allow the terminally ill to receive professional help to end their lives.

This ´slippery slope´ dance pattern is sickeningly tedious as the extreme Left push to further liberalize western society. Soon we will see the envelope pushed from allowing late-term abortion, to permitting early-life infanticide, as the culture of death spreads.

#1, get a grip. The issue is not people deciding when to die. It´s creepy organizations helping and assisting you to die. How easy it is to simply make that decision for someone "inconvenient" and claim that this is what they want.

Sick is right.

soon to be followed by a mass media campaign, with parallel efforts in the schools, on the wonderfulness of a "duty to die". Limited resources, and Global Warming, and "it´s for the children" will all be invoked.

#5, yes, and with freedom comes laws and regulations. Without those, the weak and feeble are at the mercy of those who would love to legally kill them for money.

For every poor man who wants to put his wife out of her suffering from incurable pain, there are thousands of evil people that would love to step in and help someone die who might not really want that. That´s murder.

That´s the problem with you libertarians--your ideas sound good on paper but don´t work. Killing someone for money isn´t freedom, it´s the worst kind of impression imaginable.

News is surprise. The news out of Hillary Clinton´s book tour is that it hasn´t gone well. It was supposed to establish her iconic position in American political life while solidifying her inevitability. Instead it exposed vulnerabilities. The media was neither at her feet nor at her throat but largely distanced, which was interesting. Her claim that the Clintons were "dead broke" when they left the White House inspired widespread derision. Her exchanges on Benghazi didn´t bury the issue but kept it alive. The scripted answers were tiring. The old trick of answering the question you wish you´d been asked instead

The White House announced Thursday that it will impose further penalties against Uganda after its president signed a law that toughens punishments against gays and defines some homosexual acts as crimes punishable by life in prison. The admnistration will prevent Ugandan officials involved in serious human rights abuses, including against LGBT individuals, into the United States; discontinue or redirect money for certain programs involving the Ugandan Police Force, Ministry of Health and National Public Health Institute; and cancel plans to hold a U.S. military-sponsored aviation exercise in Uganda

Chelsea Clinton earned an annual salary of $600,000 at NBC News before switching to a month-to-month contract earlier this year, sources with knowledge of the agreement told POLITICO. Clinton, who joined NBC News as a “special correspondent” in November 2011, was up for renewal or non-renewal this year. Instead, the sources said, the network decided to keep her on the payroll on a month-to-month basis so that the two parties could sever ties if Clinton’s mother, Hillary, runs for president. Kamyl Bazbaz, a spokesperson for the 34-year-old Clinton, referred POLITICO to NBC News, which declined to discuss Clinton’s contract. “We don’t comment

The Veterans Administration scandal involves charges of manipulation and falsification of medical waiting lists and systemwide rigging to hide delayed or inadequate treatment, which may have caused the deaths of some of those waiting for care. There are whistle-blowers, allegations of local coverups, and the possibility of criminal charges. Also becoming clearer are two motives for those involved in what appears to have been a racket: their compensation and their career trajectories. This scandal won´t go away as others have, because all America is united in this thought: We care about our military veterans. We´ve asked a great deal of them,

In “The Case for Reparations,” the long-brewing cover story of the June issue of the Atlantic, Ta-Nehisi Coates makes a painstaking argument that the gap in wealth, achievement, and a wide range of health and wellbeing outcomes between black and white Americans is the result of deliberate policy decisions. Those decisions, he says, lead to an inevitable conclusion: “An America that asks what it owes its most vulnerable citizens is improved and humane. An America that looks away is ignoring not just the sins of the past but the sins of the present and the certain sins of the future,”

Conservative author Dinesh D’Souza pleaded guilty to breaking campaign finance laws. He was accused of having urged two friends to make $10,000 contributions to a Senate candidate and then reimbursing them. This is an illegal work-around of campaign contribution limits. He won’t be sentenced until Sept. 23 but faces 16 months in prison and a $30,000 fine. So a guy does something wrong and pleads guilty. What’s the big deal? Well, there’s the ridiculosity (that’s a word, right?) of such campaign finance laws and the pretty serious looming sentence for the crime. Prison. I should probably mention at this point that D’Souza really, really,

The program is a component of Mrs. Obama’s Healthy, Hunger-Free Kids Act of 2010. The new government regulations require snack items served in public schools to have less than two hundred calories. That includes vending machines, lunch rooms and other campus food venues. And that’s really bad news for kids at South Carolina’s Socastee High School. “Trust” is for Con Men: The reaction to the border chaos in Texas has accomplished one thing: It has exploded the lie at the heart of current “comprehensive” immigration reform plans. The basic structure of those plans is a swap of a) near-immediate legalization for b) increased border security in the future. The lie is the assumption that, once current illegals get their legalization, pro-immigrant activists in both parties will continue to support the second half of the bargain, the increased security.
