US foreign policy: Trouble abroad
Financial Times [London], by Geoff Dyer

Original Article

When President Barack Obama ran for re-election in 2012, he pulled off what for Democrats was a remarkable feat – he took foreign policy off the table as a campaign issue. (snip) Eighteen months later, the political ground is shifting rapidly beneath Mr Obama’s feet. As he prepares to give an important address on foreign policy at West Point tomorrow, the president finds himself under attack over what critics charge is a record of indecisive leadership. The loudest voices have been Mr Obama’s political opponents at home, but the critique of a rudderless, risk-adverse president has also found strong echoes

Obama is NOT rudderless: he just enjoys steering in the opposite direction of traditional American values. He is one of the most uninformed, most historically illiterate presidents in our country´s history. The little that he knows is based on radical left ideology, where the US and western civilization are always the oppressor, and Obama is the sword of the oppressed.

Employers Try to Get Seattle to
Reconsider Its $15 Minimum Wage
National Review Online, by Celina Durgin    Original Article

Seattle’s plan to dramatically increase the minimum wage is going to be unsustainable in the long term and is already costing jobs and raising prices, business owners say. Seattle businessmen lead by Forward Seattle, a non-partisan organization representing independent businesses, collected about 19,500 signatures to put a referendum on the city’s minimum wage ordinance on this November’s ballot. Several of the petitioners have said their businesses cannot withstand the ordinance’s schedule for increasing the minimum hourly wage, which will boost it from $9.25 to $15 in as few as three years for the largest employers. Some petitioners had tried unsuccessfully to

Under the cover of darkness, a team from London-based Wildlife S.O.S rescued an elephant that had been abused for 50 years in India and transported it 350 miles to an elephant sanctuary where it walked free for the first time on July 4th. Raju, believed to have been poached from his mother as a baby, was beaten and left bleeding from painful spiked leg shackles by an abusive owner who had the elephant beg for handouts and survive by eating plastic and paper for food. In a video interview with a UK website, Hillary Clinton contradicts her earlier story about how she came to represent a child rapist. Hillary now claims she had no choice in representing the 41-year-old who raped a 6th grader, a story which is at odds with the one she told an interviewer three decades ago. (snip) Whether or not Hillary was assigned the case, part of the problem is her callous treatment of the victim both during the case and years later during the interview. Hillary reportedly went out of her way to question the victim´s reliability. In fact, the

When Vice President Joe Biden’s son, R. Hunter Biden, joined the board of a private Ukrainian oil and natural gas company this spring, he explained his new job as a legal one, disconnected from any effort to influence the Obama Administration. (snip) But the company, Burisma Holdings, did not disclose at the time the scope of their plans for influencing the U.S. government. Recently released documents show that Biden’s hiring coincided with the launch of a new effort to lobby members of Congress about the role of the company in Ukraine and the country’s quest for energy independence.

Since White House Spokesman Jay Carney and most of the media can’t seem to bring themselves to do it, I thought I’d write a transcript for an honest press briefing. Mickey Rooney, the pint-sized actor who was one of MGM’s giant box office attractions in the late ’30s and early ’40s, died on Sunday. He was 93. As adept at comedy as drama and an excellent singer and dancer, Rooney was regarded as the consummate entertainer. During a prolific career on stage and screen that spanned eight decades (“I’ve been working all my life, but it seems longer,” he once said), he was nominated for four Academy Awards and received two special Oscars, the Juvenile Award in 1939 (shared with Deanna Durbin) and one in 1983 for his body of work.

Last week, news broke that a congressional candidate in Gainesville had a secret pastime: impersonating vampires. And superheroes. Some people would call this nutty. In Florida, we just call it Tuesday. Seriously, that´s not even our highest-profile vampire story. Remember the "vampire killings" from Lake County? Some of our stories are heartbreakingly tragic. But so many are also mind-numbingly strange. In Florida, we do weird the way Kansas does wheat. Here, giant pet snakes escape. And breed. And then invade our national parks. We have fish that eat people, alligators that eat people and people who eat people.

Sarah Palin wants to impeach Barack Obama. In an op-ed article published last week, the former Republican vice presidential nominee declared that the crisis on the southern border (where young illegal immigrants are being detained) "is the last straw that makes the battered wife say, ´No, mas´." The Republican Speaker of the House, John Boehner, thinks that´s loco. (Technically, he said, "I disagree".) For Republicans hoping to avoid the kind of drama that might derail what looks to be a very good midterm election year, this kind of call is both a nuisance and a trend. The “ugly American” has gotten a lot uglier over the past few weeks, from the streets of California to the halls of Congress and state houses around the country. A growing number of our fellow Americans have taken on grotesque features, in looks and sounds, in reaction to the thousands of children from Central America who have crossed our borders as they flee poverty and violence in hope for something better. Sadly, the arrival of these youngsters has been greeted by flag-waving, sign-carrying, Bible-thumping and Constitution-quoting citizens demanding that they not be received here and that they be returned immediately to their
