Life Lessons from Navy SEAL Training
Wall Street Journal, by William H. McRaven

Original Article

Posted By:trapper, 5/25/2014 5:05:04 PM

The University of Texas slogan is "What starts here changes the world." I have to admit—I kinda like it. "What starts here changes the world." Tonight there are almost 8,000 students graduating from UT. That great paragon of analytical rigor, Ask.Com, says that the average American will meet 10,000 people in their lifetime. [snip] But if every one of you changed the lives of just 10 people, and each one of those folks changed the lives of another 10 people—just 10—then in five generations, 125 years, the class of 2014 will have changed the lives of 800 million people.

If you haven´t seen this video yet, find it and save it.

The 8,000 graduating University of Texas students will definitely remember the speech of this speaker.

Interesting glitch. I read this in the print edition (dinosaur here) and searched for it online to post it. If you google "Life Lessons From Navy SEAL Training WSJ" and click on the link next to the picture, it takes you right to the complete article. But when you post that url and the try to go to it, it blocks you. Go figure. Find the complete available article as above.

There are serious worries in Texas and beyond over the current flood of illegal immigrants and the diseases they are carrying into the United States. ABC 15 reports from the southern border: U.S. Border Patrol agents are worried that what´s coming over into the U.S. could harm everyone. This time the focus is not on the women and children that are crossing over in droves. Agents are worrying about a viral outbreak. “We are sending people everywhere. The average person doesn´t know what´s going on down here,” said Border Patrol agent and Rio Grande Valley Union representative Chris Cabrera.

New Jersey To Ban .22 Rifles?
Power Line, by John Hinderaker    Original Article

New Jersey’s legislature has enacted a gun control measure that would ban the most common .22 rifles that have been in use for generations. The Truth About Guns, via InstaPundit, has the story: The gun ban that has gone to New Jersey Governor Christie for signature has been described as a “gun magazine restriction“, but it bans numerous common sport and hunting rifles. The ban has no exemption for rifles with fixed magazines, including most common .22 rimfire rifles that are used for sport and small game hunting…and almost never used in crimes.

They Had a Dream

They had a dream. For almost a hundred years now, the famed academic-artistic-and-punditry industrial complex has dreamed of a government run by their kind of people (i.e., nature’s noblemen), whose intelligence, wit, and refined sensibilities would bring us a heaven on earth. Their keen intellects would cut through the clutter as mere mortals’ couldn’t. They would lift up the wretched, oppressed by cruel forces. Above all, they would counter the greed of the merchants, the limited views of the business community, and the ignorance of the conformist and dim middle class.

Although nobody is speaking on the record, it appears as though a veteran science writer and editor at the New York Times has lost his job because he published a book about genetics and sub-Saharan Africans. No topic is more sensitive than genetic questions regarding the anomalous statistical phenomena regarding sub-Saharan Africans, at home and in the diaspora. Chris Reed of the Daily Caller: Nicholas Wade, a British-born science reporter and editor for more than 30 years with The New York Times, is no longer with the newspaper — just days after the release of his latest book, in which

Legendary conservative columnist George Will says he is an atheist. Will explained his religious views — or lack thereof — during an extensive interview with The Daily Caller on politics, culture and his new book, “A Nice Little Place on the North Side: Wrigley Field at One Hundred.” TheDC will be featuring segments from the interview over the next several weeks. “I am not religious at all,” Will interjected, when The Daily Caller said it heard he wasn’t particularly religious. TheDC brought up its previous interview Charles Krauthammer, in which the other conservative Washington Post columnist said, “I don’t believe

Why Westernized Muslims

American Thinker, by Raymond Ibrahim    Original Article

A new Danish statistical study finds that “Muslims [are] 218 percent more criminal in second generation than first.” While some of these crimes are clearly related to Islam – such as attacks on Muslim apostates to Christianity – others, such as rampant theft against non-Muslims, would appear banal, until one realizes that even robbery and plunder are justified by Islamic doctrine – as one U.K. Muslim cleric once clearly said. The interesting question here is why second-generation Muslims, who are presumably more Westernized than their Muslim parents, are also more “radical.”

In 2011 Barack Obama led an allied military intervention in Libya without consulting the US Congress. Last August, after the sarin attack on the Damascus suburb of Ghouta, he was ready to launch an allied air strike, this time to punish the Syrian government for allegedly crossing the ‘red line’ he had set in 2012 on the use of chemical weapons.? Then with less than two days to go before the planned strike, he announced that he would seek congressional approval for the intervention. The strike was postponed as Congress prepared for hearings, and subsequently cancelled when Obama accepted Assad’s

The United States is planning to give up its last remaining authority over the technical management of the Internet. The Commerce Department announced Friday that it will give the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN), an international nonprofit group, control over the database of names and addresses that allows computers around the world to connect to each other. Administration officials say U.S. authority over the Internet address system was always intended to be temporary and that ultimate power should rest with the "global Internet community." But some fear that the Obama administration is opening the door to an

One of the least reported angles to the Crimea story is the plight of Russia´s Tatars - an ethnic group that was forcibly removed from their original home in the Crimea following World War II for supposedly collaborating with the Nazis. Only in the last few years have the Tatars been allowed to return. So you will forgive them for not quite trusting the Russians to keep their word. New Republic: The Crimean Tatars became one of the key strands of the dissident movement. When their activists were jailed, news reached the West by the same channels that kept information about Alexander Solzhenitsyn and

It has become a daily frightening occurrence, hearing politicians, commentators, pundits, and stunned Americans say, “That´s outrageous!” “He can´t do that!” “No way!” “It´s against federal law!” “They have no legal authority to force us to do that!” These comments are in response to the daily unprecedented out-of-control tyranny handed down by Obama and his operatives. President Obama told his Mexican counterpart in a phone call Thursday that immigrants crossing into the U.S. illegally won’t qualify for legalized status or deferred deportation, including children. The White House said Mr. Obama and Mexican President Enrique Peña Nieto discussed “a regional strategy” to address the surge of unaccompanied children coming from Central America, through Mexico, to the U.S. With thousands of children trying to enter the U.S. illegally in recent months, Vice President Joseph R. Biden will visit Guatemala on Friday. Mr. Biden will warn officials and parents that illegal immigration is dangerous and that youth won’t be allowed to stay

Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton continues to tour the nation, promoting her new book, Hard Choices, and a possible 2016 candidacy. Her book tour, filled with gaffes and missteps, has lagged and perhaps failed to live up to expectations. But that´s not all. Her book, when compared to former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin´s political memoir, Going Rogue, has woefully underperformed in sales. And it’s pretty cut and dried. Palin´s book, which was released the same year President Obama moved into the White House, sold approximately 496,000 copies in its first week of release, according to figures cited by the New York Times.
