A distraught father whose son was among the victims killed in a shooting rampage near a California university quaked with grief and rage Saturday as he described his ´lost and broken´ family and the proliferation of guns he believes led to his son´s death. ´Our son Christopher and six others are dead,´ Richard Martinez told reporters gathered outside a sheriff´s station for a news conference the day after the shootings near the University of California, Santa Barbara, where the 20-year-old son was a sophomore. ´You don´t think it´ll happen to your child until it does.´ Christopher Ross Michaels-Martinez, of Los Osos, California was

Yes his son was a victim, but of what? 99.99% of gun owners are responsible and will never be a problem.

How many kids, like this shooter are out there? And what has caused them? Society is not working very well for anyone these days. Put them in therapy, buy them a fancy car and hope the problem goes away. Obviously he had problems for most of his life, but how involved was his family in trying to "help" him. Or did they rely on the "system" to "fix" him? Very sad for everyone involved, but blaming those that are blameless is not effective.

I forgot to add that Mr. Rodger, who as assistant director for the Hunger Games, doesn´t utter a word about the bloody, violent movie that he helped make or take responsibility for it´s impact on the culture. That film was rated PG-13 and was criticized that no one 13 or younger should see it because it was so terribly bloody and disturbing. I wonder if his son thought murder and mayhem acceptable in some way because of that movie. We will never know will we.

I realize that when your heart is broken, you strike out at any one and any thing to blame. You aren´t rational.

But reaching out to government to heal your broken heart is not rational, either.

Reaching out to government is completely rational to people like this. They have no god but the government, and no one else to turn to. Sadly they won´t make any adjustments. You have to wonder if the shooter had seen "Thou Shalt not Kill" in school or the public square or, heaven forbid, a church, it might have caused him to wonder what those words really mean. Had he seen "Thou Shalt not Commit Adultery" he might have been more comfortable with his celibacy until the right girl came along.

The shooter´s parents were divorced but were said to be very worried about him, a report even said the mother asked police to call on her son a few weeks ago, fearing for his mental welfare. The kid kept the legal guns in his apartment although he didn´t use guns to kill 3 men in the apartment, he used a knife. Does the aunt say Obama should ban knives?

I feel for this man - his son was an innocent victim of a mentally-ill sociopath. However, a gun was one of three weapons the perp used - he killed his first three victims with a knife, shot some and lastly used his BMW to run down some people.

If we outlawed everything that had been used to kill people, we wouldn´t have guns, knives, cars, baseball bats, ropes, piano wire, bricks, socks, panty hose, fists, and feet to name merely a few.

I suggest we focus our attention instead on the mentally ill and try to identify and treat or incarcerate them.

More people are killed by illegal immigrants than by people who lawfully own guns. But when this is pointed out, open border people say you can´t blame all illegals for the crimes of some.
But when someone is killed with a lawfully owned guns, suddenly the NRA and all those who own guns legally are evil and their guns must be taken away.

I guess the stabbing victims don´t count. As others have noted, where did he get the money for guns? And he was mentally ill. Didn´t his hear about the Sandy Hook shooter and didn´t it make them wonder if their mentally ill son was capable of something similar? These killings are about mental illness, not guns.

#8 is right on.

I am tired of the irrational knee-jerk reactions of anti-gun idiots.

Why do they insist on blaming the gun, an inanimate object, for the shooting? If you placed gun on a table, how many people would the gun shoot?

If these killings are the fault of the gun, arrest the gun, charge it with a crime and, if convicted, send the gun to gun prison for life (is a gun alive?). See how absurd anti-gun people are? They lack any perspective and cannot form rational arguments.

The grief experienced by families of victims slain by alleged killer Elliot Rodger is horrific; however, mental illness has been acknowledged by Rodger’s family members, so there is no basis for blaming the NRA. Craven/irresponsible politicians exist, but wanting to abolish/regulate the Second Amendment would be craven/irresponsible, and not the answer to the abhorrent bloodshed occurring in our country.

The entertainment industry needs to be considered/regulated for its focus on bloodshed/violence for the sake of profit margins. People with mental illness are inclined to emulate violence when presented as commonplace, laudable, and macho.

Ok the perp had Asperger´s syndrome. Why does he have any kind of weapon then ? If handguns were outlawed, would the stabbing victims still be alive ? Doubtful. If the gun control crowd wants to hypothesize that the shooting victims would be alive today, I could credibly respond that this kid would have stabbed additional victims rather than shot them.

It ain´t the gun that´s the problem. It´s the brain BEHIND the gun.

President Obama’s defiant emphasis on executive action reveals a larger failure looming for his legacy: His inability to work with Republicans means that he’s unlikely to score even one significant legislative achievement over the final years of his presidency. Unless Democrats win back the House and hold onto the Senate in November, a scenario dismissed by most political analysts, Mr. Obama has said goodbye long ago to his biggest accomplishments in Congress. They occurred back in 2010, when Democrats controlled the House and Senate, and Mr. Obama signed into law Obamacare, the Dodd-Frank Wall Street reform act and a two-year extension

The basic structure of those plans is a swap of a) near-immediate legalization for b) increased border security in the future. The appealing idea is to let current illegals stay while taking the steps necessary to prevent further waves. The lie is the assumption that, once current illegals get their legalization, pro-immigrant activists in both parties will continue to support the second half of the bargain, the increased security. Contrary to what those who defend the right to own high-powered assault rifles believe, not all guns are created equal. Due to a combination of availability, portability and criminal usage the following five types of guns are the country's most dangerous. School Shootings: Widely Reported Tragedies Since 2000 - Using firearm trace data from the ATF, as well as FBI homicide records, we determined the types of guns most often recovered from crime scenes and/or used in murders. It had to come sometime, and it came in one very bad week for the Democrats: that the many big problems with Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama finally grew too great for the press to ignore. Obama in his own different way is heading towards Nixon-like levels of weirdness, as, beaten down by the failures regarding his ventures, he appears to have quit his own job. A.B. Stoddard of the Hill says in effect he has stopped being president and chooses to live in a world of his own, shutting out the problems that have become overwhelming, giving dinners where he talks

The headline in the Washington Post on June 4 was clear: Rove-backed American Crossroads won’t get involved in Cochran runoff Said the Post story the day after Tea Party favorite Chris McDaniel had defeated six-term Mississippi GOP Senator Thad Cochran in the first round of the state’s GOP primary: American Crossroads, a GOP establishment organization, has decided to shift its political focus almost entirely to the general election and will not be spending money in the likely runoff election to decide the Mississippi Senate nomination that was virtually deadlocked after Tuesday night. Senate Budget Committee ranking member Sen. Jeff Sessions (R-AL) has warned all of his colleagues in Congress that President Barack Obama’s new immigration strategy—his plans to legalize millions of illegal alien adults through executive power—could destroy America as we know it. “I write to inform you of a development that threatens the foundation of our constitutional Republic,” Sessions, Congress’s top immigration hawk, wrote in a letter that was hand-delivered to all 535 members of Congress on Monday and provided exclusively to Breitbart News. Sessions cites a recent report from the National Journal, in which reporter Major Garrett detailed how, despite the ongoing

Attorney General Eric Holder encouraged Americans not to forget race while working for justice and equality in their country. “As it stands, our society is not yet color blind -- nor should it be -- given the disparities that still afflict and divide us.” Holder explained, “We must be color brave, and we must never forget that all are made better and more prosperous if all are given equal opportunities.” Holder made his remarks during a speech at Howard University on Tuesday for the 50th Anniversary Celebration of the Civil Rights Act. “We must take into account not only the

WASHINGTON — It was an enduring image of his presidency: a chastened Bill Clinton walking his dog while wife Hillary keeps her distance as the family leaves town at the height of the Monica Lewinsky scandal — but it was all part of a contrived public-repentance campaign, according to a new book. With Bill on the skids and his wife’s future prospects on the line, it was necessary for the pubic to see the president being punished, said Weekly Standard online editor Daniel Halper in his new book, “Clinton, Inc.: The Audacious Rebuilding of a Political Machine.” “They understood that

In his message to the “Mexico/Holy See Colloquium on Migration and Development,” Pope Francis characterized the tens of thousands of illegal immigrants that have crossed the U.S. southern border as a product of globalization, suggesting that the phenomenon is happening worldwide. Francis proclaimed, “Despite the large influx of migrants present in all continents and in almost all countries, migration is still seen as an emergency, or as a circumstantial and sporadic fact, while instead it has now become a hallmark of our society and a challenge.” Emmer McCarthy for Vatican Radio said Francis expressed his concern for “the tens of thousands of

President Obama is known for being competitive on the basketball court, but he´s also apparently a cutthroat pool player. Gov. John Hickenlooper, D-Colo., told reporters at the National Governors Association meeting on Sunday that the president surprised him by beat him in two consecutive games. To add insult to injury, the two were playing at the Wynkoop Brewing Company, a bar that Hickenlooper co-founded. "You know I´ll tell ya -- the man is a shark," Hickenlooper told reporters, Time reports. "I was up a few balls. I felt pretty good. I was actually wondering whether how hard should I --
