Prince William to become

Sunday Express [UK], by Owen Bennett

Prince William may be taking to the skies once more--but this time as an air ambulance pilot. The future king, who is an accomplished pilot, stepped down from the RAF´s search-and-rescue team last year but it is believed he is not keen on taking up royal duties on a full-time basis. The East Anglian Air Ambulance service, located near his country home at Anmer Hall in Sandringham, is the likely destination for Prince William. According the Sunday Times, a royal aide said: "The duke is fully committed to his foundation and charities, but he feels he has not yet got

It sounds a bit more than a hobby to me; it sounds as if he´s fulfilling a very necessary function.

I have no doubt that the Price is "fulfilling a very necessary function", but it would probably be better served by one of his "subjects" that really needs the job and who would likely be more committed to it as a lifetime profession.

Not just as a pit stop on the way to the Crown.

Abolish the monarchy after the Queen passes. Then these royals can be whatever they want to be----- on their own money.

I have no patience for a fellow who appears to be throwing away his chance to learn about what it is going to be like to be a monarch from his grandmother.

He may not have chosen to be born a future king, but he needs to do the mature thing and deal with it.

I´m surprised at the enmity expressed toward William.

He wants to do something worthwhile, and he has the skills to do it. Perhaps he has learned from his grandmother, who drove a first aid truck during WWII.

No need for panic, but
terrorism remains a threat

Sometimes it is hard to reconcile freedom and security: one can come at the expense of the other. As millions of British families head abroad for the holidays, they are likely to face long queues at airports thanks to the United States’ call for heightened security measures. Terrorists are thought to be targeting transatlantic flights. Sir Malcolm Rifkind, the head of the intelligence and security committee, has received briefings on the nature of the threat posed and writes that these measures are not an overreaction but unavoidable. Tomorrow marks the ninth anniversary of the 7/7 bombings that took 52 innocent

Nicolas Sarkozy’s enemies, and he has many, had hoped for a perp walk, a Dominique Strauss-Kahn moment: their bête noire in handcuffs between two flics, with no tie or shoelaces, being snapped at the instant of defeat by a hundred press photographers, before being ignominiously arraigned. That, at least, was (and still is) the plan: to ring the death-knell of a political career, started at 18, which brought this brash son of a Hungarian émigré to the leadership of the party founded by General de Gaulle, then to the Presidency of the French Republic in 2007, at the age of

For an intelligence service, losing an agent is the second worst thing that can happen. The worst thing, of course, is losing one of your own officers. In that context, for America, the news from Germany is far from ideal. On Friday, we learnt that the German government has apparently arrested one of its intelligence officers for spying for the United States. The suspect, a 31-year-old employee of the BND (Germany´s rough equivalent to the UK-SIS or US-CIA), has apparently confessed. Uncomfortably for Obama, the German press is reporting that the accused may have provided information on a parliamentary inquiry examining

GREENVILLE--Former state treasurer Thomas Ravenel, who resigned from office after his arrest on drug charges, said he is running as an independent for the U.S. Senate currently held by Lindsey Graham in South Carolina. Ravenel announced his intention Friday at an Independence Day rally in Greenville. He still must deliver 10,000 signatures from registered voters to state election officials by July 15 to get on the ballot. Ravenel wants to reduce the size of government and give people more personal freedom. He says the U.S. needs a better foreign policy. Ravenel said he knows the 10 months he served in

Huge swathes of Helmand Province, the area of Afghanistan where hundreds of British soldiers were killed in eight years of bloody fighting, are once again in the hands of the Taliban, The Mail on Sunday can reveal. The districts of Now Zad, Musa Qala and Sangin have been overrun by insurgents after British troops withdrew to the security of Camp Bastion--the last remaining UK base in the province. The return of the Taliban to hundreds of square miles of territory which was previously liberated by British soldiers makes a mockery of Prime Minister David Cameron’s declaration of ‘mission accomplished’ in

Twenty Roma parents and other family members who sent their own children on to the streets of Paris to rob holidaymakers were beginning prison sentences of up to eight years each yesterday. British visitors were among the hundreds of tourists targeted each day around the Louvre, Notre Dame and the Eiffel Tower by some 40 youngsters. There were disturbances in the court late on Friday afternoon when the tough sentences were handed down. The heaviest went to women--including mothers--involved in the crime network. Recycling is authoritarian, demeaning and an unutterable waste of time, energy and money. No surprise, then, that the European Union is planning to force its vassal states to do much, much more of it. Last week, the European Commission proposed its most draconian waste disposal legislation yet: a plan requiring 70 percent of all municipal waste and 80 percent of packaging waste to be recycled by 2030; a total ban of the landfill of recyclable waste by 2025, aiming "to virtually eliminate landfill" by 2030. As even the Guardian quietly concedes, this is an impossible ambition:

A Taliban bomb attack on the outskirts of Kabul set ablaze 200 fuel trucks that the militants claimed were supplying foreign troops in Afghanistan, officials said. The tankers were set on fire as they sat in a parking lot waiting to enter the Afghan capital, which is currently gripped by a fraud dispute over presidential elections in June. Taliban insurgents fighting a 13-year-war against US-led forces in Afghanistan often attack western supply convoys and claimed responsibility for the late Friday night attack. Television footage showed black smoke billowing above the site of the attack, with the charred wreckage of dozens of trucks

Pro-Russian separatists in Ukraine have fled their eastern stronghold of Sloviansk amid an offensive by the military, rebel sources say. President Petro Poroshenko has ordered the military to hoist the Ukrainian flag over the city council building. Sloviansk´s rebel mayor said fighters had left, with reports saying they had headed towards the town of Kramatorsk. Ukrainian forces launched an offensive against the separatists this week after a 10-day ceasefire broke down. The BBC´s David Stern in Kiev says the military´s capture of Sloviansk - where the eastern insurgency began in April - will be a major victory for the government.

A charter plane believed to be carrying immigrants arrived this evening at San Diego’s Lindbergh Field, apparently from Texas. Three Homeland Security buses arrived a few minutes later, trailed by numerous law enforcement vehicles. There is no information as to the buses´ destination. Earlier this week, federal officials said that 140 immigrants who had been detained crossing the border in Texas would arrive Friday. But since the blockade by protesters Tuesday at Murrieta, officials have declined to provide information about the movement of the immigrants.

The Obamas have spent over 44 million dollars in taxpayer money on travel and vacations. Some are even calling him the “most well-trvaeled, expensive” president in our nation’s history. Our president vacations a lot — we’re talking $44,351,777.12 worth of “a lot,” with most expenses charged to the American taxpayer. As of March 2014, Obama has spent more time traveling internationally than any other president, taking 31 trips since assuming office in 2009. The 119 days spent overseas have

President Obama has quietly promised Massachusetts Sen. Elizabeth Warren complete support if she runs for president — a stinging rebuke to his nemesis Hillary Clinton, sources tell me. Publicly, Obama has remained noncommittal on the 2016 race, but privately he worries that Clinton would undo and undermine many of his policies. There’s also a personal animosity, especially with Bill Clinton, that dates from their tough race six years ago. A former Harvard law professor and administration aide, Warren would energize the left wing of the Democrat Party just as Obama did against Clinton in 2008.
