New Jersey To Ban .22 Rifles?
Power Line, by John Hinderaker

Original Article

Posted By:trapper, 5/25/2014 1:56:46 AM

New Jersey’s legislature has enacted a gun control measure that would ban the most common .22 rifles that have been in use for generations. The Truth About Guns, via InstaPundit, has the story: The gun ban that has gone to New Jersey Governor Christie for signature has been described as a “gun magazine restriction“, but it bans numerous common sport and hunting rifles. The ban has no exemption for rifles with fixed magazines, including most common .22 rimfire rifles that are used for sport and small game hunting…and almost never used in crimes.

Comments:
This is where the rubber meets the road. Amnesty and gun control. Two "must-pass" litmus tests.

This absurd stipulation gives Christie an easy out to veto the legislation, whereas he´d be on the fence otherwise, given his vocal support of NJ´s outrageous 2A restrictions. (Surely it´s even money he´d be glad to ban standard-capacity magazines were he not setting his sights on higher office.)

I grew up in NJ, and used to ride the bus to school with my .22 strapped to my back in its carrying case. It sat in my locker all day until rifle team practice after school. What a sad state (literally) of affairs.

The article is incorrect. It does not ban tubular magazine fed guns. However, I Emailed and phoned the Gov telling him his support from the base of Republicans is shaky right now. If he signs this ludicrous bill, he will lose what support he now has. He will understand from that perspective.

I grew up in Northern New Jersey, and at age 13, spent a lot of time at the local gun range shooting a .22 rifle. Why? Because I liked to shoot, and that is where all the cute boys were, that´s important when you are a teen girl.

Christie´s chance for the nomination move from slim to none if he signs it. But the governor won´t say if he intends to. So, that keeps media attention on him up to the last minute. Then he can veto with maximum fanfare.

Progressives lack of maturity. They need to feel secure and taken care of.

Responsibility and self reliance is the anti-thesis of the progressive emotional state.
Self defense is part of self reliance.
Guns are part of self defense.

Karl Marx was a progressive. He relied on others for his support and livelihood. I believe Marx was a self entitled narcissist.

My private grammar school put in a 50 foot rifle range underneath the gymnasium back in the late 1960s. I would imagine that the range is no longer there today, but as school children (and, speaking for myself, as a Boy Scout), I did a lot of target practice with .22 Short, Long, and Long Rifle when I was between the ages of eleven and fourteen. We didn´t bring our personal .22s to school; the school had rifles for us to shoot. If our own fathers had not taught us proper gun safety (mine had), there were several faculty members who would. One of my fellow Scouts went on to win several state titles in shooting.

Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper today issued the following statement about the situation in Israel: The indiscriminate rocket attacks from Gaza on Israel are terrorist acts, for which there is no justification. It is evident that Hamas is deliberately using human shields to further terror in the region. Failure by the international community to condemn these reprehensible actions would encourage these terrorists to continue their appalling actions. Canada calls on its allies and partners to recognize that these terrorist acts are unacceptable and that solidarity with Israel is the best way of stopping the conflict. Canada is unequivocally

Some graduates of Northwestern’s Medill School of Journalism were handed a parting reminder of the school’s notorious “Medill F” when they received their diplomas over the weekend. About 30 of the more than 250 diplomas that were given out at Saturday’s two graduation ceremonies had a spelling error, a school official confirmed to the Tribune on Sunday. The error struck some students as ironic, given the school’s tradition, known as the "Medill F," of giving a failing grade to an assignment with a factual error such as a misspelling.

There are serious worries in Texas and beyond over the current flood of illegal immigrants and the diseases they are carrying into the United States. ABC 15 reports from the southern border: U.S. Border Patrol agents are worried that what´s coming over into the U.S. could harm everyone. This time the focus is not on the women and children that are crossing over in droves. Agents are worrying about a viral outbreak. “We are sending people everywhere. The average person doesn´t know what´s going on down here,” said Border Patrol agent and Rio Grande Valley Union representative Chris Cabrera.

They had a dream. For almost a hundred years now, the famed academic-artistic-and-punditry industrial complex has dreamed of a government run by their kind of people (i.e., nature’s noblemen), whose intelligence, wit, and refined sensibilities would bring us a heaven on earth. Their keen intellects would cut through the clutter as mere mortals’ couldn’t. They would lift up the wretched, oppressed by cruel forces. Above all, they would counter the greed of the merchants, the limited views of the business community, and the ignorance of the conformist and dim middle class.

A new Danish statistical study finds that “Muslims [are] 218 percent more criminal in second generation than first.” While some of these crimes are clearly related to Islam – such as attacks on Muslim apostates to Christianity – others, such as rampant theft against non-Muslims, would appear banal, until one realizes that even robbery and plunder are justified by Islamic doctrine – as one U.K. Muslim cleric once clearly said. The interesting question here is why second-generation Muslims, who are presumably more Westernized than their Muslim parents, are also more “radical.”

That includes vending machines, lunch rooms and other campus food venues. And that’s really bad news for kids at South Carolina’s Socastee High School. The basic structure of those plans is a swap of a) near-immediate legalization for b) increased border security in the future. The appealing idea is to let current illegals stay while taking the steps necessary to prevent further waves. The lie is the assumption that, once current illegals get their legalization, pro-immigrant activists in both parties will continue to support the second half of the bargain, the increased security.
