On May 24, the family of Santa Barbara shooting suspect Elliot Rodger released a statement through their attorney saying they are "against guns" and support gun control. On May 23, their son allegedly shot and killed 7 people, including himself, and wounded 7 others. Breitbart News reported his motive was "retribution" for women who had rejected his advances. Elliot was the son of Peter Rodger, one of the assistant directors of Hollywood´s The Hunger Games. According to the Post and Courier, attorney Alan Shifman spoke on behalf of the family, saying: "My client´s mission in life will be to try

Gun control certainly didn´t stop your son from murdering innocent people. I hope you keep your doors at home unlocked so people can come in and take what they want...and no one gets hurt. Imagine, your son was driving an expensive car last night, so you obviously have more than you need and can share with others of your ilk.

Banning liberalism would be a good step in the right direction. If you look at the mass murderers two things they have in common is liberalism and mental illness.

About a block from where my daughter lives, a woman shot her ex-husband then committed suicide. Most comments on the net about it were shock and prayers for the family. One comment caught my attention; the author just said, "guns are bad".
I commented that of all the guns I have, I have never caught one of them doing something bad yet. I also commented, asking are their "good guns"? Guns of policemen, the military or when a gun is used to stop a crime? If that woman had borrowed a "good gun" would she still be alive?
People who want to blame guns are people who have difficulty admitting that humans are the problem and the culture that influences humans. Humans are the problem. It´s not guns, drugs, booze, poker chips, or porn sites; it´s humans. People are sinful and people do wrong. Blaming an object for the sins of humans is lying to self, to society and to our Creator. But our society has abandoned morality in favor of living in sin and calling it freedom; and this event is one of the casualties of such a culture.

SB County Sheriff said the 3 bodies removed from the shooter´s residence were his roommates and they were stabbed to death. Multiple stab wounds.

Are knives bad now?

Just watched the live feed on web of Santa Barbara Sheriff´s news conference. The three bodies (men) were found brutally stabbed to death when police went to his home to investigate "after" shootings done and he killed himself. He had three guns bought legally BEFORE two sheriffs came and visited him in April on some call. They were obviously not "required" to ask if he had "weapons´ of this sort in the apartment. (I thought all federally listed firearms are in local police database for their safety in responding to a call). Either way, he should have been asked...in my opinion. He had plenty of loaded clips left in car at the end and the SB Sheriffs were heroic in taking him out.

I just heard that he stabbed his roommates to death. Do they want to control knives too? No, guns don´t kill; knives don´t kill; people do. This young man grew up in that Hollywood culture which makes movies about killing for entertainment. If one grows up with eschewed values, this is what happens.

To me the only issue with gun control is good shot placement.

To think that controlling legal firearms will solve any problem is to have one head buried in a dark place. All it controls is people who obey the laws not the lawless.

And when guns are banned crazy people like this will kill others by mowing them down with their cars. And then we ban cars and they will use knives. And then we ban knives and they will drop bricks from highway overpasses. And then we fence in all the overpasses and then will find another way to kill. On the other hand we used to put mentally ill people in institutions where they couldn´t hurt others.

At the risk of offending someones sensibilities, I´m going to say that it may come to this at the end of this politically correct path of letting these mental defectives just live their lives until they kill a bunch of people with cars, knives and yes, bows ´n darrows. In fact, since the federalés couldn´t keep up with the bad guys, some Mexican folks have formed up squads of vigilantes to do it for them. In case you don´t know where Mexico is where this is happening, it´s right next door. Can´t happen here? Bet me!!

On our HOA/local cable provider, they have recent releases - I tried to watch "Hunger Games" for a little bit but had to keep changing the channel because it was kind of scary for my tender nerves but the gist of it seemed to be that these people were being punished for staging a revolution some time back against an oppressive government but apparently it didn´t pan out - so, because they didn´t have weapons to defend themselves, they were basically enslaved by an even more oppressive government against which they could not defend themselves - a mixture of present day North Korea and ancient Rome -

this assistant director who worked on "The Hunger Games" doesn´t grasp the concept of the 2nd amendment and where "gun control" could take us - obviously gave their son an extremely expensive car but so out of touch with what was going on with him -

Once again Liberals hate and act on it while Conservatives live their quiet lives - except when Liberal hate comes their way.

I´d be perfectly happy with gun control for Liberals. They should be rejected for gun sales the moment they are recognized. Unfortunately Federal guidelines don´t allow that exception. The kid had access to a car and enough cash to buy 3 guns, legally, if the story is accurate. He had made violent, vengeful u-tube videos that were reported to the police by his family.

Frankly, if nuts like this can get guns, I don´t want MY access to a means of defense cut off. His family is nuts! Unless you can eliminate every gun in the world - in an instant - gun control cannot work.

And what does that say about violence with the knives and car he used? We going to outlaw them, too?

Liberals are too stupid and too selfish to be taken seriously.

Blame it on the guns! Just read this twisted monsters essay online. Of the many depravities in it the one that stood out for me was his confidence that he was highly intelligent, that he should run the world with a fanatically loyal armed force ( like Obama´s brownshirt force - every federal agency with a law enforcement role armed to the teeth ) at his disposal to enforce his views and establish a utopian paradise. Obama could adopt this killer as his own son he never had with more credibility than Trayvon Martin!

I live in Santa Barbara, so I´ve been following the local news outlets for more accurate details than the national and international sources may be providing. For those of you interested, the Santa Barbara Independent is an excellent print source, and station KEYT is likewise a good TV/Web source.

And the details are significant. They significantly change the "cause of death/injury" story. Here is the breakdown as of this morning.

Of the 7 dead, 3 are by stabbing, and 4 are by shooting (with one of those being the suicide by the gunman). There were 13 total injured, and all are expected to survive, with 8 by shooting, 4 by car, and one by "unknown means."

So almost half of the total reported were killed or injured by other means than by gun. So perhaps in addition to gun control, there should also be an outcry for knife control and car control (as well as the mentioned son control).

Accuracy in reporting. What a concept.

Liberalism + Mental Illness + Addiction to Violent Video Games + Mental Drugs = Mass Shooting. Liberals wish to ignore all components involving personal responsibility and blame everything on a thoughtless gun. Then those of us who do not suffer mental illness can be defenseless.

There have been a number of these mass murders in the last year, but one thing has been missing, the perpetrators have not been conservative red neck gun loving NRA members, but in reality have just about all been pretty much liberal minded nut job loners, most times addicted to very violent video games, not the types to have contemporary all American classy girlfriends, who in the end after they commit enough murders to garner national news headlines, end up in their own personal suicide situation, with their life ended either by themselves or some law enforcement officer who happens to confront them.

I´m not going to listen to some Hollywood buffon lecture and blame me for his failure as a father and the horrible actions of his violent, clearly demented son.

Perhaps it was the Hollywood environment he was raised in, lack parenting skill, and an over inflated sense of self-importance that led to this rampage simply because he couldn´t get a date. And you have to gall to blame the NRA and Gun Control?? I hope the families of those victims sue you for every cent you have! Maybe it was all the violence in movies such as The Hunger Game.

Blame the gun. (But not, apparently, the knife or the car.) In fact, blame the gun and, if you´re the father of one of the murderer´s victims, blame the NRA and "craven politicians."

But never, ever, ever blame yourself for your failures as a parent. Because to do so would be judgmental, and we must avoid -- at all costs, even when those costs are reckoned in human lives -- declaring that any one person is better or worse than any other. If we did, then surely the sky would fall.

I listened to a bit of the killer´s youtube video and I have a couple of thoughts. He spoke quite a bit about being 22 years of age and still a virgin, not even having kissed a girl, etc. He then went on about how college is the time when people his age are having fun, having sex, etc, but he hasn´t. Then he said it. He said, "It´s not fair". I think we need to take a second look not at our "gun culture" or "violent video game culture", but at our culture generally. "It´s not fair", so I kill. He´s the kindergartener who doesn´t have the 86 count crayola box, so he lashes out. God help us.

I think we could use some narcissism control. Some self-indulgence control. Some "entitlement" control. Some vanity control. How about some self-discipline? Some "I´m so special, I should have everything I want without working for it control? Some "I deserve everything I want NOW control?

Some psychotic, insane, crazy people control. some help the mentally ill control.

So they are against guns and they want the country to address mental illness. What part do they play in this? How come they didn´t practice what they are preaching at home? Maybe it is the self-indulgent culture of Hollywood, where those in the movie industry think that they are above everything and can do anything but not be held accountable for the harm they do cause. Take care of your own backyard before you tell others to take care of theirs.

People of faith have compassion for the parents in the loss of their son and, most certainly profound compassion for the victims and their families.

Enough already with the absurdity of needing gun control! If any of the victims had guns, they might have saved their own lives as well as the lives of others. The problem is not guns; the problem is more far-reaching that includes parents, children, family values, religious values or lack thereof, peers, the moral depravity of today’s society, and without question, the entertainment industry.

The statement issued on behalf of the family captures the essence of the problem with guns: “mental illness.”

There is a family responsibility in recognizing and seeking treatment for loved ones with mental illness; however, the entertainment industry is responsible in large measure for the moral depravity that has befallen this country, and the bloodshed within this country due to its primary focus on bloodshed in one manner or another with constantly increasing efforts to sensationalize bloodshed through motion pictures, music, novels, pornography, video games, etc.

Two points:

I´d like to see comparative psychological profiles of recent mass killers, and full disclosure about how their right to privacy and self-esteem (by not being committed to a mental hospital) trumps public safety.

And, while guns make it easier for nut jobs to act out their urges, controlling them will not stop a future nut job from using another means to accomplish mass murder on a scale that makes Elliot look like a beginner.

People kill not guns - in fact, I have never heard of an NRA member going on a killing rampage have you?

Liberals generally seem to have a skewed view of the world.
Such a view is not subject to reason or factual presentation.
This is because FEELINGS trump anything else in their world.
Those feelings push their political agendas and seek to control others´ freedoms "for our own good". Using feelings as a basis for laws is immature and dysfunctional, but that hasn´t stopped liberals for a long time now.

The common thread between all of these mass killings is 1) mental illness 2) white boys whose families are not poor 3) social rejection or isolation.

Wealthy families do not grasp the value of a teenager getting a low paying job. They stay busy, they see a world outside their own, and the family gets an early indication of a mental illness when they keep getting fired.
By the way, rebellious teenagers always want to do what their parents hate, so beware liberal anti-gun activists.

On May 29, President Barack Obama had lunch at the White House with former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton. Unlike dozens of presidential meetings every week — and a similar Obama-Clinton meeting in July 2013 — it was not announced in advance.
