ummer is for R&R — reading and more reading. Whether you’re looking for an escape (vampires? killer ice-cream men?) or a reminder that your family vacation could always be worse, we’ve got a book for you. The Post — with help from Manhattan bookstores The Mysterious Bookshop and The Strand, Brooklyn’s Word, and Amazon — sifted through hundreds of books to gather what we feel are the best of the season. Get out of town The Matchmaker by Elin Hilderbrand (Little, Brown), out June 10. Hilderbrand, the queen regent of the easy-breezy summer read, is back again in a location she’s best

Comments:
Some relief from all the murder and mayhem posted today. I´ve already loaded up my Kindle ... starting with a re-read of Dante´s Divine Comedy. I´m doing classics this summer.

Just read Killer Angeles for the first time. Excellent. And my all-time favorites are Christopher Fowler´s Bryant & May crime stories. These two characters are absolutely wonderful fun, and the background of London during the blitz and in years since provides a fascinating setting for some very original stories.

I got them at my public library. Originally published in the UK, they are popular here so do find their way to our libraries and bookstores.

Unique and highly entertaining reading.

Absolutely the best ride for the summer is Special Access by Mark Hewitt. A CIA file proves the President is not who he claims be and Navy SEALS are being killed in retaliation for Osama Bin Laden getting killed. You will not be disappointed.

Former Alaska Governor Sarah Palin said she felt Congress lacked the guts to impeach President Barack Obama for acting like a "tyrant" by refusing to enforce the country´s immigration laws and deliberately causing a humanitarian crisis at the border. (Snip) "Anyone associated with support for Obama’s deceptive ploys that would stoop to using and abusing innocent children must be voted out of office," she thunderously wrote. "Anyone who has shined the boot that Obama’s put on the neck of our economy and security must be held accountable by those with the legal power to do so – Congress." Palin said

Blue State Blues: Obama´s ´All

Breitbart Big Government, by Joel B. Pollack    Original Article

President Barack Obama tried to fend off criticism of his Iraq policy, as that country fell into the clutches of a terrorist army this week, by insisting that he was considering "all the options" for a response. "I don´t rule out anything," he said. Of course he doesn´t. The essence of postmodernism--of which this president is the political fulfillment--are a profound moral relativism, a habitual flexibility, a hermeneutical hanging-out. Yet what it mean to consider "all the options"? The president uses that phrase to suggest that he has not ruled out military force. He said much the same thing about

Obama: Iraq needs to solve its own problems

WASHINGTON — President Barack Obama says Iraq’s government must make a sincere effort to address sectarian differences, or else U.S. military help won’t succeed in curbing the insurgency there. He says, quote, “We can’t do it for them.” Obama says the U.S. won’t send troops back into Iraq. But he says he’s asked his national security team to prepare a range of other options. He says he’ll review those options in the coming days. Obama says the risk posed by terrorists in Iraq could eventually pose a threat to U.S. interests, too. A fast-moving insurgency in Iraq has taken over

All the President’s Muses: Obama

New York Observer, by Sidney Powell    Original Article

As Ninth Circuit Chief Judge Alex Kozinski has written, prosecutorial misconduct has become “an epidemic.” And evidence has come to light that our president, the nation’s chief law enforcement official, seeks his counsel from the worst. If ever a picture was worth a thousand words, it is a recently released White House photo of President Obama and his muses—if one only knew the truth behind those muses whispering in the President’s ear as they strategized in the aftermath of the Benghazi tragedy. To understand the (politely-put) “lack of transparency” from the White House, the enormous politicization of the Department of

In an interview to promote her book on BBC, Hillary Clinton called the Russian so-called reset "a brilliant stroke." The statement came in response to a question about whether she was in retrospect embarrassed about the policy. (snip) The BBC reporter asked, "You famously pressed the reset button. Are you embarrassed by that now, that gesture?" While announcing that they would not longer give killers the opportunity at glory that comes from having their names mentioned and their photographs aired on television, Sun News also address the extremely low rate of "mass shootings" in America compared to the excruciatingly high rate of murder in gun-controlled Chicago. According to the Sun News, mass shootings around the world--including the U.S.--are so rare that news agencies make a mistake by seizing on them. Focusing specifically on the U.S., Sun News reported: "And in the U.S., they account for less than one percent of all gun-related deaths. Far more people

Last week, George Will wrote a column about how progressive politics have fomented "rape culture" on college campuses. I received the following press release yesterday, headlined: "87,000 Call on The Washington Post to Address Sexism, Fire George Will." A group called UltraViolet was touting the success of an online petition they´d whipped up over the controversy. Hillary Fails History: Calls Lincoln

President Abraham Lincoln was never a Senator. Ever. From Illinois or anywhere else. Other than a single, two-year term as an Illinois Congressman, Lincoln held no elective office other than that of our 16th president. (Snip) Yesterday, President Obama´s Twitter feed claimed the first moonwalk occurred in 1963 when it really happened in July of 1969. Democrats can be lazy about facts n´ stuff because the media is too busy checking Sarah Palin´s latest Facebook post to see if she mistakenly used a semi-colon instead of a full colon.

The decision of the Republicans in Virginia’s Seventh Congressional District to retire the House majority leader, Eric Cantor, and advance a young economics professor strikes us as promising, even if we are in the radical pro-immigration camp. How in the world can Congress address the immigration question before it addresses the lack of economic growth? And how can it address the problem of growth without addressing the collapse of the dollar? And how can address the collapse of the dollar without addressing a debt ceiling that Mr. Cantor kept voting to raise? These are questions that were well marked by

Eliana’s report is just stunning — no matter how many times similar “mishaps” have occurred in this administration. The IRS, like other government agencies, has lots of reasons to maintain emails, so I’m curious about whether they will be similarly informing courts, Congress, litigants, FOIA petitioners, and other people and bodies they must periodically make disclosures and reports to that they’ve lost nearly two years’ worth of agency communications? Or was this just one of those highly, highly unusual computer crashes that affects only the email account of Lois Lerner and any executive branch official with whom she happened to

BOSTON — Once fearing he would be viewed as "a loser for life" if he failed to win the presidency, Mitt Romney is trying to re-emerge as a force in Republican politics. Romney has quietly sought kingmaker status in the GOP´s fight for the Senate majority this fall and its quest to retake the White House in 2016. The effort at revival is fueling whispers about a third presidential run. But those closest to Romney suggest he´s more interested in shaping party politics by lending his name and record-breaking fundraising machine to what he considers the next generation of electable conservatives. Clinton, who joined NBC News as a “special correspondent” in November 2011, was up for renewal or non-renewal this year. Instead, the sources said, the network decided to keep her on the payroll on a month-to-month basis so that the two parties could sever ties if Clinton’s mother, Hillary, runs for president.
