Portland water scare: Water bottles

Los Angeles Times, by Paresh Dave

Facing the largest boil-water order in the region’s history, Portlanders emptied stores’ supplies of bottled water, chucked potentially contaminated food and braced for a complicated Memorial Day weekend. About 670,000 people in the Portland, Ore., area were told after lunch Friday to boil water used for drinking, cooking and tooth-brushing. Three routine tests this week showed the water system was contaminated by E. coli bacteria, usually associated with animal or human fecal matter. The finding suggested the water supply could include other harmful bacteria, although health officials said the worst condition someone likely would suffer is diarrhea. Within the city, nearly

I thought plastic water bottles were banned in Portland because they are killing the planet.

What´s the story? Was a municipal employee selling the water treatment chemicals? Or did was someone taking an extra day of holiday? Or did someone fall asleep and not throw the addition switch?

Wow. I though the nut jobs in Oregon hated bottled water and wanted to ban it.

People in this country are all going around with their heads buried somewhere. We have seen water problems in other States/Cities, Power outages for weeks.

While a few may be prepared for emergencies, I bet all feel it will happen to someone else but them.

Every American should turn off their electric and water for one months and see if you can survive. If you can´t, then you will panic and be a major part of a problem when those disasters hit this country.

Those of us who lived before the "electronic pacifier age" will have no problem. It´s just like camping in the old days if you are smart enough to prepare for it.

Anyone who has visited Portland in the past few years can readily attest to the fact that filthy looking street people are everywhere. Whatever they are high on it is not sanitation.

The Bureau of Labor Statistics has announced the good news from the June jobs report. The American economy created 288,000 jobs and the jobless rate fell to 6.1 percent. It is important to note that the labor participation rate remained steady, which means the fall in the jobless rate was caused by new jobs and fewer layoffs, not workers dropping out of the labor force. Note: The latest Gallup poll on jobs this week showed improvement, and the ADP jobs report released this week also showed improvement on jobs. Coupled with today´s good news, there have now been three positive

Maybe his kids. Certainly not the Republican members of Congress. Americans who aren´t fierce Republican or Democratic partisans probably rolled their eyes at this display — if they haven´t completely tuned out Washington´s bimodal distrust and contempt. Problem is, right now, that mutual distrust and contempt hampers a national response to an urgent humanitarian crisis involving

Many of you probably watched portions, if not all of, Megyn Kelly’s interviews with Bill Ayers, the unrepentant domestic terrorist of yesteryear. Kelly did her usual excellent job of pressing Ayers on his violent past. But Stanley Kurtz wishes she had pressed Ayers more about his relationship with Barack Obama. For, as Kurtz points out, Ayers and Obama had a much tighter political alliance than Ayers admitted to on Kelly’s show. Kelly focused on Ayers’ fundraiser for Obama’s first political campaign, rather than their time together on several left-leaning Chicago foundation boards. This is understandable — anyone can sit beside

The United States added a stunning 288,000 jobs last month, sending the unemployment rate down to 6.1 percent and the Dow Jones Industrial Average shooting over 17,000 for the first time. June’s job numbers marked the fifth straight month of job gains over 200,000, the best stretch since the 1990s tech boom. A Bloomberg survey of economists expected an increase of 215,000 jobs in June. The unemployment rate dropped .2 percent to 6.1, the lowest since September 2008. May’s job report was also revised upward, showing 224,000 jobs added. The numbers follow strong reports for the Bay State last month, with

For years, Americans have been harangued with the “Healthy, Hunger-Free Kids Act” school lunch program. Under the auspices of Barack Obama’s wife’s concerns about child wellness, the federal government has rigorously limited food choices in public school cafeterias. Promoting and preserving good health has become so fundamental to American culture it now justifies stringent bureaucratic oversight to ensure that schoolchildren no longer participate in things like traditional in-classroom birthday and holiday celebrations. What’s odd is that the same supposedly über-concerned government attempting to prod America’s children toward making better food choices are also undermining their long-term health by cooperating with

Busloads full of illegal aliens, many of them children, from overcrowded detention facilities in Texas were flown into San Diego Tuesday morning before being driven north to Murrieta for processing, but plans changed when over 100 protestors prevented the bus from entering the Murrieta Border Patrol facility. In an exclusive interview with Breitbart News, Patrice Lynes, the organizer of the Murrieta protests, recounted the events that led to the buses turning back, and what demonstrators wanted to convey. When Lynes heard of the transfers, she gathered a couple of friends and began staging demonstrations against the transfers, as well as in

WASHINGTON – Gridlock in Washington will lead to gridlock across the country if lawmakers can’t quickly agree on how to pay for highway and transit programs, President Barack Obama and his top officials warned Tuesday. States will begin to feel the pain of cutbacks in federal aid as soon as the first week in August if Congress doesn’t act, Transportation Secretary Anthony Foxx said in a letter to states. That’s because the balance in the federal Highway Trust Fund is dropping and will soon go below $4 billion, the cushion officials say is needed for incoming fuel tax revenue to

WASHINGTON– Five years after the Great Recession officially ended, most states still haven’t regained all the jobs they lost, even though the nation as a whole has. In May, the overall economy finally recovered all 9 million jobs that vanished in the worst downturn since the 1930s. Another month of solid hiring is expected in the U.S. jobs report for June that will be released today. Yet 32 states still have fewer jobs than when the recession began in December 2007 – evidence of the unevenness and persistently slow pace of the recovery. A government-contracted security force threatened to arrest doctors and nurses if they divulged any information about the contagion threat at a refugee camp housing illegal alien children at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas, sources say. In spite of the threat, several former camp workers broke their confidentiality agreements and shared exclusive details with me about the dangerous conditions at the camp. They said taxpayers deserve to know about the contagious diseases and the risks the children pose to Americans. Seems the prospect of smokin’ out a snake like Bill Ayers was too good to pass up. Getting an exclusive one-on-one with a crazy, violent communist with a small c was quite a coup for Kelly and D’Souza...or was it? Since lying and deceit generally benefit the liar, we have to ask, ”What was in it for Bill Ayers?” A mea culpa for past crimes? Hardly. President Obama’s displeasure with gridlock in Washington — and with the Republicans he blames for it — has been rising for months. This week it has boiled over. From the Rose Garden to the Cabinet Room to near the Key Bridge in Georgetown, the president has signaled more than mere annoyance at the state of affairs at the halfway point of this year. His disdain for congressional Republicans has steadily increased; his disrespect for their tactics has hardened into contempt. Mrs. Obama went to the annual meeting of the American School Counselor Association in Florida to thank counselors for taking on a demanding job without the resources necessary to meet the challenges. Los Angeles teachers complain unsuspended violent kids are intimidating them and effectively ruling their classrooms. In 2011, the Education Department accused the Los Angeles Unified School District of discriminating against black boys, who were suspended for bad behavior at a disproportionate rate. The agency ordered it to reduce suspensions in the hopes that unruly minority students would stay in school and graduate.
