WASHINGTON - The Department of Agriculture has warned of sticker shock facing home chefs on the eve of the Memorial Day holiday weekend, the unofficial start of the U.S. summer grilling season. The agency said conditions in California could have "large and lasting effects on U.S. fruit, vegetable, dairy and egg prices," as the most populous U.S. state struggles through what officials are calling a catastrophic drought.

Lately, a package of steaks has been priced more like an investment opportunity than a purchase.

Ranchers couldn´t afford to feed their cattle because of drought, a spring blizzard last year killed most of the cattle in Colorado and surrounding states, and people couldn´t see this coming?

It´s going to be ribs & chicken this summer.
At $16.99 / pound +, my family will have to go without the red stuff until the price gets reasonable again.

Obama´s group of lightweights, mamma´s boys, softcommies and other assorted misfits inherited an America that, in spite of some imperfections, was stable, dependable and with a great future.

By merely assuming that this was somehow a concrete entitlement, rather than a dynamic situation that needs ongoing maintenance involving wisdom, courage, guts, blood and treasure they populated key responsibility positions with empty suits, including bunny suits.

Our entire financial future now depends on low inflation/low interest rates and the Petrodollar concept. Obamabots are working towards destroying all of them. They have no clue and no plan about combating inflation, just like all the other grownup problems of the world.

What happens to us when we return to the Carter era of stagflation? 12% mortgages and car loans, anyone?

Who says the Great Depression was in the 30s?? I think it is in the 2000s! It makes me sick. All food prices have been skyrocketing. Housing costs have gone way, way up (it doesn´t help when the government allows foreigners to purchase all our houses and land with cash while the rest of us cannot afford the outrageous rents that result). Gas is over $4 a gallon... Sales taxes are almost 9% (higher in other places) Who can afford to live anymore?? Incomes have not gone up. In fact, they have been stagnant for the last 10-15 years!

To exert downward pressure on beef prices, getting rid of the RFS (Renewable Fuel Standard) and the ethanol that adulterates gasoline, lowers fuel efficiency, and ruins engines would be a good place to start. End ethanol. It´s a complete waste of food for people and livestock. In Brazil over one thousand square miles of Amazon rainforest are clearcut each year to plant sugarcane for ethanol. Renewable fuels, the earth over, should be eliminated in toto.

Food has been increasing for the past 6 years. This is not new, unless some ´folks´ have just begun eating. High priced beef, pigs with a disease, and chickens from China.

Not much choice here. Do we hunt for the king´s deer, or fish. Or do we turn veggie and attempt to grow our own. No, some department will take that right away as well. The king not only wants us to die, he is satisfied with starving us as well.

This may be news to the Dept. of Agriculture and Reuters, but it´s not news to me.

Food prices have been climbing for quite some time.

Pope Francis has launched a scathing attack on the global economic system, warning it is near collapse because of a ´throwaway culture´ of greed and the ´atrocity´ of youth unemployment. The Roman Catholic leader openly blasted the ´idolatrous´ economy for disregarding the young, which he says has led to shocking levels of youth unemployment and will lead to a lost generation.

This past week, Fox News, Megyn Kelly, and Dinesh D’Souza gave a platform to an entity that hates America and our way of life. Seems the prospect of smokin’ out a snake like Bill Ayers was too good to pass up. Getting an exclusive one-on-one with a crazy, violent communist with a small c was quite a coup for Kelly and D’Souza...or was it? Since lying and deceit generally benefit the liar, we have to ask, ”What was in it for Bill Ayers?” A mea culpa for past crimes? Hardly. After listening to Ayers, we must conclude: once a psychopath, always a psychopath.

President Obama’s displeasure with gridlock in Washington — and with the Republicans he blames for it — has been rising for months. This week it has boiled over. From the Rose Garden to the Cabinet Room to near the Key Bridge in Georgetown, the president has signaled more than mere annoyance at the state of affairs at the halfway point of this year. His disdain for congressional Republicans has steadily increased; his disrespect for their tactics has hardened into contempt. With immigration reform dead for this year, if not for the remainder of Obama’s presidency; with House Speaker John A.

The White House is not planning to reassess its strategy for handling thousands of unaccompanied minors streaming across the border amid mass protests. White House press secretary Josh Earnest said he had not spoken to President Obama about protests in California that blocked buses full of immigrant detainees from reaching a processing station. But Earnest said there was no expectation of changing strategies to deal with the flood of minors "at this point.” "At this point, what we´re focused on is making sure that we can ramp up the resources that are necessary to meet this growing need," Earnest said. Rep Sheila Jackson Lee (D-TX) believes the illegal alien children flooding across the border need candy not deportation. Breitbart.com reported: Thursday at a field hearing in Texas pertaining to the surge of unaccompanied minors at the U.S.-Mexico border, Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee (D-TX) balked at the suggestion of Homeland Security Chairman Rep. Mike McCaul (R-TX) that the children filling the border facilities need to be detained and deported by holding up a bag of lollipops to demonstrate her view that compassion not deportation is in order. Referring to the illegal immigrant minors as “homeless children,” Jackson Lee said, “I took lollipops along with

NEW YORK — Target is asking its customers to not bring firearms into its stores, even where it is allowed by law. In a statement posted Wednesday on the retailer´s corporate blog, interim CEO John Mulligan said that Target wants a "safe and inviting" atmosphere for its shoppers and employees. "Bringing firearms to Target creates an environment that is at odds with the family-friendly shopping and work experience we strive to create," he said. (Snip) A group called Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America gathered nearly 400,000 signatures for a petition asking Target to prohibit shoppers from carrying guns

The Vancouver (British Columbia) Board of Education has approved a sweeping new policy for accommodating lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, two-spirit, queer, questioning and “all sexual and gender identities,” including the creation of three pronouns, replacing masculine and feminine with xe, xem and xyr (pronounced ze, zem and zur). Two spirit is an Aboriginal term which means having both feminine and masculine spirits. It´s not limited to gender expression or sexuality, but encompasses them both while incorporating a spiritual element. It´s a standalone identity, not an Aboriginal term for gay lesbian. The Vancouver Board of Education´s policy also includes making restroom and sports

In his new book, Obama’s Enforcer: Eric Holder’s Justice Department (co-written with John Fund), Hans von Spakovsky reveals how our attorney general has turned America’s Department of Justice into “a politicized hotbed of left-wing legal activism.” The author revealed to Human Events the magnitude of Holder’s offenses highlighted in his book, offenses which should be an alarming wake-up call to every American: What do you reveal in your book that people might not know about Eric Holder? Recent events have not been kind to Hillary Clinton, but she is far from an innocent victim in what surely is one of the worst revival tours in memory. Hillary Clinton, still unwilling to acknowledge her and her boss’s failure to accurately assess the threats from al-Qaeda and the spread of jihaists into Libya, stubbornly insists we really don’t know why the jihadists attacked and killed our people. Oh, puhleez. While not a supporter of civilian trials for enemy combatants, I must admit there is something satisfying about the prosecution’s version of events laid out for all to see. The New

Higher education is no longer just for kids in the top quarter or the top half of the class. College is for everyone," First lady Michelle Obama told a gathering of school counselors in Florida on Tuesday. "Every student in this country needs some higher education, whether that´s two-year degree, a four-year degree, or professional training of some sort." Mrs. Obama went to the annual meeting of the American School Counselor Association in Florida to thank counselors for taking on a demanding job without the resources necessary to meet the challenges. They, in turn, made her an honorary school counselor.

The United States added a stunning 288,000 jobs last month, sending the unemployment rate down to 6.1 percent and the Dow Jones Industrial Average shooting over 17,000 for the first time. June’s job numbers marked the fifth straight month of job gains over 200,000, the best stretch since the 1990s tech boom. A Bloomberg survey of economists expected an increase of 215,000 jobs in June. The unemployment rate dropped .2 percent to 6.1, the lowest since September 2008. May’s job report was also revised upward, showing 224,000 jobs added. The numbers follow strong reports for the Bay State last month, with

Education: As we predicted, the Obama regime´s anti-suspension policy is backfiring. Los Angeles teachers complain unsuspended violent kids are intimidating them and effectively ruling their classrooms. In 2011, the Education Department accused the Los Angeles Unified School District of discriminating against black boys, who were suspended for bad behavior at a disproportionate rate. The agency ordered it to reduce suspensions in the hopes that unruly minority students would stay in school and graduate. "The district shall develop and implement a comprehensive plan to eliminate the disproportionality in the discipline imposed on African-American students," the five-page decree says. The superintendent agreed
