Oh, Brother

George W. Bush owns what he calls a “treasured” picture that depicts him being sworn in as governor of Texas for the first time—the image also shows what he says is his “pensive” brother Jeb in the background. George W. has studied the picture and come to a conclusion about the moody look on Jeb’s face as he stands, in the second row, directly behind their misty-eyed father: Jeb, George W. wrote in his autobiography, is “no doubt thinking of what might have been.” The picture was taken in 1995, not long after Jeb had lost his own gubernatorial race in

Before the bashing begins, I want to be on record as being a big GW fan, a sometimes Jeb fan, but an admirer and respecter of the Bush family.

Honor and respect their decency as a family and as Americans. Little, if any, like it is seen on the other side.

I was a big fan of GW´s, too. But I realized that while he was sold (and I bought) as a Christian Conservative...he really was mostly Christian and not so much Conservative. I still think he was the right man for the early 2000s...but I felt betrayed about the Conservative part.

Fool me once.......older and wise now.

Interesting take on Bush family dynamics. The article references GWB´s low approval rating when he left office but I think he is a lot more popular than mainstream wants to admit. Jeb, by all reports, was a very good governor of Florida but I am with his mother on this one, another Bush president right now would be too much like a dynasty. GWB is a loyal brother and a Bush so of course he would back Jeb. It will be interesting to see how this all plays out.

So the Left reveals their modus operandi on Jeb: he´s a resentful, jealous man who doesn´t have the temperament to be POTUS? Starting early, aren´t they?

That said, enough Bushes. We need a Trey Gowdey, a Bobby Jindal, a Ben Carson, a person of character and accomplishment, not another Bush. It´s too early in history, although I must say that W looks better and better as time passes. At least he was a real man.

Until someone comes along and will/can speak with Truth, Clarity, Honesty and doesn´t back down to the MSM or liberals and establishment republicans or Any other Group, we will have the Bushes, Clinton´s, et al that TPTB decide for us.

Look how far down the rabbit hole the UK had to go before they (may) have started climbing back up.

I think we have a lot longer tunnel in front of us than is in the back - unfortunately.

I, too, am in agreement with OP. The Bush family, starting with GHWB and Barbara, are good human beings and good American citizens, and I deeply admire them on that level. Standing beside characters like Obama, the Clintons, and Carter, the Bushes come off looking great, but at present we need an unapologetic libertarian-conservative president to get us out of the hole in which we find ourselves. The Bushes are too much Chamber of Commerce types to turn around the economy.

Jeb would be a categorical improvement over Obama or Hillary!, but three Bushes in the presidency in three decades is too many. Tens of millions of voters would oppose him on those grounds alone.

The Bush family are not saints. They are a powerful political family. Americans are extremely generous to our former CIC´s and they have been rewarded handsomely with outstanding pensions and magnificent perks. I am happy the post-presidency is also profitable for them. However, the Bush era is over. We are not a monarchy.

IRS lawyers ought to enjoy themselves this holiday weekend because, as the Washington Examiner´s Mark Tapscott reports, "they´ll be busier than normal next week." IRS counsel will make two separate appearances next week in court to explain and defend the agency´s handling of Lois Lerner´s now-missing emails. The Obama administration has managed to keep the IRS story just below full-blown-scandal level for months now. The Washington-based establishment media, long friendly to Barack Obama and his White House, have been willing to accept at face value the increasingly implausible nothing-to-see-here claims of top IRS and Obama administration officials. The sickening news started filling my inbox during a family dinner. The three boys had become three bodies. “Not for publication yet,” my first source warned; I chose not to announce the news because I still wasn’t ready to bury my hopes for those kids. Half an hour later, my teenage son glanced at his ever-pinging cellphone and shared the bad news. My slightly prolonged denial didn’t ease the pain. I still had that constricted feeling in the chest so many of us have felt for 18 days, the recurring pit in the stomach that members of the three families

Every Fourth of July, some Americans sit down to read the Declaration of Independence, reacquainting themselves with the nation’s founding charter exactly as it was signed by the Second Continental Congress in 1776. Or almost exactly? A scholar is now saying that the official transcript of the document produced by the National Archives and Records Administration contains a significant error — smack in the middle of the sentence beginning “We hold these truths to be self-evident,” no less. The error, according to Danielle Allen, a professor at the Institute for Advanced Study in Princeton, N.J., concerns a period that appears right after

It looks like we have officially entered the world of the post-Obama presidency. President Obama’s recent speeches and remarks make it obvious that he is not making any serious effort to govern or to drive world events. Except for covering the basics, he seems to have taken something like an early retirement. We can look back at his West Point speech, which may go down in history as his first post-presidency speech, and the endpoint of an Obama foreign policy. During that speech, the president’s reflections on his foreign policy consisted of making excuses and trying to explain himself instead

Does this guy even understand how representative government works? Here’s how it works: the representatives govern. In other words, Congress makes the laws. But Obama seems to think that when push comes to shove, the president is the only representative the people need. Thus, he declared that “America cannot wait” for Congress, as if he speaks for America, rather than the people actually elected by the people to represent them in something called—you guessed it—the House

The question I am asked more than any other these days is: How on earth are we going to make it to 2017? It’s black humor, really, ironic hyperbole; no one really believes the United States will suffer an existential catastrophe between now and the day Barack Obama leaves office. Certainly we’ve seen nothing to compare with the cascading horrors of 1979, for example—a year that began with gas rationing, proceeded to a nuclear-plant meltdown, saw 52 American diplomats taken hostage in Iran, and ended with the Soviets invading Afghanistan. The people I’ve talked to lived through 1979; they know this.

It’s hard to imagine a more apt summation of the lunatic state of the nation’s immigration debate than this week’s split screen. In Washington, most respectable opinion lined up, yet again, to condemn Republicans for not passing an amnesty under the guise of defunct-for-now “comprehensive immigration reform.” Meanwhile, the crisis on the Southern border continued. A massive influx of people — largely driven by Central Americans, many of them children — drawn here in the expectation of lax immigration enforcement is overwhelming border officials and facilities. A Wall Street Journal story about the White House reaction to the crisis was headlined, “Obama Plans
