Lynnville, TN - When a Lynnville, TN, woman dropped her garden gnome on the sidewalk and it broke, what she discovered inside is now front-page news and the talk of the town in Giles County. (Snip) "My friend opened the door, and it dropped and fell. I went to pick up the pieces and noticed something inside it," Andrews said. There appears to be a statue inside the gnome that was formed at the time of the making of the gnome. It´s fused to the top and to the bottom. I actually clicked through to the gnome´s Facebook page (obviously...) and the photos are bizzare! One of his 114k fans commented that it may be some sort of artifact that was smuggled in to the country via the gnome. Could be! One of life´s great mysteries.

University of California President Janet Napolitano said Friday that a new panel of 75 to 100 people will oversee UC´s efforts to deal with sexual violence at its 10 campuses. The announcement comes just days before the state auditor is expected to issue a report on how UC´s flagship campuses - UC Berkeley and UCLA - handle sexual assault complaints. State lawmakers had authorized the audit during an emotional hearing in Sacramento in August after nine UC Berkeley students and alumnae accused campus officials of treating their assault allegations far too lightly. The nine who came forward have ignited national attention on

For more than a decade, the CIA has deployed drones, satellites, spies, informants and tracking devices to thwart al-Qaeda in Pakistan. The spy agency also considered a plan to wage war with toys. Beginning in about 2005, the CIA began secretly developing a custom-made Osama bin Laden action figure, according to people familiar with the project. The face of the figure was painted with a heat-dissolving material, designed to peel off and reveal a red-faced bin Laden who looked like a demon, with piercing green eyes and black facial markings. The goal of the short-lived project

Detroit — The top legislative body of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) voted by large margins Thursday to recognize same-sex marriage as Christian in the church constitution, adding language that marriage can be the union of "two people," not just "a man and a woman." The amendment approved by the Presbyterian General Assembly requires approval from a majority of the 172 regional presbyteries, which will vote on the change over the next year. But in a separate policy change that takes effect at the end of this week´s meeting, delegates voted to allow ministers to preside at gay weddings in states

Brussels — A Dutch scheme to build a utopian gated neighbourhood exclusively for the gay community has sparked a backlash, with opponents warning that retreating to a “ghetto” will not help tackle homophobia and prejudice in society. The project dubbed “Gay Village” by developers aims to give members of the lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) community a prejudice-free environment with luxuries including tennis courts and a cooking school. Washington parents are outraged after the state released a convicted rapist who nearly beat a 3-year-old girl to death and sexually assaulted at least three boys. Cory Roberts, now 37, was first convicted in 1990 after he raped and battered a toddler, leaving her paralyzed and brain damaged. He was freed once in 2001, only to be convicted of a similar crime weeks later. But now, King County said he´s no longer a threat. Roberts was released on Monday, Seattle´s KING 5 reported. Newark, where more than a quarter of residents live in poverty, is stuck paying $1 million a year on bonds for a baseball park that’s lost its main tenant. The $34 million Bears & Eagles Riverfront Stadium, envisioned as a pillar of development in the state’s most populous city when it opened in 1999, is mostly silent this season after the Newark Bears folded amid dwindling attendance. The owners are trying to sell the club after putting belongings, including the team bus, up for auction in April. Almost seven in 10 women who had a pregnancy terminated last year were married or in a stable long-term relationship, the new figures from the Department of Health show. Overall there were 190,800 abortions in England and Wales last year taking the total for the last decade to just under two million. Across mainland Britain as a whole there were 202,577 in 2013. Hillary Clinton — the woman assumed to be the next Democratic Party presidential nominee and quite possibly the next president — is evidently a big snooze. According to Mediate, her interviews to promote her book on CNN and Fox had underwhelming numbers. In the case of Greta Van Susteren’s show, she sent people fleeing midway. More importantly, her book itself is a sales disappointment and, I would wager, even more disappointing if you could ascertain how many who did buy it read actually past page 15.
