Mitch McConnell: GOP majority
won´t change filibuster rules

Washington Examiner, by Susan Ferrechio

Original Article

Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., said he will not lower the 60-vote threshold for passing legislation in the Senate next year if the GOP wins the majority in November. “I do not favor turning the Senate into a majoritarian institution, even though we would probably have some short-term advantage for doing it,” McConnell said Thursday at a forum hosted by the American Enterprise Institute. Senate Democrats earlier this year changed the rules of the Senate so that only 51 votes, not the typical 60, are needed to confirm executive branch and judicial nominees. The rules change, however, does not

Thanks Mitch. Now the Democrats know they will suffer no consequences for their horrific behavior. Playing nice with the Democrats never works. You will always be the loser.

We have to play by the same rules. Wanna bet the democrats re-institute the majority rule as soon as they get back into power? Ask yourself, what would the devil do and the democrats would do the same.

Why do our leaders always make it uphill for conservatives????

It is the responsibility of the majority party to get things done by WINNING adequate votes from members of the minority party. Traditionally this has been done by actually giving the minority party an opportunity to state their position on an issue, debate that issue and reach a compromise that can be supported by an adequate number of Senators to win passage.

Harry Reid has defied Senate tradition and abused his powers as the majority leader to:

1. Promote confirmation of appointees so far out of the mainstream that they could not be confirmed without changing the rules of the Senate

2. Shelter fellow Democrat Senators from needing to go on record voting for measures that would compromise their ability to get reelected

3. Shelter Obama from taking a public position on important issues and either signing or vetoing legislation

Democrats are in grave danger of losing their Senate majority because of the lack of progress caused by Reid´s dictatorial behavior.

I applaud McConnell for stating the obvious: getting things done for the good of America is more important than abusing the power of the Senate Majority leader.

Harry Reid is an embarrassment to the Senate, Nevada, and America. He should be back in Searchlight selling hot dogs.

The issue is moot.

If Republicans have 51 votes then they can reject Obama nominees outright. Any rules change would only be significant should a Republican president take office in 2017. But at that point the new Senate majority can change the rules.

McConnell has succeeded, with only a minority vote, in stymieing Reid and the presidential agenda to the point that Reid whines constantly. I wish McConnell well in the general election. With a majority in the Senate we can, as the earlier poster stated, bring Obama to a complete stop. Save the preemptive criticism until McConnell has done something to deserve it.

#7 is right. If we needed any more verification, Mitchie just gave it. No matter who wins, the reps are going to bend over for the dems and urinate away any advantage they might have had. Kind of like what they did during the Bush years.
They are indefensible and have outlived their usefulness.
If a new party were to begin to gather influence, how many reps would join in and say thats what they believed all along? Most of them?
They want elected and they want personal power and fortune. Thats all. They dont care a hoot about the country.

Mitch personifies the problem with the Republican establishment. They have nothing but contempt for conservative principles. They despise the Tea Party because those folks have new ideas for shrinking the government. Nah, Mitch wants handouts, face time on TV and the status quo. That´s it. I hope he gets crushed in November. Even a lefty is better than him. He is the ultimate "we have found the enemy and he is us" slob.

A new party isn´t the answer, we need to take BACK the Republican party.
We can afford to lose McConnell in the general election, then we can push for a Leader with guts to do the real work that needs to be done.
McConnell will do as much damage as a democrat in the Senate unless he loses his election.

Republicans not only surrender, they have now taken up announcing it in advance, so democrats will not be put to any trouble. If republicans win back the Senate, McConnell will be heard to say that he controls only one half of one third of the government and cannot be expected to vote against the Obama regime.

The Obama administration, unable to move the needle in the three-year-old Syrian civil war, now finds itself on the verge of moving toward a "my enemy´s enemy" foreign policy with Iran in order to keep Iraq from falling apart next door. The possibility of partnering with Iran to deal with a common foe -- a radical Sunni militant group bent on regional domination -- has immediately divided some of the Obama administration´s toughest critics. Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., called the idea of an alliance of convenience with Iran the "height of folly." Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., who typically is in lockstep with McCain

Under the authority of the Homeland Security Act, the federal government transfers custody of illegal immigrant children who are apprehended alone at our borders to the Department of Health and Human Service’s Office of Refugee Resettlement (ORR).
