Tough Times Ahead
for Sears and Best Buy

New York Times, by Elizabeth A. Harris

Sears Holdings and Best Buy on Thursday painted a bleak picture for the coming months, further signs of the rough retail landscape that so many companies have been confronting in a sluggish economic recovery. At Sears Holdings, owner of Sears and Kmart stores, earnings results were gloomy indeed. The company is closing at least 80 stores this year, it said Thursday, as losses continue to mount. In its first fiscal quarter, its net loss attributable to shareholders grew to $402 million, or $3.79 per diluted share. During the same period last year, the loss was $279 million, or $2.63. “Our

I bought an electronics accessory from Best Buy online, and I have to say the experience was almost painless. It was as good as Amazon in the delivery time department.

We always shop at Best Buy. Their website and prices are good and I always pay a fair price for merchandise.

NYT said back in 2012, that Best Buy would be bankrupt by the end of 2013. I don´t believe anything they write.

I never liked Best Buy´s marketing approach. Their ad shows what appears to be a great price and underneath in smaller letters it says ´after savings´, meaning you have to jump through the rebate hoops to get that good price. Too much like bait and switch.

Obumble´s "sluggish economic recovery" is in truth catastrophic economic malaise, or a "titanic economic disaster" if a Republican was in office.

Criticism mounting of Obama
administration’s inaction in Iraq
Washington Times, by Tom Howell Jr.    Original Article

Members of Congress called on President Obama Sunday to link up with Arab allies and quell a quick-moving crisis in Iraq, where Islamic militants swept toward Baghdad and left a bloody trail in their wake. Republican lawmakers said the administration has sat on the sidelines for too long as sectarian violence threatens to undo what U.S. troops accomplished during the war in Iraq. The bloodshed spurred by militants from an al Qaeda splinter group could topple the country’s fragile government while civil war rages in neighboring Syria, they said, offering a magnet for extremists from Iran and even western nations.

This week, the stunningly fast advance in northern Iraq of the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS), a Sunni militant group, has taken the world by surprise. As it takes over cities, including Iraq´s second-biggest, Mosul, in its quest to establish an Islamic caliphate, the group is threatening to draw regional powers into an armed confrontation. (Snip) Is it ISIS or ISIL? Both are correct. ISIS and the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) are the same, the group which emerged during the U.S.-led invasion of Iraq in 2003 and was once led by the feared Abu

In Iraq, an al Qaeda splinter group is threatening Baghdad after seizing control of two cities. In Pakistan, the Taliban attacked a major airport twice in one week. And in Nigeria, the Islamist militant group Boko Haram was blamed for another mass kidnapping. A cluster of militant attacks over the past week is a reminder of how the once-singular threat of al Qaeda has changed since the killing of Osama bin Laden, morphing or splintering into smaller, largely autonomous Islamist factions that in some cases are now overshadowing the parent group. Each movement is different, fueled by local political and

The first thing you hear is the music. It lilts and sways. Then you see the Islamist militants. They’re knocking at a policeman’s door. It’s the middle of the night, but the cop soon answers. He’s blindfolded and cuffed. They take him to the bedroom. And then, reports say, they decapitate him with a knife. WASHINGTON - The Obama administration on Monday announced it is designating a third U.S. military base for emergency housing of children immigrating illegally into the United States without parents or relatives, as the cost of caring for these minors escalated. Senior administration officials, who asked not to be identified, told reporters that an Army base at Fort Sill, Oklahoma, will initially hold 600 "unaccompanied minors" and eventually will be able to accommodate up to 1,200. In recent weeks, the Obama administration has opened similar emergency shelters at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas, and Naval Base Ventura County

WASHINGTON - Army Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl left his combat outpost in Afghanistan in 2009 and fell into enemy hands for five years, but the former Taliban prisoner wasn´t the only trooper to sneak out of a U.S. base in recent years, military sources told ABC News on Sunday. "At least a dozen guys just walked off their posts" in Afghanistan since 2009 for a variety of reasons, said an experienced soldier, one of four Afghan war veterans familiar with the incidents who spoke to ABC News. The other sources estimated the number could be more than a dozen.

WASHINGTON — When the heads of the two major intelligence committees criticized the Obama administration on Sunday for swapping Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl for five members of the Taliban, they homed in on one part of the deal that the White House has struggled for a week, unsuccessfully, to explain. The question is why the five were released without any commitments to a larger agreement, under which the Taliban would renounce international terrorism, and begin a process of reconciliation with the government of Afghanistan. That condition had been at the heart of the original discussions with the Taliban about a prisoner

RANCHO MIRAGE, Calif. – It´s perhaps appropriate that President Barack Obama is vacationing this weekend in California, where the state flag features a roaming grizzly. The restless president, who has compared himself to a caged animal on recent wanderings by declaring the "bear is loose," took a long Father´s Day weekend away with his wife and older daughter. The visit to the desert resort area of Palm Springs is one of the ways Obama has been trying to escape during his sixth year cloistered in the White House. Barack and Michelle Obama´s weekend visit to Palm Springs, California, started out with a wardrobe malfunction for the first lady - but luckily the president was there to save the day. The first couple were stepping off Air Force One at the Palm Springs International Airport on a balmy Friday evening when a gust of wind nearly blew up the voluminous skirt of Mrs Obama´s green-and-black summer frock. The 50-year-old first lady was photographed struggling to tame the billowing fabric, with a relaxed Mr Obama walking alongside her with a rueful smile on his wife.Eventually, the commander-in-chief came to his

Anaheim, CA - President Obama, appearing emboldened after his recent move to cut carbon emissions from coal-fired power plants, on Saturday ridiculed members of Congress who deny climate change or plead scientific ignorance as an alibi for avoiding an uncomfortable truth.
