Director of scandal-hit VA hospital in

The director of the Phoenix Veterans Affairs Health Care System received an $8,500 performance bonus in April while the agency´s inspector general investigated the deaths of 40 veterans there due to mismanaged waiting lists. Sharon Helman also got a $9,345 bonus in 2013. A red-faced VA was forced to rescind the bonuses on Wednesday after a member of Congress blew the whistle on national television. As the scandal deepens, two Democrats have broken a partisan logjam by demanding the resignation of VA Secretary Eric Shinseki. Florida Republican Rep. Jeff Miller blasted the VA during an interview Wednesday afternoon on CNN, saying

Comments:
This is exactly what caused some of the UK´s biggest National Health Service scandals--bonuses for meeting goals of efficiency and cost-cutting/saving without close examination of the methods.

Since before Obama was elected, Ldotters have been warning of untold numbers of patient deaths caused by NHS bureaucratic methods created by the National Institute for Clinical Excellence (NICE) "coming to [fill in the blank] near you soon." Here´s one HUGE example which came to a city near those in Arizona (and elsewhere?), which will no doubt become part of ObamaSnare if something isn´t done--like rescinding this awful system.

Every bonus will be restored when the scandal fuss dies down.

Some administrative reason will be found to restore or even increase them just as a reason was conveniently found to rescind them.

Fine, good. And what about Shenseki´s bonuses? And hasn´t Shenseki had enough time by now to make a call to the FBI? Which goes to show he isn´t doing all that he could as fast as he could. Politics are still being played with vets lives. Oh, and Boehner´s act of being very, very mad and will any day now call for Shenseki´s resignation if somebody doesn´t do something is getting old.

Denying climate change is like saying the moon is made of cheese, President Obama has said in his latest attempt to persuade an unconvinced world that "global warming" is the most urgent crisis of our time. [Snip] Here are some lines from his speech which explain why those present would be better off ignoring their pyromaniacal president´s entreaties. "I´m not a scientist." Possibly the only factually accurate words in the president´s entire speech. "But we´ve got some good ones at NASA." "Did have some good ones at NASA" would have been more accurate. Problem is, the organisation that put man on the moon

Writing on the Anglo-American relationship in the Mail on Sunday today, columnist Peter Hitchens reports on a little known conversation that sheds some light on the ´special relationship´ between the United States and the United Kingdom. He writes: Britain and the USA have come far closer to open armed combat with each other in modern times than most people realise. In many ways, this was the biggest war in modern history that never happened. Tired of being told about a ‘special relationship’ that didn’t seem to me to exist--and which nobody in Washington has ever heard of--I decided to look into what

I watched yesterday as convoys of exhausted Iraqi soldiers returned from the battle to save Baghdad from a ruthless onslaught by fanatical jihadist fighters. The weary men told shocking stories of vicious, hand-to-hand fighting with ISIS Muslim militia--and of innocent civilians caught in the crossfire. Pakistani fighter jets have carried out air strikes against militant hideouts, killing dozens of fighters, officials in the north-west of the country say. The strikes were in the mountainous Dehgan area in the North Waziristan tribal district, a stronghold for Taliban and al-Qaeda-linked militants. Uzbek militants were targeted, amid reports that fighters from Uzbekistan took part in an attack on Karachi airport which began last Sunday. No exact casualty figures were given. "The strikes were carried out based on confirmed reports about the presence of Uzbek and other militants in the area," an official said. It is the second set of strikes in the

The Iraqi army have begun a fightback against jihadist rebels who have captured vast swathes of territory as thousands of Shia volunteers answered a call from their religious leader to protect holy shrines. After days of rapid advances by the radical and feared Islamic State of Iraq and al-Sham (ISIS) movement, military commanders said they had halted the advance in which militant forces captured a series of northern towns and cities and moved towards Baghdad. The army’s assertion followed an apparent coded offer from Hassan Rouhani, Iran’s president, to the US for the two nations to work together to defeat ISIS, an

Nicotine patches have helped many smokers kick the habit, but new research suggests they may actually do more harm than good. A U.S. study found nicotine alone could cause cancer. The researchers, at the Virginia Bioinformatics Institute, say nicotine is such a powerful carcinogen that nicotine-infused products designed to help people give up smoking may not be safe. Nicotine is one of 4,000 chemicals found in cigarette smoke. While many of these chemicals are recognised as carcinogens nicotine has, until now, only been considered addictive rather than carcinogenic. It is heavily used in smoking cessation products such as patches and gum.

The Attorney General of the United States told a homosexual advocacy group on Tuesday night that the Boy Scouts of America "preserves and perpetuates the worst kind of stereotypes" by refusing to allow homosexuals to serve as Boy Scout troop leaders. "Today, courageous lesbian, gay, and bisexual individuals routinely put their lives on the line as members of America´s armed services," Holder told Lambda Legal Tuesday night. "And if these men and women are fit for military service, then surely they are fit to mentor, to teach, and to serve as role models for the leaders of future generations."

ISIS, the brutal insurgent/terrorist group formerly known as al Qaeda in Iraq, has seized much of western and northern Iraq and even threatens towns not far from Baghdad. From where did ISIS spring? One of George W. Bush´s most toxic legacies is the introduction of al Qaeda into Iraq, which is the ISIS mother ship. If this wasn´t so tragic it would be supremely ironic, because before the U.S. invasion of Iraq in 2003, top Bush officials were insisting that there was an al Qaeda-Iraq axis of evil.
