Clinton allies pressured Dems on Benghazi
Politico, by Jake Sherman & Anna Palmer

Original Article

Posted By:StormCnter, 5/22/2014 5:04:12 AM

Hillary Clinton’s world was so worried about a Republican investigation of the Benghazi attacks, they sent a message to House Democrats: We need backup. House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) publicly considered boycotting the panel, an idea that Clinton supporters feared would leave the potential 2016 candidate exposed to the enemy fire of House Republicans. So Clinton emissaries launched a back channel campaign, contacting several House Democratic lawmakers and aides to say they’d prefer Democrats participate, according to sources familiar with the conversations. Pelosi’s staff said they have not heard from Clinton’s camp.

The dems, especially Elijuh Cummings will make a circus side show of the hearings. It´s interesting how the Clintons can throw their weight around while we aleady have a sitting president.Right now she´s just a citizen who should´t have an influence on gov´t business.

I´m sorry, I just can´t read that and then think of Elijuh Cummings ugly mug and not crack up. Obviously, Pelosi is very big on irony. If the Dems try to turn this into a side show, it will backfire on them. You can´t belittle four dead Americans and their families on live media and get away with it, especially clowns like Cummings. Gowdy will handle them with ease.

The most annoying thing about these hearings is all the time wasted with the sentimental statements each member makes prior to questioning.

There really is no reason to assure the person of your own party being questioned that you are in their corner. My hope is that Trey keeps the proceedings free of this superfluous fluff.

One more reason the Democrats

Democrats are apprehensive about this year’s midterm elections. They should be. Every indicator points to Republican gains in Congress. Two reasons are well known: President Barack Obama’s unpopularity and the historical record of midterm elections, when the president’s party almost always loses seats. The third major reason is the two-four-six rule. Those are the different base years for different offices: two years for the House of Representatives, four years for most governors, six years for the Senate. These base years dictate how vulnerable each party is. Here’s how it works: House members last faced the voters two years ago, in 2012, when Obama won

For some time now, Elizabeth Foley and David Rivkin have had two questions about the 44th president: “How is he getting away with this? And why isn’t someone doing something about this?” Foley, a professor of constitutional law at Florida International University College of Law, and Rivkin, lead outside counsel of Florida et al. v. United States Department of Health and Human Services, one of three Obamacare challenges that ended up before the Supreme Court in 2012, are doing something. Hillary Clinton is spending her Fourth of July weekend visiting—where else?—the United Kingdom. Clinton has been doing a media tour across the pond, promoting her book against flagging sales. But she´s already gotten cries of "gaffe!" from some conservative media outlets and British commentators alike. In an interview with the BBC´s Woman´s Hour show, Clinton misidentifed the two largest political parties in the U.K. after being asked about the "special relationship" between the American and British governments. "It is so special to me, personally, and I think it is very special between our countries. There´s just a—not just a common language—but a common

Polls show that American Latinos have deeply ambivalent views about the 100,000-plus illegal immigrants flooding across the American border with Mexico. Lopsided majorities say they want tighter border security and lopsided majorities say they illegal immigrants to be accepted. “There are Hispanics who are conflicted, because they worry about the quality of life, immigrants coming into their neighborhoods [and] about their jobs,” said Ruben Navarette, a native Californian and a nationally syndicated columnist. “When the [political] water is calm and immigration is not a hot issue, you get Hispanics engaged in discussions saying ‘I worry about border security and jobs,’

It´s beach time, and you´ve probably already scanned a hundred lists of summer reads. Sadly overlooked is that other crucial literary category: the summer non-read, the book that you pick up, all full of ambition, at the beginning of June and put away, the bookmark now and forever halfway through chapter 1, on Labor Day. The classic of this genre is Stephen Hawking´s "A Brief History of Time," widely called "the most unread book of all time." How can we find today´s greatest non-reads? Amazon´s "Popular Highlights" feature provides one quick and dirty measure. Every book´s Kindle page lists the five

LOS ANGELES — For all the doomsday proclamations about the historic drought that has this state in a chokehold, here is what Californians have done to save water: not much. In five months since the drought emergency was declared, Californians have cut their water consumption only 5 percent compared with recent years, according to state officials — a far cry from the 20 percent that Gov. Jerry Brown called for in January. So, faced with apparent indifference to stern warnings from state leaders and media alarms, cities across California have encouraged residents to tattle on their neighbors for wasting water — and

Hillary Clinton says she’s “deeply disturbed” by the Supreme Court decision this week to uphold Hobby Lobby’s rights under the Religious Freedom Restoration Act. Basically, the former first lady, senator and secretary of state is saying the court is letting bosses who oppose contraception impose their religious views on employees. Of course, it does nothing of the kind. For one thing, Hobby Lobby has no objection to — and continues to pay for — 16 forms of birth control. It’s just one reason The Washington Post gave Hillary “Two Pinocchios” for her claims. It helps to remember that the 1993 law that determined

A THOUSAND years ago, the great cities of Baghdad, Damascus and Cairo took turns to race ahead of the Western world. Islam and innovation were twins. The various Arab caliphates were dynamic superpowers—beacons of learning, tolerance and trade. Yet today the Arabs are in a wretched state. Even as Asia, Latin America and Africa advance, the Middle East is held back by despotism and convulsed by war. Hopes soared three years ago, when a wave of unrest across the region led to the overthrow of four dictators—in Tunisia, Egypt, Libya and Yemen—and to a clamour for change elsewhere, notably in Syria.

Maybe we’ve been conned. There’s a growing recognition that Barack Obama is an incompetent poser, working out of his depth, and his administration is the gang that can’t shoot straight. President Obama has, except on fleeting occasions, routinely disdained the customary Oval Office language of compromise and coalition-building for the low arts of sophistry and belittlement. That was to be expected, given his background as a Chicago community organizer and product of that city´s corrupt Democrat political machine. But Obama has far exceeded dismal expectations. No previous American president employed the systematic distortion of fact and mendacious characterization of opponents that have typified Obama´s presidency. His "so sue me" speech last week is a classic illustration of the community organizer practicing Saul Alinsky´s 13th rule: “Pick the target, freeze it, personalize

The headline of today’s jobs report, that 288,000 jobs were created in the last month, is positive. At least, it is better than a poke in the eye with a sharp stick. However, as with most economic reports these days, there is a veneer of good news — but when you look closer, the White House is using the positive headlines to hide the growing deterioration of the American workforce. I’m sure by now people are tired of reading about the bad news, and I’ll admit I am weary of having to blow the whistle and expose the truth every
