Condoleezza Rice too privileged
to be role model for blacks:
Fox’s Bob Beckel

Washington Times, by Jessica Chasmar

Original Article

Posted By:KarenJ1, 5/21/2014 8:46:31 PM

Fox News’ Bob Beckel suggested Monday that Condoleezza Rice, the first female and first black secretary of state, is not a good icon for young black people because she didn’t grow up in the “ghetto.” Panelists on “The Five” discussed race relations in today’s America by contrasting an uplifting speech given by Ms. Rice at the 2012 Republican National Convention and Attorney General Eric Holder’s more dismal outlook in his commencement speech at Morgan State University on Saturday. Fox News’ Bob Beckel suggested Monday that Condoleezza Rice, the first female and first black secretary of state, is not a good icon

Comments:
Bob Beckel is obnoxious, odious and disgusting. I hope Fox realizes he is continually driving away people from that show. I turned on Fox before their show ended to see Special Report only to see Gutfeld discussing Bob Beckel´s colonoscopy report. I about puked. What on earth is the matter with the producers of that show??

Condi grew up in Birmingham during the civil rights struggle. With people like Bull Connor around that was probably worse than a lot of ghettoes. I wish Bull was still around only to take care of a piece of true scum like Beckel.

Sounds like Bob wants to hold blacks down by providing them with inferior role models. Who does he want for a black role model, Uncle Remus?

Obama is as far from being a child of the black inner city ghetto as one can get and he is regularly praised as a role model. On the other hand, Justice Clarence Thomas, whose roots are in the low contry gullah culture considered backwards even by many African Americans. is regularly demonized.

And I suppose having wealthy bank vice president grandparents, who sent Obama to Punahou private school in Hawaii doesn´t make him "privileged"?
Or higher education at Occidental, Columbia, or Harvard? Or never having had a real job, beyond being a community organizer?

Re #2: Yes. One of Condoleezza Rice´s childhood friends was killed in a KKK church bombing in Birmingham. Before she went into academia (before becoming involved in political affairs), she became a classical pianist, and could have maintained a career as a concert pianist. She is a lady of multiple talents, a most admirable person. Oh, and she is also a member of Augusta National Golf Club. I guess that qualifies her as privileged.

Bob Beckel is a toad stool species.

Beckle is a nasty piece of work!

Did anyone happen to hear him today on The Five?

Every time anyone said anything about the Communist Mulatto, Beckle started talking about Republican a congressman who frequented prostitutes, or the Republican [congressman [or senator, I don´t remember which] who did the foot tapping thing in the men´s bathroom.

It was really nasty, nasty. Beckel is a nasty man. Evil.

And it makes me think less and less of the rest of that bunch on The Five for remaining friends with the fat POS. I like that Eric guy --whoever he is, but he defends Beckel and talks about what a great guy he is.

Marxism trumps everything.

The ´Feminists´ love Bill Clinton, the rapist.

The Congressional Black Caucus demonizes Clarence Thomas and Condi Rice.

All is forgiven in advance for a Marxist.

While even great successes, if achieved by a conservative, are rejected due to ´bad motives´.

If this isn´t Hell it´s got to be Purgatory.

I´ve never heard of this Beckel creature, but oh what a maggot he is.

For his information, Condi did NOT grow up the child of privilege - she grew up middle class, her parents were schoolteachers. She learned classical music because in those days THAT´S WHAT THE MIDDLE CLASS DID! Much to the contemptuous disdain of the upper classes! They were seen as strivers and they´d never fit in, hard as they tried. Condi ignored the sniggers and went on to maek something of herself - first in the difficult discipline of classical music and then foreign affairs. She went to the University of Denver which is hardly an elite school and got a very good education and excelled. The whole idea that this was somehow privilege - even though Condi grew up in Jim Crow Alabama and endured actual terror attacks, seeing one of her playmates killed by a Klan bomb, makes her rise all the more remarkable. Privileged it was NOR - middle class and American it most certainly was.

Who is this Beckel creature again who´s spreading such ignorant muck?

Beckel´s real problem with Condi is her political orientation. If she was a Dem, he´d have no problem with her background, as those who have compared Obama´s privileged past have noted. And I thought someone who stereotypes blacks generally as "ghetto," etc. were, you know, racist. Oh wait - that´s only if you are like Condi - a Republican. Uncle Remus Beckel is ineligible for that charge.

There´s nothing unusual about Condi being Republican, given her background. Martin Luther King was also a Republican and most of the Tuskegee Airmen were Republicns as well. It is what middle class black people - who were only interested in being judged by the content of their character and not their color - were and many still are. The black orientation toward Republicans in these middle class communities dates back to Lincoln.

Whip cracking maggots like Bull Connor were full blown Democrats. Black people of middle class Birmingham knew full well it was a good idea to steer clear of such a party.

I agree with the above posters who think Beckel is a fool. He is ill-fitted for the program and is their "token" liberal. He always directs the conversation to his viewpoints on how he detests Repubs, Conservatives. They let him get away with his remarks because he even names names but the panel turns a deaf ear. The program is getting way too left for me. The conversation does get out of hand. Beckel spoils it for me.

What´s ridiculous about this whole conversation is that it is done in such a way that America is The Only country in the world in which racism exists. Entirely untrue - racism is everywhere - and it goes both ways! Racism has always existed. Which is no excuse for it to continue, but brow-beating and naval gazing won´t make one bit of difference.

What will make a different is for people to live self-respecting lives. And yet still, there will be people who hate Blacks, Jews, Native Americans, Germans, Italians, Poles, etc. -- no matter how hard we try there will always be haters in the world.

Utopia doesn´t exist, but it should be kept in our mind as to where we´d like to go.

Shut up, Jabba the brainless Hut. Since when do role models have to come from the ghetto?? Sure, it is nice to have a story like my dad´s who made his way out of West Oakland poverty, a minority kid working since he was 7 years old, joined army underaged to fight in WWII, found a sponsor who helped him to get his pre-medical education...unfortunately the sponsor died before he could go to med-school. But despite every setback and disadvantage he worked hard and made a good upper-middle class life for his family. It still takes hard work to make it even if you start off in the middle class or upper middle class. There are no guarantees in this life. Privilege is just a new manipulative buzzword for the left to use--just like the old "bourgeoisie" vs. "proletariat". Tell the old fat commie pig to go away...

President Obama’s defiant emphasis on executive action reveals a larger failure looming for his legacy: His inability to work with Republicans means that he’s unlikely to score even one significant legislative achievement over the final years of his presidency. Unless Democrats win back the House and hold onto the Senate in November, a scenario dismissed by most political analysts, Mr. Obama has said goodbye long ago to his biggest accomplishments in Congress. They occurred back in 2010, when Democrats controlled the House and Senate, and Mr. Obama signed into law Obamacare, the Dodd-Frank Wall Street reform act and a two-year extension

Conservative commentator Charles Krauthammer isn’t so sure Democratic Sen. Harry Reid is on his medication. Krauthammer speculated on Reid’s mental health on “Special Report with Bret Baier” Tuesday night. The panel, including Baier and Fox News contributor Mara Liasson, was discussing the influx of illegal immigrants — mostly women and children — flooding over the southern border. Liasson explained that President Obama has always said he “wanted the flexibility to treat kids from Central America the same as Mexico” but never explicitly asked Congress to change the Bush-era 2008 sex trafficking law. “He wanted Congress to go first,” she said.

The U.S. deported Honduran children as young as 1-1/2 years old on Monday in the first flight since President Obama pledged to speed up the process of sending back illegal immigrant minors from Central America. Fleeing violence and poverty, record numbers of children from Honduras, El Salvador and Guatemala have crossed into the United States over the past year, sparking intense debate about how to solve the problem. Monday´s flight from New Mexico to San Pedro Sula, the city with the highest murder rate in the world, returned 17 Honduran women, as well as 12 girls and nine boys, aged

The Obama administration quietly announced on Tuesday that it intends to change the way Americans learn about natural disasters and other major emergencies during radio and TV broadcasts, giving the president the ability to flip a switch and address the entire nation at once. The Emergency Alert System, the latest version of a program first established in 1951, blasts out emergency messages in the event of local weather emergencies, but can also be used to warn Americans about terror attacks and major natural disasters. [Snip] It can take up to 10 minutes for every radio, TV, cable and satellite provider to

In his message to the “Mexico/Holy See Colloquium on Migration and Development,” Pope Francis characterized the tens of thousands of illegal immigrants that have crossed the U.S. southern border as a product of globalization, suggesting that the phenomenon is happening worldwide. Francis proclaimed, “Despite the large influx of migrants present in all continents and in almost all countries, migration is still seen as an emergency, or as a circumstantial and sporadic fact, while instead it has now become a hallmark of our society and a challenge.” Emmer McCarthy for Vatican Radio said Francis expressed his concern for “the tens of thousands of

The First Lady of these United States has declared war on Chick-fil-A. It seems the home of plump juicy breasts and hot buttered buns has run afoul of the new Smart Snacks in School program. The program is a component of Mrs. Obama’s Healthy, Hunger-Free Kids Act of 2010. The new government regulations require snack items served in public schools to have less than two hundred calories. That includes vending machines, lunch rooms and other campus food venues. And that’s really bad news for kids at South Carolina’s Socastee High School. They’ve just learned they will no longer be allowed to buy Chick-fil-A

“Trust” is for Con Men: The reaction to the border chaos in Texas has accomplished one thing: It has exploded the lie at the heart of current “comprehensive” immigration reform plans. The basic structure of those plans is a swap of a) near-immediate legalization for b) increased border security in the future. The appealing idea is to let current illegals stay while taking the steps necessary to prevent further waves. The lie is the assumption that, once current illegals get their legalization, pro-immigrant activists in both parties will continue to support the second half of the bargain, the increased security. Contrary to what those who defend the right to own high-powered assault rifles believe, not all guns are created equal. Due to a combination of availability, portability and criminal usage the following five types of guns are the country's most dangerous. School Shootings: Widely Reported Tragedies Since 2000 - Using firearm trace data from the ATF, as well as FBI homicide records, we determined the types of guns most often recovered from crime scenes and/or used in murders. The numbers are stark: According to the FBI's 2012 Crime in the US data, nearly 70 percent of homicides for which the FBI received weapons data involved the use

It had to come sometime, and it came in one very bad week for the Democrats: that the many big problems with Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama finally grew too great for the press to ignore. Obama in his own different way is heading towards Nixon-like levels of weirdness, as, beaten down by the failures regarding his ventures, he appears to have quit his own job. A.B. Stoddard of the Hill says in effect he has stopped being president and chooses to live in a world of his own, shutting out the problems that have become overwhelming, giving dinners where he talks

Senate Budget Committee ranking member Sen. Jeff Sessions (R-AL) has warned all of his colleagues in Congress that President Barack Obama’s new immigration strategy—his plans to legalize millions of illegal alien adults through executive power—could destroy America as we know it. “I write to inform you of a development that threatens the foundation of our constitutional Republic,” Sessions, Congress’s top immigration hawk, wrote in a letter that was hand-delivered to all 535 members of Congress on Monday and provided exclusively to Breitbart News. Sessions cites a recent report from the National Journal, in which reporter Major Garrett detailed how, despite the ongoing

Attorney General Eric Holder encouraged Americans not to forget race while working for justice and equality in their country. “As it stands, our society is not yet color blind -- nor should it be -- given the disparities that still afflict and divide us.” Holder explained, “We must be color brave, and we must never forget that all are made better and more prosperous if all are given equal opportunities.” Holder made his remarks during a speech at Howard University on Tuesday for the 50th Anniversary Celebration of the Civil Rights Act. “We must take into account not only the

WASHINGTON — It was an enduring image of his presidency: a chastened Bill Clinton walking his dog while wife Hillary keeps her distance as the family leaves town at the height of the Monica Lewinsky scandal — but it was all part of a contrived public-repentance campaign, according to a new book. With Bill on the skids and his wife’s future prospects on the line, it was necessary for the pubic to see the president being punished, said Weekly Standard online editor Daniel Halper in his new book, “Clinton, Inc.: The Audacious Rebuilding of a Political Machine.” “They understood that

John McCain, an immigration hawk. Who knew? Mr. McCain, the highest-profile Republican of the U.S. Senate’s “Gang of Eight” that came up with amnesty as the solution to the immigration crisis — and it truly is a crisis — is finally taking a hard line against President Obama for his encouraging the tidal wave of illegal aliens swamping the southwestern border. “There has to be a halt to this,” Mr. McCain thundered Sunday on CNN. “That’s what we want, and the best way to do that is for planeloads of these young people to be returning to their country of origin
