´Dark elf´ explains drug-fueled sword

New York Daily News, by Nicole Hensley

The drugged-up elf who attacked a shape-shifting car in Portland, Ore., last week admits he lost the battle to a Dark Lord of Middle Earth. From a hospital in Beaverton, Ore., Konrad Bass, who also uses the last name McKane, told Vocativ magazine: "Morgoth got the best of me." The 30-year-old is not letting his psychiatric evaluation --- or arrest --- stop him from sharing the tale of his drug-induced journey that began as he strapped on his leather armor and chain mail and slapped on a new pair of elf ears for an evening of adventure. He brought his

Yep, just another typical day in Portland, that sprawling open-air loony asylum where it´s always the attendants´ day off. I lived there briefly in the 70´s; even then, it was becoming a Mecca for everyone from the merely odd to the profoundly disturbed.

Just keeping true to the motto of Portland, our little sad elf is.

On the other hand, one of my favorite shows, Grimm is filmed in Portland. Makes sense if you think about it.

George Herman “Babe” Ruth played his first Major League Baseball game 100 years ago Friday, marking the beginning of a legendary career and legacy that lasted decades. One hundred years after Ruth took to the Fenway Park mound and tossed seven innings against the Cleveland Naps, he is still known to any Pee Wee league player trying to break in a glove today as simply, "The Babe." Ruth, who was 19 and, according to one teammate, looked like a "big overgrown pea" at the start of the game, went on to play for 22 years, 15 of those with the

Along with piteous pictures of children flooding across our borders and being distributed across the country courtesy of US taxpayers come disease vectors. Maybe flying them around to various parts of the country isn’t the smartest idea. NBC News reports: A border patrol agent was diagnosed with scabies after processing undocumented immigrants in Otay Mesa, California, the agent´s union representative said. Ronald Zermeno, health and safety director for the National Border Control Council union, said the agent told him that he observed several people with open sores while screening them in preparation to be released to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

When the “Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act” passed, the end of doctor-patient confidentiality was predictable -- but we could not have expected it to happen this soon. ObamaCare, with the aid of hospitals, insurers, banks, and private data managers, is initiating a program to track store and credit card purchases to see if people are telling the truth about their lifestyle choices. Some troubling realities have been revealed in a recent Bloomberg article. First, the idea that the hospitals, at government direction, are doing it for our own good so it’s okay. FARMINGTON — New Mexico drivers will be prohibited from using cellphones to send or view text messages while driving when a new law to prevent distracted driving goes into effect on Tuesday. In March, Gov. Susana Martinez signed Senate Bill 19, which penalizes drivers for texting while their vehicles are in motion. The bill becomes law on Tuesday. Drivers cited for texting while driving face a $25 fine for the first violation and $50 for subsequent violations. The law states a person shall not read or view a text or manually type on a mobile communication device for any purpose

Of the many stunning revelations to emerge out of the wreckage of Mosul on Wednesday — 500,000 fleeing residents, thousands of freed prisoners, unconfirmed reports of “mass beheadings” — the one that may have the most lasting impact as Iraq descends into a possible civil war is that the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria just got extremely rich. As insurgents rolled past Iraq’s second largest city, an oil hub at the vital intersection of Syria, Iraq and Turkey, and into Tikrit, several gunmen stopped at Mosul’s central bank. An incredible amount of cash was reportedly on hand, and the

The BBC reported that Father Jamie MacLeod found Anthony Van Dyck’s Flemish Baroque work 12 years ago in a Cheshire antique shop. It was only after he took it to TV program “Antiques Roadshow” that he was told it could be worth a small fortune. Father MacLeod, who runs a retreat in the Peak District, told the BBC he was "not being greedy" by selling the painting.

The evidence is clear that Eric Holder and his political subordinates have politicized the Justice Department to an unprecedented degree — “worse than John Mitchell under Richard Nixon” one former Justice Department lawyer told the authors. This is quite a criticism given that many DOJ veterans believe that the Department reached its nadir under Mitchell. But Mitchell seems like an amateur by comparison to how Holder has corrupted the law enforcement duties of the Justice Department to carry out the political objectives of Barack Obama and to implement his radical ideology.

"The fact is," Farmington City Manager Rob Mayes said, "our costs have gone up for providing healthcare for our employees." President Barack Obama´s administration championed the Affordable Health Care Act, known as Obamacare, and it was passed in March 2010. On April 1, the U.S. economy dropped a whopping 2.9 percent for the first three months of the year (no fooling). The American workforce participation rate fell to a 40-year low. One-third of people aged 18-29 have moved back in with their parents. Where is the red line of impeachment? In theory, a red line might be located somewhere on a list of impeachable offenses – perhaps at the point where a certain number of transgressions is exceeded, or next to a specific instance because of its significance or impact. In reality, though, that red line exists along a spectrum of “political will.” As Andrew McCarthy explained: “You can have a thousand provable impeachable offenses, but before Congress may remove the president from power, there must be strong popular support – a public will that cuts across partisan and ideological lines.”
