Ebay security breach: Is any website

Telegraph [UK], by Willard Foxton

Ebay have just put out a message, informing all 128 million users that their passwords and data may have been leaked and should be changed as soon as possible, due to a cyber attack. [Snip] The data that has leaked is very valuable though--despite Ebay´s denials that "no confidential information" got out, they accept that "basic login information"--things like your name, address, email address, phone number and date of birth was in the breached database. You have to ask, what´s not "confidential information" in that list? I mean, the hackers don´t have my inside leg measurement, but that´s about it.

How many people in Europe, America and Asia knew the name of Boko Haram before Michelle Obama’s tweet, and the now famous “Bring back our girls” campaign? For the last two years, Boko Haram has been struggling to sustain its insurgency. It had been put under increasing pressure by the Nigerian armed forces to the point where it was clear that it could never achieve victory over the Nigerian state. Yet now it is a world brand and its latest venture into hostage-taking has seriously destabilised the Nigerian government. The main objective of the kidnapping has been for Boko Haram

Drivers of America, you´ve been warned. This summer, one of the first daughters will be out on the road. [Snip] When talking about her daughters´ summer plans, first lady Michelle Obama told Access Hollywood: ´One child is going to be driving this summer. Look out everyone!´ Chelsea Clinton was the last teen to learn how to drive in the White House, and it was dad Bill Clinton who sat in the passenger seat for lessons. Then-first lady Hillary Clinton called the lessons ´scary´ since her husband had been using a chauffeur for the 12 years prior.

Thanksgiving at the Margolies house is going to be awkward this year. Marjorie Margolies, a former congresswoman and mother-in-law to former first daughter Chelsea Clinton, crashed and burned in a bid to return to the House of Representatives on Tuesday, losing her Democratic primary in a landslide. Her epic Pennsylvania loss to state Rep. Brendan Boyle came despite campaign fundraising appearances by both Bill and Hillary Clinton, who couldn´t push her above a 27 percent showing in a four-way race. Margolies has courted controversy since 1993 when, in her first and only term in Congress, she cast the deciding vote in favor of

House Democrats have decided to play ball and participate in a special committee charged with investigating the Obama administration´s handling of a 2012 terror attack in Benghazi, Libya that left four Americans dead and forced the withdrawal of U.S. diplomats from the eastern port city. House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi named five Democrats to the panel: Elijah Cummings of Maryland, Adam Smith of Washington, Adam Schiff of California, Linda Sánchez of California and Tammy Duckworth of Illinois. Some in the Democratic caucus had floated the idea of boycotting the committee and leaving Republicans to pursue the Benghazi investigation, opening the opportunity to

Nick Clegg has defended the Prince of Wales over his comparison of Vladimir Putin to Adolf Hitler, saying the heir to the throne is ´entitled to his views´ despite warnings from a Russian newspaper the remarks could “trigger an international scandal”. The Prince caused controversy when he told a woman in Canada that the Russian president "is doing just about the same as Hitler" in annexing Crimea in the Ukraine. Popular Russian daily paper Moskovskij Komsomolets (MK) said the comment risked complicating already "not unclouded" UK-Russian relations. UKIP leader Nigel Farage has got himself into a pickle over the "R-word". [Snip] Farage quoted statistics from London´s Metropolitan Police saying that 92 percent of all ATM crime in London is committed by Romanians, and that last year 28,000 Romanians were arrested by the London police force. He added that 240 Romanian gangs caused seven percent of all crime across the European Union. But the facts were no defence. At the Daily Beast, Eli Lake is reporting that more than 100 Americans are fighting in Syria. This US assessment chimes with the belief of EU intelligence services that hundreds of Europeans are also in Syria. Indeed, "terrorist-tourism" is an increasingly acute concern of British Intelligence. The growing fear? That these "tourists" will soon return home with the means and intention to conduct atrocities. This fear is well placed. After all, one of the key organisations welcoming these "tourists" is the Islamic State of Iraq and al-Sham (ISIS). Birthed during the Iraq war as "al-Qaeda in Iraq", ISIS has since morphed

More than 1,000 dog deaths may now be linked to toxic jerky treats, the majority of which were imported from China and contain chicken, duck or sweet potato, according to a recent update from the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). The agency said that since 2007, there have been almost 5,000 complaints of pet illnesses related to the treats. The majority of the symptoms reported include gastrointestinal or liver disease, and about a third were linked to kidney and urinary disease. About 10 percent of the illnesses included other signs such as neurologic, dermatologic, and immunologic symptoms, and about 15

Karl Rove created a stir with his recent suggestion that former Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton may have suffered traumatic brain injury in December 2012. Speaking at a conference in California, he noted, “Thirty days in the hospital? And when she reappears, she’s wearing glasses that are only for people who have traumatic brain injury? We need to know what’s up with that.” Let’s ignore the media hyperventilating and look at what Rove actually suggested. According to the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke, traumatic brain injury, or TBI, “occurs when a sudden trauma causes damage to the brain.” Secretary Clinton reportedly

President Obama declared his outrage at allegations of misconduct at VA hospitals at a Wednesday press conference after an Oval Office meeting with Veterans Affairs Secretary Eric Shinseki. "I will not stand for it — not as commander in chief, but also not as an American,” he told reporters as furor grows over allegations of treatment delays and preventable deaths at the health care facilities. The VA Inspector General’s office said late Tuesday that 26 facilities are being investigated nationwide — up from 10 just last week — including a Phoenix hospital where 40 veterans allegedly died while waiting for treatment and

President Barack Obama first learned of the scandal involving Department of Veterans Affairs hospital administrators concealing the true wait times vets faced in the press, according to a claim made by White House Press Sec. Jay Carney on Monday. While the president may have not been aware of the falsified wait lists, however, reports indicate that his administration was informed of excessive wait times at the VA as early as 2008. Obama even campaigned on the issue of VA waiting lists in 2007. “When was the president first made aware of these problems?” CNN reporter Jim Acosta asked. “These fraudulent

A terrible sort of insanity has gripped the Democratic Party. On almost a daily basis, when you see the party’s leaders in action, you want to start edging toward the door, murmuring “Nice doggie. Nice doggie.” Today it was Howard Dean (filmed a week ago, but seen on YouTube today). He was addressing a Democratic crowd in Colorado, and went off on a tirade against Republicans. Yes, he really did say that Republicans aren’t American. And that they should stay away from the United States, and go to Russia where they belong. One gets the feeling that if the Democrats

Republicans’ hopes of winning back the Senate received a big boost in primary elections Tuesday, with Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (Ky.) easily winning and other candidates favored by the party establishment beating back tea party challengers. After years of intraparty turmoil that cost Republicans key races, voters this year are coalescing around the GOP’s strongest candidates ahead of November’s general election, when control of the Senate during President Obama’s final two years in office will be up for grabs. On Tuesday, the most consequential day of voting so far this year, Democrats were left disappointed. GOP Senate candidates prone to

Time after time, President Obama has reportedly learned of a number of big administration scandals in the media, from the IRS to Fast & Furious and now the VA scandal over wait times and veterans dying before receiving proper treatment (Jay Carney said today the president learned about this scandal through media reports). All this apparent unawareness before the fact led Charles Krauthammer to argue on Special Report today that Obama acts like he “stumbled upon the presidency” only to be shocked by how much wrong there really is. He lightly mocked the idea that Obama is “madder than hell”

With the latest Benghazi! ™ extravaganza about to begin, the Democrats are faced with a dilemma. Should they boycott the silly hearings, thus leaving the Republicans to put on their pageant unimpeded, or should they join in with a full panel and add legitimacy to the process?
