Drivers of America, you´ve been warned. This summer, one of the first daughters will be out on the road. [Snip] When talking about her daughters´ summer plans, first lady Michelle Obama told Access Hollywood: ´One child is going to be driving this summer. Look out everyone!´ Chelsea Clinton was the last teen to learn how to drive in the White House, and it was dad Bill Clinton who sat in the passenger seat for lessons. Then-first lady Hillary Clinton called the lessons ´scary´ since her husband had been using a chauffeur for the 12 years prior.

Hmmm. More taxpayer dollars going out on family stuff. Oh, just add it to the bill, it won´t be noticed among all the other perks we pay for.

Dolly Parton, the 68-year old grande dame of country who stole the hearts of the 120,000 strong crowd at the mother of all rock festivals--Glastonbury--has denied that her performance involved any lip-syncing. "My boobs are fake, my hair´s fake but what is real is my voice and my heart," she told the Sun newspaper in response to suggestions that her vocals were mimed. [Snip] “This should not overshadow what was truly a great gig and accomplished performance. Dolly adored every single moment.” Check out the footage of her performance of Jolene and decide for yourself.

The Levant, the region running inland from the eastern seaboard of the Mediterranean, has been fought over for millennia. Its vital trade and military roads linking Anatolia to north Africa and Arabia have been guarded and coveted since time immemorial. Control is everything, as Moses found out to his cost when he wanted to move north up the ancient King´s Highway out of the Sinai and into Edom (modern day southern Israel): "Now let us pass through your land. We will not pass through field or vineyard, or drink water from any well; we will go along the King’s Highway,

The number of suspected and confirmed cases of chikungunya virus in Caribbean countries has risen sharply over past weeks, health officials say. Tens of thousands of new cases have been reported in the Dominican Republic and its neighbour, Haiti. There is currently no vaccine or treatment for the mosquito-born virus which resembles dengue fever and can cause fever, skin rash and joint pain. European health authorities have warned travellers to take extra precautions. Avoid bites. The European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control told people travelling to the Caribbean to apply insect repellent and avoid mosquito bites.

In a grotesque parody of a ceremony of a nation state, yesterday the European Parliament opened the new session of the assembly with a flag-raising carried out by soldiers of the Eurocorps – sometimes known as the Eurokorps--a 1,000-strong embryo EU army. Eight soldiers marched carrying a giant EU flag, which was raised to a military salute. A military band played what the EU elite want people to believe is “Europe’s national anthem,” but which in fact has no legal standing as an anthem and is merely a theme tune borrowed from Beethoven’s 9th symphony. Once it was raised, the EU

Triumphant UKIP leader Nigel Farage has given EU leaders yet another scolding in the European Parliament today as MEPs took their seats for the first time since the European Elections last month that saw a wave of anti-EU candidates elected. Speaking directly to the unaccountable Euro-elite, Farage lambasted them over Britain´s place in the union, likening them to old Communists, and noting that no one had responded in the slightest to the anti-establishment sentiment coursing through Europe.
