VA Spending Per Patient
Exploded Amid Deadly Delays

Investor´s Business Daily, by John Merline

Original Article

As soon as the mushrooming scandal at the Veterans Affairs Department erupted, blame focused on budget shortfalls for chronic delays in treatment. Several VA hospitals have been accused of falsifying records to cover up delays in treating patients in desperate need. In Phoenix, as many as 40 veterans may have died as a result. Sen. Jay Rockefeller, D-W.Va., argued that the main cause of the delays is money: "If the VA does not have enough doctors to see these patients, then these problems are a result of a lack of funding." [snip] It sounds good. And it would seem to

If doctors are paid a set salary as opposed to being paid for patients seen, there is no reason whatsoever for them to work harder or see more patients.
Also, by hiding a backlog of patients, the administrators stand to get large bonuses while Vets and taxpayers get the bone.

Don´t blame the docs. Many are part-timers and none getting rich off their salaries. The system sucks and the bi-partisan small-p politics is at the heart. You may see a hospital. Now, imagine what a politician sees.

ObamaCare Enrollment
Numbers Unreliable, Audit Finds
Investor´s Business Daily, by John Merline    Original Article

Buried in a largely overlooked government audit of the Obama-Care exchanges is a finding that casts still more doubt on the reliability of the 8 million enrollment number commonly cited by the administration and the press. In a section titled "Other Issues," an inspector general report released last week found that the HealthCare.gov marketplace couldn´t show it had been reconciling its monthly enrollment numbers with insurance companies. That´s despite the fact that the law specifically calls for this reconciliation, and the fact that, as the IG report notes, "the federal marketplace obtained the services of a contractor to reconcile enrollment

Bias: You´d think that a government audit showing how ObamaCare couldn´t tell whether millions of enrollees were eligible for the subsidies they´re getting would be front-page news. Instead, the press hid it from view. If you wanted to read in the New York Times about these findings — which detailed rampant problems verifying eligibility and income information from millions of ObamaCare applicants — you had to dig 17 pages into the news section. In the Washington Post, the story was on page 11, after stop-the-press-stories like a change in House travel reporting rules and a puff piece on the new VA administrator.

Government Audits Reveal
Vast ObamaCare Failures

Accountability: Two new audits reveal failures in ObamaCare on a scale even we didn´t think possible, with unresolved discrepancies, rules violations and technology problems that expose taxpayers to massive overpayments. In the first of a series of ObamaCare audits, the Health and Human Services inspector general found 2.9 million "inconsistencies" in applications submitted to the federal HealthCare.gov exchange in the first five months of open enrollment. In other words, the Social Security numbers, income, family size, citizenship or other information applicants provided didn´t match existing government data. Some 1.3 million of the problems involved citizenship, and an additional million involved income, the

Enrollment: ObamaCare loyalists are trumpeting a new Kaiser Family Foundation survey finding that more than half of those who enrolled had been uninsured. But the survey´s findings are nothing to cheer about. First, nobody knows exactly how many ObamaCare enrollees were previously uninsured, because the administration didn´t bother to ask for that information when people signed up. So it´s been up to pollsters to figure out what happened, and previous surveys showed that only a small percentage of ObamaCare sign-ups came from the ranks of the uninsured. The new Kaiser survey, in contrast, found that 57% of those getting coverage through an

The total number of Americans now on the Social Security Disability Insurance program topped 11 million in May, a record high and an increase of 18% since January 2009, according to new data from the Social Security administration, furthering a trend that will have severe economic and budget consequences. More than 5.2 million workers have enrolled in the program since President Obama took office, and enrollment is climbing faster under Obama than at any time in the program´s history. An average 81,000 workers joined the Social Security Disability Program each month during Obama´s years. Under President Bush, by contrast, monthly enrollment

Dems Face Hard Choices After

Elections: If Hillary Clinton´s much ballyhooed — and ultimately disastrous — national book tour is any indication, Democrats face some hard choices in the months ahead about whom they can run for president. You can´t blame Clinton for scheduling her "Hillary Week" at a time when there was so much real news going on. But she certainly deserves blame for the fact that the only coverage she managed to get from her book tour was all bad. Even before her tour got started, reviewers — many of whom you´d expect to be cheerleading for Hillary — were instead viciously hammering her book,

Evidence of Republicans´ shift to the far right is supposed to be found in the defeat of House Majority Leader Eric Cantor, which prompted the New York Times to editorialize that "In GOP, Far Right Is Too Moderate." Waste: Lawmakers have learned that ObamaCare could end up overpaying insurance subsidies by as much as $152 billion. That´s more than the deficit cut Washington once promised ObamaCare would produce. Former Congressional Budget Office director Douglas Holtz-Eakin on Tuesday told members of the House Ways and Means subcommittee on health that ObamaCare would likely result in huge overpayments. To make his case, Holtz-Eakin pointed to the Earned Income Tax Credit, a program that works somewhat like ObamaCare in that it hands out refundable tax credits based on income. Ineptitude: Millions of people could be in for a rude surprise later this year when they discover they aren´t eligible for ObamaCare, or are getting too big a subsidy, thanks to another failed ObamaCare promise. In early September, administration officials declared that the ObamaCare "data hub" was ready to roll. This hub was central to making ObamaCare work, since it was supposed to verify citizenship, income and other information needed to determine eligibility and the level of insurance subsidies available. More important, it was all supposed to happen in real time, right when people were filling out their online application forms. Kathleen Sebelius,

Almost none of the uninsured will end up paying the ObamaCare mandate penalty, according to an updated analysis by the Congressional Budget Office, which found that 87% will be able to claim an exemption. That exemption rate is higher than the CBO had previously thought, which not only blows a hole in its budget forecast for the law, but also increases the odds of an insurance industry "death spiral." According to the CBO´s latest estimate, out of the 30 million people who will still be uninsured in 2016, just 4 million will end up paying any tax penalty, despite the law´s requirement

The White House on Tuesday formally requested $3.7 billion in emergency funding from Congress to deal with an influx of Central American minors along the southern border. But the proposal was quickly met with broad skepticism among Republican lawmakers, who were doubtful that the package would be approved quickly — if at all. Administration officials said the request is part of a comprehensive strategy aimed at building more detention centers, adding immigration judges, and beefing up border patrols and air surveillance. President Obama has said he hopes such steps will both speed deportations and discourage adults from sending children on

Sarah Palin on Tuesday joined a growing chorus of Republicans calling for the impeachment of President Obama, writing in a Breitbart op-ed that the influx of young illegal immigrants over the southern border "is the last straw that makes the battered wife say, ´no mas.´ " Mixed/careless metaphors aside, this is nothing but bad news for Republicans — especially four months until the 2014 election. Starting next week, House Republicans will launch a highly visible—and likely tumultuous—three-week process of bringing to the floor legislation to authorize their promised lawsuit against President Obama over his use of executive actions. "In theory, you could report out a resolution tomorrow and vote on it," said a House GOP aide on Tuesday. "But that is not the approach [the leaders] want to take." Rather, the aim is to display—if not actually engage in—a more deliberative process, even if amid controversy. This drawn-out script builds toward a potentially dramatic floor vote held just days, or even hours, before the House adjourns on

Enough is enough of the years of abuse from this president. His unsecured border crisis is the last straw that makes the battered wife say, “no mas.” Without borders, there is no nation. Obama knows this. Opening our borders to a flood of illegal immigrants is deliberate. This is his fundamental transformation of America. It’s the only promise he has kept. Discrediting the price paid for America’s exceptionalism over our history, he’s given false hope and taxpayer’s change to millions of foreign nationals who want to sneak into our country illegally. WASHINGTON — Congressional Democrats said Tuesday that they had developed legislation to override the Supreme Court decision on contraceptives. The bill would ensure that women have access to coverage for birth control even if they work for businesses that have religious objections. The bill, developed in consultation with the Obama administration, would require for-profit corporations like Hobby Lobby Stores to provide and pay for contraceptive coverage, along with other preventive services, under the Affordable Care Act. The measure could be on the Senate floor as early as next week, Senate Democrats said. “Your health care decisions are not your boss’s

Fate hasn´t been kind to Hillary Clinton, at least not in its most recent phase. In 2008, when the plate was set for the national Democrats, she lost the nomination to Barack Obama, of scant years and no gravitas, who soared out of nowhere to wrench destiny from her on the unspecified promise of "change." Now, "change" has come, and people don´t like it. Iraq changed from a safe, stable ally (just ask Obama) to a terrorist haven, one of the reasons why, though no fellow Democrats seem likely to edge her, her chances of winning the White House seem dim.
