Mitch McConnell Wins Republican Primary
Despite Opposition From Conservatives

Daily Caller, by Alex Pappas

Original Article

Despite opposition from conservative groups, Senate minority leader Mitch McConnell handily defeated Republican businessman Matt Bevin in Kentucky’s Republican primary on Tuesday. McConnell’s victory sets him up for a November showdown with Democrat Alison Lundergan Grimes, the Secretary of State in Kentucky whose father was once state Democratic Party chairman. McConnell’s triumph over Bevin was not much of a surprise: Prior to Tuesday’s vote, the Real Clear Politics polling average indicated that McConnell was leading Bevin by 26 points. Over the last ten months, a number of national conservative groups endorsed Bevin, including FreedomWorks, the Senate Conservatives Fund and the Madison Project. A sign

The primary was the easy part, the general against Grimes will be tougher.

FTA: "...McConnell HANDILY defeated Republican businessman Matt Bevin..."

NOT.............

McConell spent $9 million to defeat Bevin
Bevin spent $3.3 million to defeat McConnell

Would be interesting to see who would win if both men spent the same amount of monies in the primary.

Rand Paul gave his endoresement to McConnell....just another sell out to those who hate his guts...

Rand is running, and I will not support someone who supports the high spending and stupid sell out of the grass roots like the sleazy McConnelll.

Guess too many constituents with their hands out voted for this idiot leading a march to oblivion...

For the last year McConnell pounded Matt Bevin with the most scurrilous, mendacious campaign spending as one poster quoted $9 million to defeat his opponent. Now...let´s see if he turns the same loud, dirty politics against the Democrat. I doubt it because Republicans like Mitch don´t fight Democrats as hard as they fight conservatives.

Mitch has quite a few fences to mend.

Is there anyone here who supported Bevin that actually believes he could have won in November??? When Mitch McConnell wins re-election, then it will be time to name a NEW MAJORITY leader in the Senate. I cannot for the life of me understand why all the negative cracks by "conservatives" against "conservatives". Can´t we take a breath and be the "big tent" party any longer? There are times I envy the loyalty of democrats to THEIR party. At least they want to WIN. Congratulations to Senator Mitch McConnell! There, I said it!

The 2014 primary was won in 2012 when Rand Paul blessed his family´s campaign guru joining McConnell´s campaign, and said tea partiers would like McConnell. In 2013 Rand formally endorsed McConnell and said he wouldn´t support a TP challenge, thus ending chances for serious opposition. Rand Paul is the author of ´The Tea Party goes to Washington.´ Rand Paul is the biggest sell out in the history of politics. Too bad Andrew Breitbart worked himself to death for nothing.

If you don´t think the message of limited government means less of unprincipled entrenched hacks like Mitch or we can blow up ACA and start over is a winner, then certainly, a candidate like Bevings would have no chance in the November.

The necessary reforms to bring this country back to its preObama greatness will not come from a Senate run by the the Mitch and Elaine show.

Perhaps the big tent speech should be saved for someone who is a little less contemptuous of the populist conservatives.

I already suspect Democrats of taking advantage of electronic voting to change elections to win - especially in close races.

I expect they could branch out to help to elect those challengers they want to run against, or in whom they have common interests. Just because they aren´t as obvious as a Kim Jung Un or a Putin, doesn´t mean they aren´t doing it.

As it currently stands, we are a nation in slavery, the debt is our collar and the laws and regulations of the elite the whip that lashes us when we dare to step out of line.

Refute me if you can.

I keep reading how frustrated Harry Reid is because his agenda is "stymied" in the Senate. Now, who would be leading that challenge? Would it be Mitch McConnell, Senate Minority Leader? Yes, I think so. Perhaps Senator McConnell should be granted just a bit of credit for frustrating the increasingly demented majority leader.

I wonder if anyone is going to address poster #5´s opening question.

IMO what needs to be understood is that the Republican party will never become a precise ideological counterweight to the leftist Dems. Any GOP majority will necessarily be a hodge-podge of conservatives and so-called moderates. This just reflects demographic reality and the other side´s ability to mold the culture and control the mainstream media. Taking the countr bacto be a very long-term project.

We have all learned over the years that an incumbent seldom fails to win reelection. A long term Senator, particularly in a top leadership position almost never loses.

To those who believe Democrat Alison Lundergan Grimes can beat Mitch McConnell: good luck with that. The only possibility would be for the people of Kentucky to listen to evil, hate filled pundits that hate the state, and hate the people of, Kentucky.

Remember this. No Democrat ever wants what is best for the people. Every Democrat wants what is best for himself, and what will enable the Democrat party to control the people.

Hillary Clinton continued to justify her high-dollar speaking fees on Friday, telling ABC News’ Ann Compton that all of the money she’s made from colleges over the past year and a half has been donated to her family’s foundation. “All of the fees have been donated to the Clinton Foundation for it to continue its life-changing and life-saving work. So it goes from a foundation at a university to another foundation,” Clinton said when asked about the criticism she and her husband have faced recently for their wealth. Patience and reliability are the defining characteristics of successful leadership in the Senate. Good Senate majority leaders work through the rules of the Senate, which protect minority rights, to find a way to please a majority (or possibly a supermajority) of senators and move legislation and nominations to passage. They keep their commitments to open debate, even when their partisan colleagues would prefer to use simple majority power to crush the minority and avoid tough votes or compromises. The Senate once prided itself on being “the world’s greatest deliberative body.” That it no longer is. According to the Congressional Research Service,

WAIANAE, Hawaii — For over 50 years, Senator Daniel K. Inouye, a Democrat, was the closest thing modern-day Hawaii had to political royalty: He began representing the state in Washington two years before its most famous citizen was even born. As he lay dying in 2012, Mr. Inouye asked the governor, Neil Abercrombie, to appoint Representative Colleen Hanabusa, a protégée and the daughter of a gas station owner here, to fill his seat. But Mr. Abercrombie, a fellow Democrat, disregarded that deathbed request, choosing his lieutenant governor, Brian Schatz, as the interim senator instead.
