LOUISVILLE, Ky.— Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell has defeated millionaire businessman Matt Bevin in an expensive and bruising primary election in Kentucky. He´ll face Secretary of State Alison Lundergan Grimes in the fall as he pursues his sixth term. McConnell has been one of President Barack Obama´s fiercest critics, but Bevin accused the longtime senator of not being conservative enough. Bevin spent $3.3 million in his bid as a political newcomer backed by various tea party groups. McConnell drowned him out with more than $9 million in spending. Outside groups spent millions more defending his conservative credentials. McConnell had already

House Oversight and Government Reform Committee Chairman Darrell Issa (R-Calif.) subpoenaed the Department of Justice today for documents after the DOJ’s Election Crimes Branch director, Richard Pilger, refused to answer critical questions 34 times, as advised by a DOJ lawyer, about the IRS-Tea Party scandal. “The Department’s refusal to allow Mr. Pilger to testify about matters highly relevant to the Committee’s investigation unnecessarily delays and frustrates the Committee’s Constitutional oversight obligations,” said Chairman Issa in a letter sent with the subpoena. “The Department’s obstruction in this regard, coupled with its failure to produce any relevant material to date

Facing a respectful if at times skeptical panel as he promoted his just-released book, One Nation, on ABC´s The View today, world-renowned neurosurgeon Dr. Ben Carson described his prescription for fixing health care in America, which revolves around market-oriented changes which empower consumers rather than bureaucrats. Asked about his presidential aspirations, Carson made clear he doesn´t desire to seek office and hoped a solidly conservative candidate would enter the race, but, failing that, "as a patriotic American, I certainly have to think about" running. Carson received a rousing round of applause from the audience after his brief appearance, which you

After more than five years in office, President Obama still can’t throw a baseball like a normal adult male, a Free Beacon analysis has found.(Photo) Obama’s lack of basic motor skills was on display Monday evening at a Little League game in Washington, D.C. He looked like he was trying to shot put a hacky sack, or something. The Little Leaguers were not impressed, the Associated Press reports: Shocked parents reached for their smartphones to snap a quick photo, but not all of their kids were as impressed. Some held back, unsure of who Obama was, as their parents tried to lure them back onto the infield to join the president.

The White House will be “picking up the pace on executive actions,” as Congress focuses its efforts on the newly formed select committee investigating Benghazi, senior Obama adviser Dan Pfeiffer declared Tuesday. In an op-ed for The Huffington Post, Pfeiffer argued that congressional Republicans are not interested in engaging on the economy, instead spending time “obsessively trying to repeal the Affordable Care Act” and “ginning up politically motivated investigations.” “Given this dynamic, President Obama has only one option — use every ounce of his authority to unilaterally improve economic security,” Pfeiffer said. “Next week, as congressional Republicans spend their energy

Conservative author and filmmaker Dinesh D’Souza pleaded guilty Tuesday to funneling $20,000 in illegal campaign contributions to a Republican New York candidate for U.S. Senate, in a case that had drawn criticisms of political targeting. Reports WSJ’s Christopher M. Matthews: Mr. D’Souza had pleaded not guilty in January, saying at the time he didn’t dispute the facts but disagreed with prosecutors’ assessment he had violated federal election laws. He had also argued he was being targeted by the Justice Department for being a Republican. He reversed that position Tuesday, saying in court that he knew what he did was wrong.

It may seem like political correctness has been on a steady rise on college campuses with no sign of reversing course, but one college is about to buck the trend. University of South Carolina Upstate is closing their Center for Women and Gender Studies (CWGS) this summer and instead allocating the money for a program to teach the principles and provisions of the Declaration of Independence, the Constitution, and the Federalist Papers. According to the study, commissioned by the university, the library would create 1,900 permanent new jobs. In addition, the report said, construction of the library would have a $600 million economic impact on the city and create 3,280 local jobs over the course of the construction period. The problem seems to be that whether they like it or not, these hearings are going to be covered. And if the press reaction so far tells us anything, they are looking for a show.
