No Fluke: Anita Hill was one of the

Legal Insurrection, by William A. Jacobson

I just don’t know how much more I can take of the escalating brawl between The NY Times and its fired Executive Editor Jill Abramson. Abramson is playing the sexism card on The Times the way The Times plays the sexism card on Republicans. The Times responded by playing the “nuts” defense on Abramson. What did I do to deserve such pleasure? Please tell me so I can do it again. This latest, though, is just precious, via Hollywood Reporter (h/t @DrudgeReport)(emphasis added): Jill Abramson delivered an honest, inspired speech to Wake Forest’s 2014 graduating class Monday. In her first public appearance since she was, as

A new book to be released by Dave Berg, longtime producer for ´The Tonight Show with Jay Leno,´ is pulling no punches in revealing the most memorable hijinks and celebrity diva moments from the show´s history. ´The Tonight Show with Jay Leno´, which began airing on NBC in 1992, hosted some of the hottest names of Hollywood and current events of the time. The number one late-night talk show for most of its run, Jay Leno´s show was the source of numerous pieces of pop-culture history, including Hugh Grant´s 1995 public apology for his arrest with a prostitute, Arnold Schwarzenegger´s announcement in

SHREVEPORT, La. -- The scene in the Libro living room in Spring Lake, La., could be anywhere in the nation, with mom Diane and 2-year-old daughter Catherine spending time with daddy, Joey Libro, miles away on a business trip. But in their case daddy´s office is a secure site on a remote Philippines island where Libro, a major in the U.S. Air Force at Barksdale Air Force Base, helps coordinate movements of forces advising that nation´s military. And he´s spending time with his family via Skype and the Internet, as likely thousands of deployed parents airmen working around the world,

Poor Katie — get her some Kleenex and a wrinkle-free pantsuit. TV star Katie Couric took such a beating in the press after she jumped ship to CBS she started comparing herself to Hillary Clinton, a new book says. The steep drop in popularity that followed Couric’s exit from NBC’s “Today” show in 2006 left her full of self-pity, according to author Sheila Weller. “In private, Katie — who had recently turned 50 — was now beginning to actively and repeatedly compare herself to the embattled but energized Hillary Clinton,” Weller writes in her new book — “The News Sorority: Diane Sawyer,

My father gave me what too many girls nowadays ruin themselves for lacking: A strong, loving, steady masculine presence. It’s inconceivable what I would be like without him. So, before I explain why my dad’s story is bigger than us, let me brag on him a little. It’s Father’s Day weekend, after all. Dad’s presence in my life kept me safe from many things my girlfriends put themselves through in frantic search of a man’s love. And my dad’s love was tangible, more acted out than spoken. He didn’t just say he loved us. His life repeatedly proved it. I never

ARLINGTON, Va. — Book signing in aisle 30. Among pallets of paper towels and bottled water, Hillary Clinton spent more than three hours Saturday morning autographing copies of her new memoir, “Hard Choices,” at a Costco in Northern Virginia. And, as it turns out, you really never know who will show up. “I don’t believe this,” Clinton said as she embraced Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor across the table. Justice Sotomayor said she happened to be “just shopping” at the bulk discount depot when she spied the former secretary of state sitting down. She told Clinton she plans to read her book. “You better, I

Far from being excommunicated by Republicans after his loss to President Obama, 2012 Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney is enjoying a brand resurgence of late, drawing several potential 2016 candidates to his "ideas summit" this weekend in Utah and even earning some 2016 speculation himself. Meanwhile, some other potential candidates are in Iowa for the state Republican Party´s convention there Saturday. And not to be left out, Gov. Chris Christie, R-N.J., was in California Friday to raise money for the Republican gubernatorial candidate there and participate in a Facebook chat. It all adds up to a busy weekend for the early 2016

People routinely say that being asked to speak in public is their No. 1 fear, inspiring more dread than flying. The idea of speaking to a group of people, even if they know the audience, scares them…well…speechless. And when it does come time to mount the stage, inexperienced speakers only make things worse by resorting to corny jokes and sappy, improbable anecdotes. Their agony makes everyone else in the room feel uncomfortable. The room reeks of flop sweat. There is also the flip side to public speaking: having to listen to it. Few things in life are more unpleasant than being

The pampered pukes and the Beautiful People still don’t get how angry everybody is about illegal immigration. Granted, Eric Cantor’s scalp isn’t even dry yet, but he is a pretty big trophy on the Tea Party wall. But the pajama boys of the mainstream media are still whistling past the graveyard, pretending the country doesn’t have a problem. Consider the death of a 3-year-old boy in Saugus Monday night in a traffic accident involving an illegal alien from Mexico who’d been deported and then came back. The Herald story had it all, including the fact that it was the SUV carrying the boy

Get the garlic. A full moon is rising on Friday the 13th -- the very same day a solar flare could send a shockwave to Earth’s surface. It’s a triple whammy for superstitious folks, according to Stuart Vyse, a psychology professor at Connecticut College. “People tend to try to read something into coincidences like these,” said Vyse, author of “Believing in Magic: The Psychology of Superstition.” “There will be a small group of people who are undoubtedly, predictably nervous about tomorrow.” The day also marks the first full moon on Friday the 13th since October 2000. WASHINGTON — Rep. Cohen’s Director Of Operations, Craig Dulniak, a senior member of Cohen’s staff, blasted out an email to every scheduler on the Hill Thursday morning with a simple subject line. “Phone number for Hillary Clinton,” it read. The body was just as direct. “Does anyone have a good phone number for Hillary Clinton?” The email was forwarded outside Hill circles, too, but maybe

Eliana’s report is just stunning — no matter how many times similar “mishaps” have occurred in this administration. The IRS, like other government agencies, has lots of reasons to maintain emails, so I’m curious about whether they will be similarly informing courts, Congress, litigants, FOIA petitioners, and other people and bodies they must periodically make disclosures and reports to that they’ve lost nearly two years’ worth of agency communications? Or was this just one of those highly, highly unusual computer crashes that affects only the email account of Lois Lerner and any executive branch official with whom she happened to

Top Jeb Bush adviser Mike Murphy, who did not even pay attention to Dave Brat´s campaign like Breitbart News did, has falsely been claiming that Cantor´s embrace of amnesty for illegal immigrants was not the reason he lost last Tuesday. Liberal writer Mickey Kaus had enough of Murphy´s nonsense and slammed him on Twitter on Friday evening. Kaus became Brat´s de facto press secretary and top advocate on Twitter in the last months of the campaign because Kaus, like Brat, opposes amnesty for illegal immigrants because it would hurt American workers. "And if these men and women are fit for military service, then surely they are fit to mentor, to teach, and to serve as role models for the leaders of future generations."

ISIS, the brutal insurgent/terrorist group formerly known as al Qaeda in Iraq, has seized much of western and northern Iraq and even threatens towns not far from Baghdad. From where did ISIS spring? One of George W. Bush´s most toxic legacies is the introduction of al Qaeda into Iraq, which is the ISIS mother ship. If this wasn´t so tragic it would be supremely ironic, because before the U.S. invasion of Iraq in 2003, top Bush officials were insisting that there was an al Qaeda-Iraq axis of evil. Anaheim, CA - President Obama, appearing emboldened after his recent move to cut carbon emissions from coal-fired power plants, on Saturday ridiculed members of Congress who deny climate change or plead scientific ignorance as an alibi for avoiding an uncomfortable truth. Speaking in gleefully sarcastic terms to a commencement ceremony at the University of California, Irvine, Mr. Obama likened those who deny climate change to people who would have told John F.
