Three reasons Obama might bomb Syria
Telegraph [UK], by Tom Rogan

American, British and French Intelligence services are convinced that Assad continues to use chemical weapons against his people. As I’ve previously noted, for the Obama Administration, this is a triple disaster: strategic (the Russian-brokered WMD deal has been rendered a tragic farce), political (domestic perceptions of Obama’s leadership have suffered), and humanitarian (Syrians continue to choke to death). Still, for three reasons, I believe Obama might soon enforce his ‘‘red line’’ with US military force. 1) Obama doesn’t need Congress to approve military action. Nor would America have to act alone. Since September 2013, when Obama withdrew his Syria authorisation of force

Iran Cheats on Oil Export Caps

Reuters on Tuesday published figures showing that Iran has, for the eighth straight month, violated crude export restrictions set by the interim Joint Plan of Action (JPA) agreement. Reuters cited experts suggesting that the Obama administration has been deliberately looking the other way as Tehran ignored the caps. Under the agreement signed in November between Iran and six world powers, which came into effect in January, Iran´s exports should average a maximum 1 million barrels per day (bpd) through to July 20. Iran´s oil exports were 1.21 million bpd in June, down from 1.33 million bpd in May, one of

I know that I can sometimes come off as unrelentingly anti-Obama, but here’s proof that one or two Americans dislike him, too. The Quinnipiac University´s latest presidential poll says that Barack Obama is the least favourite president since the Second World War. [Snip] These results are no great surprise to those who have been tallying the administration’s mistakes. People have long since stopped trying to define the foreign policy strategy of the Obama administration as it responds slowly to fast changing events, chases poll numbers, surges, withdraws and raises expectations with almost a sadist’s glee in dashing them.

Heavy rain, gusty winds and dangerous rip currents are in the forecast today as Hurricane Arthur churns just off the South Carolina coast. Arthur was upgraded from a tropical storm to a Category 1 hurricane about 5 a.m. today and is expected to pass due-east of Charleston early this afternoon, according to Michael Emlaw, meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Charleston. "We´re just on the fringe of it," Emlaw said. "Maybe we´ll get some 40-mph winds." Emlaw said the rain and winds are expected to come in bursts throughout the day, not hanging around in any one location for

One day recently, Andrea Sangrey, an oncology pharmacist, mixed up two chemotherapy drugs while preparing a prescription. She could easily have kept quiet about her mistake: the error was caught by a colleague before the medicine reached the patient, and no one needed to be any the wiser. Instead, she immediately reported herself to the hospital management. “Yes, I reported myself,” she says. “I put in a drug called Paclitaxel and it should have been Docetaxel. It could have caused harm to the patient. I was a little nervous filing a report on myself, but the reaction didn’t feel punitive. It

New air terror: UK airports on alert over

Britain´s airports are on terror alert amid fears Islamist groups are working on an undetectable ´stealth bomb´ which could be implanted inside an extremist´s body to bring down an airliner. Heightened precautions were brought in at terminals around the UK this morning after reports that two terror networks are trying to produce a new explosive, which may have already been tested by militants in Syria. It is feared the groups may be putting together a ´non-metallic´ device, which could potentially be surgically-implanted inside a terrorist´s body and would be almost invisible to current security checks.

Saudi Arabia has placed 30,000 soldiers on its northern border after 2,500 Iraqi soldiers quit their posts, leaving the country open to the threat of a lightning advance by ISIS militants. King Abdullah ordered all necessary measures to protect the kingdom against potential ´terrorist threats´ as the possibility of ISIS taking yet more territory in the Middle East appeared to increase. Saudi Arabia--which is the world´s top oil exporter--shares a 500-mile border with Iraq, where Sunni insurgents have seized numerous towns and cities in a campaign to establish an Islamic state which has been condemned as too brutal even by

The Levant, the region running inland from the eastern seaboard of the Mediterranean, has been fought over for millennia. Its vital trade and military roads linking Anatolia to north Africa and Arabia have been guarded and coveted since time immemorial. Control is everything, as Moses found out to his cost when he wanted to move north up the ancient King´s Highway out of the Sinai and into Edom (modern day southern Israel): "Now let us pass through your land. We will not pass through field or vineyard, or drink water from any well; we will go along the King’s Highway,

The number of suspected and confirmed cases of chikungunya virus in Caribbean countries has risen sharply over past weeks, health officials say. Tens of thousands of new cases have been reported in the Dominican Republic and its neighbour, Haiti. There is currently no vaccine or treatment for the mosquito-born virus which resembles dengue fever and can cause fever, skin rash and joint pain. European health authorities have warned travellers to take extra precautions. Avoid bites. The European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control told people travelling to the Caribbean to apply insect repellent and avoid mosquito bites.

A government-contracted security force threatened to arrest doctors and nurses if they divulged any information about the contagion threat at a refugee camp housing illegal alien children at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas, sources say. In spite of the threat, several former camp workers broke their confidentiality agreements and shared exclusive details with me about the dangerous conditions at the camp. They said taxpayers deserve to know about the contagious diseases and the risks the children pose to Americans. I have agreed to not to disclose their identities because they fear retaliation and prosecution.

This past week, Fox News, Megyn Kelly, and Dinesh D’Souza gave a platform to an entity that hates America and our way of life. Seems the prospect of smokin’ out a snake like Bill Ayers was too good to pass up. Getting an exclusive one-on-one with a crazy, violent communist with a small c was quite a coup for Kelly and D’Souza...or was it? Since lying and deceit generally benefit the liar, we have to ask, ”What was in it for Bill Ayers?” A mea culpa for past crimes? Hardly. After listening to Ayers, we must conclude: once a psychopath, always a psychopath.

WASHINGTON – Republicans see the November midterm elections as an opportunity to take the nation on a different path and call for a new conservative message focusing on the problems of regular Americans. During the latest convention of conservative activist Ralph Reed’s Faith and Freedom Coalition in Washington, D.C., Republicans confidently proclaimed that the GOP has an opportunity to turn back the past six years of President Obama’s administration in the midterm elections. “There’s only one thing to be done in 2014…and that is to take back America by taking back the Senate,” Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) said

President Obama’s displeasure with gridlock in Washington — and with the Republicans he blames for it — has been rising for months. This week it has boiled over. From the Rose Garden to the Cabinet Room to near the Key Bridge in Georgetown, the president has signaled more than mere annoyance at the state of affairs at the halfway point of this year. His disdain for congressional Republicans has steadily increased; his disrespect for their tactics has hardened into contempt. With immigration reform dead for this year, if not for the remainder of Obama’s presidency; with House Speaker John A.

Higher education is no longer just for kids in the top quarter or the top half of the class. College is for everyone," First lady Michelle Obama told a gathering of school counselors in Florida on Tuesday. "Every student in this country needs some higher education, whether that´s two-year degree, a four-year degree, or professional training of some sort." Mrs. Obama went to the annual meeting of the American School Counselor Association in Florida to thank counselors for taking on a demanding job without the resources necessary to meet the challenges. They, in turn, made her an honorary school counselor.
