College speaker calls
students immature, arrogant

Associated Press, by Staff

Original Article

A commencement speaker on Sunday blasted college students as "immature" and "arrogant" for protesting another speaker who then decided to withdraw. William Bowen, former president of Princeton University, used his commencement speech at Haverford College outside Philadelphia to criticize students who campaigned against Robert Birgeneau, former chancellor of the University of California, Berkeley. Birgeneau is among several commencement speakers who canceled their appearances this spring amid student protests. More than 40 students and three professors had protested Birgeneau´s invitation to speak, objecting to his handling of a 2011 incident at Berkeley in which police used force at a student protest during

Comments:
I´m surprised a former Princeton president showed some common sense, and am glad he got a standing ovation for putting the protesting students to shame.

I think schools should get former graduates who have a positive message to give commencement addresses. This speaker said what needed to be said to a few students but the method of delivery could have been an editorial in the school paper.

Nobody forces these few protesting students to go to their commencement ceremony. Stay home. I blame the schools for disinviting the speakers. I´m not at all surprised a Princeton President spoke up. Princeton´s one of our great universities.

Perhaps those getting their degrees in ´Ethnic Studies´ and the like should have their pre-unemployment celebration at another time and location.

Several years ago, I had a friend who was a yellow dog bleeding heart lie-beral. But he was also a fairly fair person.

He was getting his master´s degree from UT here in Austin. UT managed to get President Bush (who was president at the time) to be their commencement speaker. My friend was very much opposed to President Bush, so he chose not to attend the graduation ceremony.

However, he did not demand that the school uninvite President Bush. He knew it was an honor to have the president there, though he could not, with a clear conscience, sit through President Bush´s speech. While I thought he was crazy, I did respect that he stuck to his guns.

Fortunately, once he got away from UT, and into the real word, he has become more and more conservative over the years. However, even when he was a lie-beral, he still had civility. That is, sadly, something lie-berals have totally lost over the years.

Sorry for a second post, but what has this got to do with ´Ethnic Studies´ students? Nothing in the article mentioned anything at all to do with anything like that. Anyone know or is someone making a totally incorrect assumption?

Students have small brains, short memories and low attention spans, so they´ll forget about anything you said at the commencement. Their parents will probably tape it all on cell phones, however.

Doesn´t matter. Liberal college students are so much more socially conscious then us Neanderthals. Moreover their youth makes their motives pure of heart & unspoiled by us unenlightened dullards. Therefore, the end justifies the means.

For anything....

As # 2&5 indicated, no one is forced to go to graduation.

When Obama spoke at Univ of Notre Dame, many students protested his appearance. They did not attend their graduation but instead held their own at the Grotto.

The Grotto is a replica of Lourdes and among the most beautiful, holy and peaceful places I have ever had the privilege of visiting. They upheld their pro-life values in a most appropriate place and there is no doubt in my mind that their ceremony far exceeded anything Obama did at the regular ceremony.

They received their degrees before the Blessed Mother. What could be better?

#11-- I was disgusted at ND for inviting this lying, deceitful, incompetent, socialist faux president.
But I never heard about the alternative graduation at the Grotto.
Naturally, the LeftMedia would never report that.
Gives me hope yet for ND

All the time I was growing up in Atlanta, the face of Robert E. Lee was taking shape on the side of an enormous granite mountain just outside town. He loomed like a god above us, as much a presence as any deity, and God knows he was accepted as such. It was only much later that I began to question his sanctity, and then to hate what he stood for. When I was in elementary school, the face of Lee on Stone Mountain was a rough-cut thing, weathering and wasting as the generation that began it in 1912—a generation

Charlize Theron has compared press intrusion into her private life as being like rape. The Oscar-winning actress, who is promoting her new film "A Million Ways to Die in the West," made the comment during an interview with Britain´s Sky News. "I don´t [Google myself]," she said. "That´s my saving grace. I think it´s when you start living in that world and doing that, you start feeling raped." When asked if she feels that strongly about it, Theron responded, "Well, you know when it comes to your son and your private life. Maybe that´s just me. Some people might relish

If you believe honesty is the best policy, you would have a hard time convincing the forked-tailed drongo. This tricky African bird is the pathological liar of the animal kingdom. Scientists described on Thursday how this medium-sized bird brazenly deceives other animals by mimicking alarm calls made by numerous bird species - and even meerkats - to warn of an approaching predator in a ruse to frighten them off and steal food they leave behind. The researchers tracked 64 forked-tailed drongos over a span of nearly 850 hours in the Kalahari Desert in South Africa close to the Botswana border

The First Lady of these United States has declared war on Chick-fil-A. It seems the home of plump juicy breasts and hot buttered buns has run afoul of the new Smart Snacks in School program. The program is a component of Mrs. Obama’s Healthy, Hunger-Free Kids Act of 2010. The new government regulations require snack items served in public schools to have less than two hundred calories. That includes vending machines, lunch rooms and other campus food venues. And that’s really bad news for kids at South Carolina’s Socastee High School. They’ve just learned they will no longer be allowed to buy Chick-fil-A

“Trust” is for Con Men: The reaction to the border chaos in Texas has accomplished one thing: It has exploded the lie at the heart of current “comprehensive” immigration reform plans. The basic structure of those plans is a swap of a) near-immediate legalization for b) increased border security in the future. The appealing idea is to let current illegals stay while taking the steps necessary to prevent further waves. The lie is the assumption that, once current illegals get their legalization, pro-immigrant activists in both parties will continue to support the second half of the bargain, the increased security. Due to a combination of availability, portability and criminal usage the following five types of guns are the country's most dangerous.
