Army Ranger Who Led the Charge to Save
Jessica Lynch Makes the Ultimate
Sacrifice for His Nation

According to an Army Ranger and friend of the fallen, Sgt. Maj. Martin R. Barreras was the leader of the Army Battalion that came to the rescue of Jessica Lynch in Iraq. The heroic efforts of Martin’s battalion led to the first successful rescue operation of an American P.O.W. since World War II. After the operation, Barreras continued to put his life on the line for his country. He was shot in Afghanistan on May 6th, and died from his wounds on May 13th. Lt. Col Edward Brady said of Martin’s character: “Command Sgt. Maj. Barreras was my friend and battle buddy. I’ve spent more time with him than my wife since I’ve taken command.

Comments:
So much thankfulness for men such as Sgt. Maj. Martin R. Barreras, prayers for his family and friends, tears for his loss, and anger that good men like him die living lives committed to honor and duty beneath the authority and for the freedom of some who do not.
God bless our men and women in uniform, their families, and the families of those who have fallen. May we never forget the sacrifices they have made, and make, for us.

This breaks my heart.

I remember thinking that Pvt. Lynch was ungrateful for the way she spoke of the rescue effort later. I hope she hangs her head today.

Most people never realized the watershed event the rescue of that young, dazed, and confused female truck driver was for the U.S. military. It was the first time ever that the Army, Navy, and Air Force had teamed up (in a moment´s notice) to perform a comlicated POW rescue in the middle of a combat zone, and it went off flawlessly. That sort of cooperation had never been accomplished before.

Rangers DO Lead the Way, CSM Barreras!
RIP

A Brazilian man whose parents were African slaves could be the oldest living person ever documented after receiving a birth cerficate showing he turned 126 last week, it was reported on Tuesday. Jose Aguinelo dos Santos was born on July 7 1888, just two months after slavery was abolished in Brazil - the last country in the world to outlaw the trade. Yet the batchelor, who never married or had children, still walks without a stick, eats four meals a day and has no health problems - despite smoking a packet of cigarettes a day for the last 50 years.

Sunken into the plaid couch of his cinder-block room, John Flentie spends nearly every waking hour obsessed with obtaining his freedom. “I merely want to go home,” he says. At 73, the once-affluent Parkville resident is not a criminal inmate, nor is he an enemy combatant. Instead — to the extreme frustration of Flentie, his lawyer and a cadre of former high school classmates who for two years have been advocating for the release of a friend they insist is as capable and highly intelligent as always — Flentie is a ward of the state of Missouri. Since April 2012, he has been committed to various nursing homes under the guardianship

Janis Lane, Scott Brewster, and Rob Chambers were found locked inside the Hinds County Courthouse early Wednesday morning. They allegedly gained access to the courthouse sometime shortly after 2 a.m., and when they realized they were locked in, they called Hinds County Republican Executive Chairman Pete Perry to ask for help. They were let out around 3:45 a.m. Brewster is a former coordinator of presidential candidate Newt Gingrich´s Mississippi operation and

As expected, the Seattle City Council this afternoon passed the historic $15-an-hour minimum-wage bill that Mayor Murray and the City has spent months hammering out. With all nine Council members in attendance (Councilmember Tom Rasmussen was late), the minimum wage bill was approved unanimously, even earning the endorsement of socialist Kshama Sawant by the time the dust settled. The vote followed the failed introduction of amendments favored by Sawant to quicken implementation of the bill (4-5), remove training wages (4-5), remove the tip credit (1-8), and speed-up the process for requiring big business

Washington -- Some conservatives unhappy with House Speaker John Boehner´s leadership are looking for a replacement, and recent moves by Texas Republican Jeb Hensarling are fueling speculation he wants Boehner´s job in the next Congress. Hensarling, who was part of Boehner´s leadership team two years ago but left to chair the House Financial Services Committee, gave an expansive speech last week hosted by Heritage Action for America, a group that frequently and publicly clashes with Boehner. Asked afterward if he was interested in running for speaker, Hensarling initially said he was "flattered," and said, "It´s not something

The program is a component of Mrs. Obama’s Healthy, Hunger-Free Kids Act of 2010. The new government regulations require snack items served in public schools to have less than two hundred calories. That includes vending machines, lunch rooms and other campus food venues. And that’s really bad news for kids at South Carolina’s Socastee High School. The appealing idea is to let current illegals stay while taking the steps necessary to prevent further waves. The lie is the assumption that, once current illegals get their legalization, pro-immigrant activists in both parties will continue to support the second half of the bargain, the increased security.
