Hey, Class of 2014: It´s OK to Shun
Commencement Speakers, But

One of the astonishingly depressing aspects of American life is that the public sphere often seems to be simultaneously too forgiving and too judgmental. We live in a culture that deems Henry Kissinger a wise man, and Oliver North an appropriate host of television shows. The sorry history of Donald Sterling was known before his disgusting private comments were captured on tape, and yet no one seemed to find him worthy of social stigma until now. Public figures beat their wives or girlfriends and suffer only temporary setbacks in fame and fortune. And yet, just take a look at what

Today´s poorly educated and ill informed graduates don´t want speakers who will challenge their worldview, they want to be entertained. Better Snooki than Condi! (Can you see that bumper sticker on the new Prius mommy & daddy will give them as a graduation gift??)

"colleges are supposed to be places of open engagement. They are supposed to be places where opposing viewpoints clash."

Not so much. If you don´t follow the party line of today´s Marxist-indoctrinated drones, you just aren´t welcome. I dread the conditions this country will be experiencing in the next twenty years if we continue to follow this path.

Taking a night class a few years back, I had a doctor of philosophy tell the class that he believed if all guns were confiscated today, murder would disappear from the face of the earth in one generation. Sheer lunacy.

Let North Korea Collapse
New York Times, by Sue Mi Terry    Original Article
Posted By: Pluperfect- 6/17/2014 4:35:48 AM     Post Reply
NEW YORK — North Korea is a threat that keeps on threatening. Satellite imagery recently revealed increased activity at the Punggye-ri nuclear site. The government in Pyongyang appears to have completed preliminary steps for a fourth nuclear test. Its ballistic missile program continues to advance. And the man with his finger on the button is the 31-year-old Kim Jong-un, who seems even more erratic than his notorious predecessors. So far, the United States, South Korea, Japan and China — the main countries with a stake in stability on the Korean Peninsula — have responded by adopting a policy of soft containment.

Obama will propose vast expansion

President Obama on Tuesday will announce his intent to make a broad swath of the central Pacific Ocean off-limits to fishing, energy exploration and other activities, according to senior White House officials. The proposal, slated to go into effect later this year after a comment period, could create the world’s largest marine sanctuary and double the area of ocean globally that is fully protected. The announcement — details of which were provided to The Washington Post — is part of a broader push on maritime issues by an administration that has generally favored other environmental priorities. The oceans effort, led by Secretary

JERUSALEM - Israel’s prime minister warned today that the kidnapping of three teenage yeshiva students in the West Bank, including one who is an American citizen, “will have grave consequences.” Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu accuses the Palestinian militant group Hamas of being behind Thursday’s abduction, adding that, “We are in the middle of a complex operation. We need to be prepared for the fact that it may take more time.” “It is a serious incident and will have grave consequences,” Netanyahu added. Hamas, considered a terrorist organization by Israel and the U.S. State Department, has denied any involvement in

WASHINGTON-- Nearly 300 armed American forces are being positioned in and around Iraq to help secure U.S. assets as President Barack Obama nears a decision on an array of options for combating fast-moving Islamic insurgents, including airstrikes or a contingent of special forces. The U.S. and Iran also held an initial discussion on how the longtime foes might cooperate to ease the threat from the al-Qaida-linked militants that have swept through Iraq. Still, the White House ruled out the possibility that Washington and Tehran might coordinate military operations in Iraq. Obama met with his national security team Monday evening to discuss options

The former secretary of state appeared through a screen of black curtains, smiled to the wraparound crowd, and then sat down behind a table draped with a Costco Wholesale banner and buttressed by large blockades of Kirkland-brand paper towels, the 12-pack, pick-a-size kind. “Okay, let’s do it,” she said, grabbing a pen to sign the 1,000 books she was scheduled to inscribe on Saturday morning. The fans/discount shoppers applauded, and the delirious mania over the release of her political memoir “Hard Choices” — what it says, what it doesn’t, what it doesn’t say but should — culminated with Hillary Clinton

CNN anchor John King scoffed at the IRS’ excuse last week that over two years of emails from disgraced official Lois Lerner were inadvertently lost in a hard drive crash, joking you’d have to believe in Santa Claus or the Easter Bunny to “believe that [her] emails just suddenly went ‘poof.’” King discussed the IRS’ explanation Monday morning with a CNN panel, noting that the tax revenue service trotted out the story over a year after Republicans initially requested Lerner’s emails. As former head of the IRS Exempt Organizations office, Lerner was accused of orchestrating a deliberate campaign targeting Tea Party

Paul the Octopus — animal oracle of the 2010 World Cup — did not survive long enough to pick the winners in Brazil this year. The tournament´s host country picked a sea turtle as his successor. His competition in the crowded field of omniscient animals include a guinea pig from the Netherlands, two macaws named Serge and Oscar, Nelly the German elephant and a psychic bulldog from the United Kingdom. No such tradition for paranormal prediction has caught on for American politics, and it seems imprudent to think it will during the midterms. Why rely on a lion or tiger

DES MOINES, Iowa — Establishment forces officially wrested control of the Iowa Republican Party from supporters of Rand Paul on Saturday, a development the victors said would help save the state’s first-in-the-nation presidential caucus from being marginalized and possibly spell the demise of the Ames Straw Poll. The transfer of power to those loyal to Gov. Terry Branstad — which has been in the works for months but was completed on Saturday — increases the likelihood that center-right GOP candidates, such as Chris Christie or Jeb Bush, will choose to compete in the caucus. It also jeopardizes next year’s straw

SANTA FE, N.M.—Welcome to New Mexico, where a colorful chicken and a very small mouse are causing a big ruckus. Last week, four counties in New Mexico joined in a lawsuit stemming from the U.S. Department of Interior and U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service listing the lesser prairie chicken as a threatened species. The announcement came just one day after the Fish and Wildlife Service declared the meadow jumping mouse should be protected under the Endangered Species Act, giving it greater habitat protection but angering ranchers in a southern New Mexico county who are odds with the federal government over water and

The race for the next House Republican whip is wide open. And like other internal GOP fights, this one could get ugly. Candidates for whip and their backers worked through the weekend to build support, but it’s not clear if the current leader — Louisiana Rep. Steve Scalise — has the votes to win it outright on the first ballot. Rep. Peter Roskam of Illinois is close behind, while Rep. Marlin Stutzman of Indiana is trying to cash in on unhappiness with the other two. For now, it’s a wide-open three-way contest that pits conservatives against not only the establishment

At any other time, the growing crisis on the Mexican border, with tens of thousands of unaccompanied young people crossing illegally into the United States, might dominate the news. Yet the situation has received less attention than it might amid the furor over House Majority Leader Eric Cantor´s primary defeat, the collapse of Iraq, the continuing Bergdahl matter, and Hillary Clinton´s book tour. They´re all genuinely important news stories, and they´ve crowded out disaster at the border. But whether or not many people noticed, this was the week in which the Obama administration´s attempts to deflect blame for the border

Wikipedia has an article describing the six times Republican politicians suggested impeaching Barack Obama, the most serious of which was a hearing by the House Judiciary Committee “formally titled ‘The President’s Constitutional Duty to Faithfully Execute the Laws,’ that has been viewed as an attempt to begin justifying impeachment proceedings”. (Snip) The problem with the “Obama is unimpeachable” argument is that he has already been impeached as Leader of the Free World. Any observer of Obama’s collapse will have noted his marginalization in international councils. Britain flatly refused to go along with him in enforcing a Red Line in Syria.

Bill Clinton is by far the most admired president of the past quarter century, a new poll shows, underscoring how much he has done to burnish his profile since leaving the White House in 2000. Asked which president of the past 25 years they admired most, some 42% of respondents named Mr. Clinton in the new Wall Street Journal/NBC News/Annenberg Survey. That was more than twice the share that named any other president. The other three presidents of the quarter century all polled about the same: 18% said they most admired President Barack Obama; 17% named George W. Bush; and 16%

In the letter, the president called for Congressional authorization for this action. And this was the statement released by the Press Secretary’s office. Today, consistent with the War Powers Resolution, the President transmitted a report notifying the Congress that up to approximately 275 U.S. military personnel are deploying to Iraq to provide support and security for U.S. personnel and the U.S. Embassy in Baghdad. Hardly anyone accepts the IRS’ claim to have lost two years of Lois Lerner’s emails. Those most familiar with government record retention requirements, and the technology used, probably are the most skeptical. The supposedly lost emails cover January 2009 to April 2011, the period when Lerner is suspected of targeting conservative groups with heightened and invasive scrutiny. Those emails also pertain to communications Lerner may have had with agencies other than the Internal Revenue Service. That’s key, because many suspect that the Obama White House knew about, and may have coordinated, the targeting.

Highly organized and bloodthirsty, the radical Islamist army called ISIS took but a few days to subjugate the cities of northern Iraq as it dreams of taking over the entire country — while President Obama played it cynically cool. The group’s stunning, barbaric march prompted the President on Friday to offer to review a range of options because America has “a stake in making sure that these jihadists are not getting a permanent foothold in either Iraq or Syria.” Returned now to the White House from a long-weekend family vacation in California, the President must face the awful reality that he dodged
