Nevada rancher Cliven Bundy is assembling
‘team of legal advisers’ to take on feds

Washington Times, by Cheryl K. Chumley

Nevada cattle rancher Cliven Bundy said in a lengthy written statement that he’s not going to sue the federal government after all, despite the number of lawyers he says have lined up to state his case against the Bureau of Land Management for free. At the same time, he wrapped his statement by saying that he’s “assembling a team of legal advisers” to help decide his family’s best course of action. The Bundy family has been at the center of a nationally watched armed standoff with the BLM over grazing fees. And some have said Mr. Bundy has a valid

Dude, like I´ve said before, your cows were NOT grazing on govt. grass...they were doing Green Conversion...grass to fertilizer! You didn´t take a thing, the cows left behind everything they ate plus added benefits. As I see it BLM owes you $2.8M (I got my numbers from the ADRS).

This affair has similarities to the NSA and Snowden. While all parties involved in both the BLM and NSA overreach are flawed, Bundy and Snowden share a yearning to throw off the yoke of tyrannical government. It is saddening how many stand with those that push tryanny (NSA and the BLM).

IT’S Wednesday morning and 39 editors have filed in to the 10 a.m. meeting in The Times’s third-floor conference room, some carrying laptops and smartphones, others with pens and notepads. The meeting, which until recently concentrated on the printed newspaper, now emphasizes a different discussion: journalism on the digital platforms of The Times. There was praise for headlines that had contained the right words — both “Eric” and “Cantor,” in this case — to maximize online search results; a query about whether a story would be accompanied by a video; and talk about how to give a political package more weight

This week I nervously watched my 90-year-old father parachute from a plane in Kennebunkport, Maine. I guess I should not have been surprised. He was the youngest pilot in World War II and now he is probably one of the oldest skydivers. He has always been a risk-taker, brave and courageous in my eyes. Throughout his life, he never shied away from taking bold steps. Whether it was serving in the military or as president of the United States, my father wanted to greatly contribute to our nation and to lead effectively. For my father, it was never so much about

JERUSALEM — The Israeli army moved additional forces to the West Bank Saturday as it intensified a search for three missing Jewish teenagers believed to have been seized by Palestinian militants. “Our boys were kidnapped by a terrorist organization, plain and simple,” said Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in a nationally televised statement. “There is no doubt about that.” Netanyahu accused Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas of responsibility for the apparent abduction, asserting that the perpetrators came from a West Bank area under control of the Palestinian Authority. Palestinian officials had noted earlier that the Israeli teenagers, religious seminary students who had been hitchhiking near

The Navy´s new super stealthy destroyer, the USS Zumwalt, has a lot in common with Hollywood´s starship Enterprise, according to folks who´ve seen it in person. Much has been written about the Zumwalt´s appropriately named commander, Capt. James Kirk. But aside from that coincidence, the ship´s operations center utilizes advanced technology that takes multitasking to a deadly new level on the high seas. First launched last year, this is a massive $3 billion warship -- the largest type of destroyer in the modern Navy by about 65%. One thing that sets it apart is a very small crew. Compared with

The South Carolina legislature has rankled liberal groups after requiring that a pair of public schools use state funds to teach the U.S. Constitution and other founding documents -- on the heels of a budget fight over gay-themed books in the curriculum. State House lawmakers previously had cut funds from two public universities in retaliation for required-reading material containing homosexual themes. A revised budget passed by both the House and the Senate earlier this month, though, restored the money -- but dictated that exact amount be spent "for instruction in the provisions and principles of the United States Constitution, the Declaration

WASHINGTON - It´s crunch time at the Supreme Court, where the justices are racing to issue opinions in 17 cases over the next two weeks. The religious rights of corporations, the speech rights of abortion protesters and the privacy rights of people under arrest are among the significant issues that are so far unresolved. Summer travel, European teaching gigs and relaxation beckon, but only after the court hands down decisions in all the cases it has heard since October. In rare instances, the justices will put off decisions and order a case to be argued again in the next term. This is also the

Images emerging from Mosul, Iraq´s embattled northern city, present a familiar scene to fans of zombie movies. Burned-out military vehicles are clustered together on empty streets. At every intersection there is evidence of desperate last stands. Strewn uniforms lay abandoned outside gutted police stations. Hundreds of thousands of civilians have fled for their lives. Mosul is a ghost town where only looters and stray dogs hazard the streets. But this isn´t a zombie movie. It is Iraq´s second-largest city, the thriving political and economic capital of the country´s Sunni Arab community. In a matter of days between June 6 and 9,

People are baffled today that Rep. Eric Cantor, the House majority leader, lost his job when he lost his GOP primary Tuesday night. A common refrain is, how could this have happened? (Sample headline: “Why Did Cantor Lose? Not Easy to Explain.”) The truth is that Cantor’s electoral demise did not occur overnight.(Snip)After Cantor’s 2010 victory, a group of anti-Cantor activists from both left and right met in person to discuss campaigning against the man who would soon be majority leader. Marco Rubio and Rand Paul, two Republican senators who may run for president, are offering sharply different reactions to developments in Iraq, with Rubio backing potential American airstrikes against al-Qaeda-inspired militants advancing in the country and Paul expressing concerns about involvement. The divergent approaches illustrate the ongoing rift in the GOP over America’s role abroad, and could foretell a major point of contention among Republicans vying for the GOP’s nod in 2016. The views come as the White House weighs what it will do next in Iraq, where the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria, a Sunni extremist group, has taken

Remember where you are at this moment. Twenty years after the fact, the real verdict on the O.J. Simpson murder trial is finally in. With a far more diverse population and polls showing blacks and whites reporting better race relations, the results are overwhelming: O.J. Simpson is guilty of murder. It wasn’t always this way. In 1995, 60 percent of black people said Simpson was innocent of charges that he killed his ex-wife, Nicole Brown Simpson, and her friend, Ronald Goldman, on June 12, 1994. Black people were so angry with racist cops then, they didn´t want to see anyone put on trial except the

The IRS, like other government agencies, has lots of reasons to maintain emails, so I’m curious about whether they will be similarly informing courts, Congress, litigants, FOIA petitioners, and other people and bodies they must periodically make disclosures and reports to that they’ve lost nearly two years’ worth of agency communications? Or was this just one of those highly, highly unusual computer crashes that affects only the email account of Lois Lerner and any executive branch official with whom she happened to

BOSTON — Once fearing he would be viewed as "a loser for life" if he failed to win the presidency, Mitt Romney is trying to re-emerge as a force in Republican politics. Romney has quietly sought kingmaker status in the GOP´s fight for the Senate majority this fall and its quest to retake the White House in 2016. The effort at revival is fueling whispers about a third presidential run. But those closest to Romney suggest he´s more interested in shaping party politics by lending his name and record-breaking fundraising machine to what he considers the next generation of electable conservatives. ISIS, the brutal insurgent/terrorist group formerly known as al Qaeda in Iraq, has seized much of western and northern Iraq and even threatens towns not far from Baghdad. From where did ISIS spring? One of George W. Bush´s most toxic legacies is the introduction of al Qaeda into Iraq, which is the ISIS mother ship. If this wasn´t so tragic it would be supremely ironic, because before the U.S. invasion of Iraq in 2003, top Bush officials were insisting that there was an al Qaeda-Iraq axis of evil. Their claims that Saddam Hussein´s men were training members of al Qaeda how to
