Cascade of scandals has Veterans
Secretary Eric Shinseki fighting for his job

Washington Examiner [DC], by Mark Tapscott & Mark Flatten

Eric Shinseki’s troubles began with a "Patton" video. Now the secretary of Veterans Affairs is facing charges that veterans are needlessly dying on his watch as the head of the largest civilian agency in the federal government. Scandals have cascaded over Shinseki and the VA since the Washington Examiner revealed in August 2012 that $50,000 in taxpayer money was spent to produce a pair of video parodies that came to define the lavish spending at the two Veterans Affairs training conferences in Orlando. Those conferences cost taxpayers about $6.1 million, of which as much as $762,000 was squandered on useless baubles like tote

This man must be removed from this position of authority immediately. He had seven years to fix the problems and all he did was cover them up.

Bureaucratic schemes are hard to detect, especially if the people involved know the ropes.

A couple years ago there was a story in Britain where military bureaucrats didn´t spend appropiated money for helicopters to boost their year end performance bonuses. That´s the real story behind this. The more they save by cutting off people´s treatment, the bigger the performance bonus,

This happens all across government and why government works so poorly. Not surprisingly,it´s pure greed.Arizona VA officials got huge bonuses last year.

Once in a while the Pentagon will say they lost 200 tanks or whatever but they weren´t delivered in the first place, the money was stolen or diverted.Obama is raiding a lot of agencies to pay for climate change schemes to reward his buddies. Obviously government theft has gotten much worse under Obama and Holder.Hedge fund operators have never been happier, cashing in on failed gov´t loans. They´ll probably get billions from student loan forgiveness the left is suddenly fighting for.

As unpleasant as the day may be he will survive it. Many of OUR vets have not been as lucky! Too bad he cannot be tried for incompetence. His punishment should include being forced to use the same level and quality of care he has directed be provided to the vets.

In Obama world no one is actually held accountable for their results...it is not the socialist way. The bigger the government the bigger the lies to cover their horrible results. Good results is not what socialist are interested in, thus accountability is not important if you are a team member.

Lest we forget, under Bill Clinton, Eric Shinseki was the "forward thinker" who decided that all Army troops, not just the paratroopers who worked hard to earn them, should wear black berets and then agreed that they be made and shipped from China. Bradley/Chelsea Manning wore a black beret to its court martial. If you respect Western heritage, how does urine feel on the face of your convictions?

Why is it such a rarity to find competence in government agencies? In the next life I would like to return as a giant broom.

Come on, give the guy a break. He was only trying to get the VA in line with what is happening in barrycare. As we know, these people march in lockstep.

How this shamelessly incompetent person ever rose to the rank of four star general is beyond me. But a read of his bio reveals a lot of AffAm probabilities and he has been carried along and aggrandized as the first Japanese-American this and that in the U. S. Army, including four star general.

We all remember the beret fiasco and his little hand was in a lot of other absurd happenings. So I suppose he was a natural for the Obama misadministration.

He should never have been there, so his need to leave now or be fired - oh, dear! - is academic. A metter of when. As in NOW.

And to think that the VA is just one agency full of corruption and outright theft that is known as the federal government. This sort of activity goes on thru every agency in the government. The one thing that makes the VA stand out is the shear number of vets that die each year from the botched medical care and/or the fact that they did not receive any care at all.

Time for that next revolution I´m always harping about.

He has just completed his opening statement which was a standard bureaucratic boilerplate, urging everyone to wait while the report is completed. He is a pathetic mealymouthed self-serving bureaucratic disaster. I cannot imagine any redblooded American soldier´s having to serve under this guy.

Chairman Sanders just went after him, saying these problems are not new...And Shinseki goes back to the need to wait for the audit.

I´m not going to defend Shinseki but a little clarification is in order.

All the talk about claim backlogs. First, these 300,00 claims or whatever number is thrown around represents Veterans filing for some type of service connected disability dating back to World War II. These are not all vet claims who served in OIF and/or OEF. And part of the claim process is ensuring that the claim is legitimate. Or do we all agree here that any veteran who submits any claim for any injury whether incurred during service or not is approved and is entitled the full financial compensation? So the combat wounded veteran receives the same care and financial compensation as the veteran with some injury from playing basketball?

Federal employees, like all Americans, are entitled to hold passionate political beliefs. Most executive branch federal employees, however, may not engage in certain political activities, thanks to an anti-conflict of interest principle enshrined in a federal law called the Hatch Act. To wit, President Bush requested the resignation of his GSA administrator in 2008 after the US Office of Special Counsel determined she had violated federal law by participating in a video conference with Karl Rove and sending out partisan letters. Seventeen percent of people in the United States say immigration is the nation’s top problem, according to a Gallup poll released Wednesday. That´s up from 5 percent in June, and is the highest number Gallup has registered for immigration since 2006, when 15 percent said it was the nation´s most pressing problem. Gallup’s new survey found immigration is virtually tied with “dissatisfaction with government” as the nation´s top problem. The economy and unemployment rank below immigration and “dissatisfaction with government" as top problems, the new poll found. The headlines last week were all about the potential windfall: A second appraisal of works in the Detroit Institute of Arts´ collection had come in and the number was several orders of magnitude larger than the first. How would you feel if someone promised to give you a car, and then reneged on that pledge? That’s how all Americans should feel when it comes to ObamaCare -- because Barack Obama’s failed and discredited campaign promise to lower health insurance premiums has cost the average American family an amount equal to the price of many new cars. During his 2008 campaign, one of then-Senator Obama’s most audacious promises was that his health plan would reduce premiums by $2,500 for the average family. His repeatedly made his pledge on videotape; you can view those promises here. But health insurance premiums
