Lung Cancer Screening
Could Cost Medicare Billions

Associated Press, by Staff

Original Article

Posted By:Pluperfect, 5/15/2014 4:31:28 AM

Every person covered by Medicare would shell out an additional $3 a month if the government agreed to pay to screen certain current and former smokers for lung cancer, a new study estimates. It would cost Medicare $2 billion a year to follow recent advice to offer these lung scans - and fuel angst about rising health costs that are borne by everyone, not just smokers, the study found. Joshua Roth of the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center in Seattle said the researchers merely were tallying the cost of screening, and were not "judging value" or saying whether Medicare should pay it.

More damage comes from those darn Chemtrails being sprayed almost daily-----wonder what that cost factor might be. Damage comes from all the ingredients added to food products which affects the immune system making the lungs vulnerable to disease as well as the balance of the physical make-up.

With the push to legalize pot/weed, the pro-potters/weeders are proof of the hypocrisy of the authored reports on regular tobacco use.

Democrats Shouldn’t Dream in
Mississippi, Where a Runoff Looms
New York Times, by Nate Cohn    Original Article

After a night of surprising regional shifts in voter turnout Tuesday, neither Thad Cochran, an incumbent Republican senator in Mississippi, nor Chris McDaniel, a state senator backed by Tea Party groups, appeared to reach the 50 percent necessary to avoid a runoff in Mississippi’s Republican Senate primary. Mr. McDaniel held 49.6 percent of the vote after a stupendous hometown turnout, which surged far ahead of the turnout for the 2012 Republican presidential primary and gave him a lead over Mr. Cochran, who is at 48.9 percent with 99 percent of precincts reporting. The contest is expected to be decided in a runoff

The federal government is not shy about prosecuting those who violate threatened and endangered species laws. But under a new Obama administration policy, wind farm operators are getting 30-year permits to kill protected species. The government fined marine biologist Nancy Black $12,000 and sentenced her to three years probation for feeding a whale in Monterey Bay. Just last month, US Fish and Wildlife cited 26-year- old tree trimmer Ernesto Pulido for violating the 1918 Migratory Bird Treaty Act for disturbing a nest of herons. Pulido was hired by the U.S. Postal Service to rid their parking lot in Oakland, Calif. of the

Mad cow disease has caused a fourth death in the United States, health officials say. Lab tests have confirmed that a patient in Texas who recently died had Variant Creutzfeldt-Jakob Disease. Variant CJD is a fatal brain disorder linked to eating beef from cattle with mad cow disease, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said in a press release. Variant CJD was first identified in the United Kingdom in 1996, according to the CDC. Worldwide more than 220 cases have been reported, the majority in Europe. CDC officials said this is only the fourth case to be reported in the United

WASHINGTON -- Once released from captivity, a soldier like Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl enters a series of debriefings and counseling sessions, all carefully orchestrated by the U.S. military, to ease the soldier back into normal life. In military parlance, it´s known as "reintegration," and Bergdahl, who spent five years as a captive of the Taliban under circumstances now hotly debated, is working his way through its early stages at a U.S. military hospital in Germany. A look, in question and answer form, at how this process typically plays out: Q. When does Bergdahl get to go home? A. The short answer

The Hinds County, Mississippi Sheriff´s Department is investigating why three people, including a staffer for Republican senate candidate Chris McDaniel ended up locked in the county courthouse on election night, according to the Jackson Clarion-Ledger. Given how close the contest between McDaniel and Sen. Thad Cochran ended up on Tuesday night -- the two are separated by less than 1,500 votes -- the situation certainly raises eyebrows. Let´s get one thing out of the way at the outset. There is no evidence that the presence of McDaniel campaign coalition coordinator Scott Brewster and the others affected the results in the

Family members confirmed the death of Chester Nez to Albuquerque’s Action 7 News. He was the last remaining member of an original group of 29 Navajos recruited by the US Marine Corps to create a code based on their language that the Japanese could not crack. About 400 code talkers used their unique battlefield cipher to encrypt messages sent from field telephones and radios throughout the Pacific theater during

For years, the conglomerate paid off Colombian militias. So it’s no wonder the company is now furiously lobbying to stop a bill that would make it easier to sue terror financiers. Chiquita, the world’s largest banana producer, is spending hundreds of thousands of dollars to block a 9/11 victims’ bill, The Daily Beast has learned. And outraged supporters of the legislation accuse a senior lawmaker, Rep. Bob Goodlatte, of working with the fruit kings to stand in their way. According to Congressional lobbying

The third "B" in the collapse of our national security system and the State Department hit this week. The release of five very high-value terrorist leaders as a swap for one U.S. serviceman was the third strike against the Obama administration´s policy of defeat, dishonesty and self-delusion. When Congress starts investigating the Bergdahl case it must broaden the analysis to look at the common patterns which connect it to the administration´s approach on two other national security questions: Boko Haram and Benghazi. The first was Hillary Clinton´s State Department´s decision from 2011 to 2013 to reject requests by the FBI, CIA, Justice Department

One of the most striking elements of the Bowe Bergdahl affair is word that top Army officers were so anxious to keep the matter a secret that they directed Bergdahl´s fellow soldiers to sign a pledge of silence about his 2009 decision to walk away from duty in Afghanistan. "Many of Bergdahl´s fellow troops…signed nondisclosure agreements agreeing to never share any information about Bergdahl´s disappearance and the efforts to recapture him," wrote CNN´s Jake Tapper, who first reported the agreements last Sunday. Now, with Bergdahl back in U.S. hands, many of those former soldiers are ignoring the agreement they signed. They
