No, Uncle Sam doesn’t really

Uncle Sam doesn’t want you. At least 80 percent of you. These days, the U.S. military is only taking 20 percent of the applicants who walk into their local recruiter’s office intent on enlisting in the armed services. SEE ALSO: General: Millennial Marines shun self-absorbed culture Army Sgt. 1st Class Terrence Hoard told the Kansas City Star that his recruitment office once needed to sign up 16 to 20 soldiers per month to meet recruitment goals. Today, he can get by with 10 to 12. “We’re turning down twice as many as before,” he told the paper, which reported that four of every five

I admire anyone who has the whatever it takes to sign up for military service under the POS preezy we now have in charge of the military. And if I was in, I would have been getting out a long time ago. I wouldn´t offer a piece of my little fingernail on his behalf.

I still feel that serving in any branch of the military is a special honor, one that is very favorably looked upon by employers. I would still encourage young folks to sign up today; Nobama won´t be there forever [oops, did I just jinx that?!]. The training and discipline that the military instills in a person, not to mention a true appreciation of the sacrifice of fighting for your country as well as how great the US is compared to other so-called ´nations´ around the globe, is immeasurable.

As for the downsizing, I will say: this too shall pass.

Re: #4, there was a time when the Army was taking, not just accepting, some questionable young men; including some of those who were given a choice between jail and Army. During the draft of the VN ´police action(as always Congress cares more about their political lives than the country and it military - spit)´ the bar was lowered substantially. I have no knowledge of the mentally retarded, but I do know they were not looking too closely. As you know it was unpopular situation and filling recruitment goals was a challenge; and recruiters did not have a particularly stellar reputation. I think play has some part in the treatment by the VA today. There was not a lot of care for the VN soldier then or that veteran today.

At the same time some politicians a want to allow illegal aliens to join the military so that they can get immediate US citizenship. Since the military is turning down 80% of prospective American and legal alien recruits now you would have to believe that the only way that the military would enlist illegal aliens is if the White House comes up with a new affirmative action type recruiting program that requires the military to recruit and enlist a certain percentage of illegal aliens. I would think that would be very bad politics for the Democrats once the veterans get wind of that happening.

I believe with all my heart that under Obama, Hagel is following orders to be picky all right. Particular attention paid to religion, race and country of origin.

Despite fiery statements issued by Hamas spokesmen over the past 48 hours, it was obvious Tuesday night that the Islamist movement was searching for ways to rid itself of the current escalation. Hamas feels that it has been forced into a confrontation with Israel – one that it did not want at this stage because of its increased isolation and financial crisis. The massive Israeli air strikes on the Gaza Strip over the past 24 hours have surprised Hamas and other Palestinian groups. Hamas apparently expected a limited response to the recent rocket attacks on Israeli cities and towns. But as the

Ever since President George W. Bush said “Islam is peace” on Sept. 17, 2001, it has been politically shielded from any debate about its effects on its adherents or on the rest of the world. Muslim nations and pressure groups such as the Council on American-Islamic Relations have used political correctness as a weapon to punish anyone who dared to begin any debate on Islam by calling them “Islamophobes,” an accusation of racism. That era was ended by the lead editorial in the July 5 edition of The Economist, the prominent liberal British news magazine. Titled “The Tragedy of the Arabs,”

Half a dozen things went through my mind. Maybe he’s trying some sort of Cloward-Piven maneuver: an attempt to overwhelm our welfare state to the point where we replace it with “a guaranteed annual income and thus an end to poverty.” Or maybe he’s just trying to flood the population with Democrat voters. Back in the heyday of the British Empire, a man from one of the colonies addressed a London audience. "Please do not do any more good in my country," he said. "We have suffered too much already from all the good that you have done." That is essentially the message of an outstanding new book by Jason Riley about blacks in America. Its title is "Please Stop Helping Us." Its theme is that many policies designed to help blacks are in fact harmful, sometimes devastatingly so. These counterproductive policies range from minimum wage laws to "affirmative action" quotas. This book untangles the controversies,
