In Nigeria, Obama’s Pro-Islamist

Boko Haram is a violent Salafist group that emerged in predominantly Muslim northeast Nigeria in the early 2000s. (Salafism is a Sunni Muslim reform movement that seeks return to the mores of the first generations of Muslims — the Salafiyya or the companions of Mohammed.) There are reports that it got seed money from Osama bin Laden, and it has long been known to have al Qaeda ties, but how closely it actually works with al Qaeda — as opposed to loud displays of ideological support — is the subject of some debate in the U.S. government. This debate is reflective

The Democrat party has put up for office the most evil, incompetent, thoughtless, careless, dishonest, spiteful, jealous, greedy, hateful group of people on earth. I think we can do better. Why won´t the Republicans go after them hammer and tongs? Because they´re about the same.

I wouldn´t let these people run the cash register at a convenience store, stock the shelves at a grocery store, or pour concrete, fix a leaky faucet, or change a light bulb.

And yet they rule the world.

Bill Clinton´s critics in Arkansas used to say that he would rather climb a tree and tell a lie than stand on the ground and tell the truth. In other words, Clinton would lie when the truth would do -- and when telling the truth would be easier. The saying might apply to the Obama administration´s public statements about Bowe Bergdahl, the U.S. soldier released from captivity in Afghanistan in a trade for five Taliban commanders held at Guantanamo Bay. There is substantial evidence to suggest that Bergdahl abandoned his post in 2009 -- he went AWOL, he deserted, whatever

Former U.S. Senate candidate Annette Bosworth has turned herself into the Minnehaha County Jail following the issuance of a warrant for her arrest. Attorney General Marty Jackley issued the warrant for Bosworth this morning. She turned herself in Wednesday just before noon. Jackley said he would "issue a release once its appropriate" with the details of the case, which is based in Hughes County. Bosworth would need to appear in Hughes County for court. The warrant was for perjury, a class six felony. She´ll be released on a personal recognizance bond, said Sgt. Jason Gearman of the Minnehaha County Sheriff´s Office. Bosworth walked

More than 2 million people who got health insurance under President Obama´s law have data discrepancies that could jeopardize coverage for some, a government document shows. About 1 in 4 people who signed up have discrepancies, creating a huge paperwork jam for the feds and exposing some consumers to repayment demands, or possibly even loss of coverage, if they got too generous a subsidy. The 7-page slide presentation from the Health and Human Services department was provided to The Associated Press as several congressional committees are actively investigating the discrepancies, most of which involve important details on income, citizenship and immigration status.

Elizabeth Drew, an antique of the Washington press corps and a foaming-at-the-mouth partisan Democrat, has dusted off and inflicted on America yet again, for the third time in 40 years, her diary of the Watergate affair. Her proffered excuse for scraping up and reloading and firing this soggy, poisonous projectile is her “hope that those who go through this for the first time and those who relive it will realize . . . how we almost lost our democratic system.” As the narrative grinds, with malice aforethought, toward Richard Nixon’s premature departure from the White House, Ms. Drew quotes approvingly

Robert Bergdahl is a already a major embarrassment for President Obama. Not only did the senior Bergdahl, with his Taliban-style beard, break into Pashto and Arabic during Obama’s would-be photo opportunity, he has made a string of anti-American, pro-Taliban statements (see below). The potential for further embarrassment seems great. Bergdahl either loves to explain himself, loves the sound of his own voice, or both. It’s not clear to me whether Obama cares about the fall-out at this point. However, his backers do. Consider this article about the senior Bergdahl by Todd Frankel in today’s Washington Post. It casts the Taliban sympathizer in the

A cash-strapped female soldier told a Fort Hood hearing board Tuesday about how a noncommissioned sexual assault prevention officer on base forced her into a prostitution ring so she could buy groceries for her child. The private testified against Sgt. 1st Class Gregory McQueen during a proceeding similar to a grand jury hearing. McQueen could face some 21 criminal charges if he is slapped with a military court-martial. "Basically, it was having sex with higher ranking officers for money," the woman told the board, the Killeen Daily Herald reported. When the founders established the U.S. Senate, they intended for it to be a check on the volatile, populist House of Representatives. This was supposed to be the “upper body,” where rational debate led to wise policy decisions for the good of the nation. For more than 200 years, the Senate mostly lived up to the founders’ intention. But in recent years, things have changed. Traditional Senate comity and bipartisanship have shifted to a freeze on action and attempts at total domination by whichever party has the majority. Until recently, both Democratic and Republican senators worked through many of their

The release of Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl in exchange for five Taliban detainees raises the question: What about Alan Gross, the State Department subcontractor who has languished nearly as long in a Cuban jail? Don’t count me among those who pronounce with certitude on the wisdom — or folly — of the Bergdahl deal. It was an agonizingly hard call, one that requires more knowledge than is publicly available about the dangerousness of the five Taliban officials and the United States’ ability to keep tabs on them once released. If pushed, I would come down, tentatively, against the swap. As much

Congratulations, Mr. President! And identical congrats to your sorcerer’s apprentice, National Security Adviser Susan Rice. By trying to sell him as an American hero, you’ve turned a deserter already despised by soldiers in the know into quite possibly the most-hated individual soldier in the history of our military. I have never witnessed such outrage from our troops. Exhibit A: Ms. Rice. In one of the most tone-deaf statements in White House history (we’re making a lot of history here), the national-security advisor, on a Sunday talk show, described Bergdahl as having served “with honor and distinction.” Those serving in uniform and those

President Barack Obama has an appalling track record when it comes to insulting Poland, a key U.S. ally in Eastern Europe. In 2009, his administration humiliated Warsaw when, in deference to Russian demands, it pulled out of an agreement over Third Site missile defense installations in Poland and the Czech Republic. In 2010, the president opted to play golf on the same day the Polish people were mourning the death of their president, Lech Kaczysnki, Kaczynski’s wife and 94 senior Polish officials killed in the Smolensk air disaster. When Bob Bergdahl launched in Arabic, invoking Allah while standing next to President Obama in the White House Rose Garden, a number of Americans were startled. (snip) I am not knowledgeable enough to judge the claim of sanctifying the White House and claiming it for Islam, but I place a lot of stick in watching nonverbal cues, people’s quick reactions. And so, when our friends at iOwnTheWorld.com captured and enlarged President Obama’s reaction to Bergdahl’s invocation of Allah, it hit me hard. Susan Rice has done it again. Defending the deal that freed Sgt Bowe Bergdahl from the Taliban, the national security adviser declared that Bergdahl had "served the United States with honour and distinction". [Snip] In the US military, walking off post isn´t regarded positively. Moreover, as I noted yesterday, Bergdahl´s unit--1st Battalion, the 501st Parachute Infantry Regiment--lost seven men during its 2009-10 deployment. Parachute units like the 501st take great pride in their elite status within the military. Many Americans believe that administration is elevating a traitor (as they see it) above those killed in action. Visit an online US

The 43-year-old Ernst won the nomination over five candidates. She´ll face Democratic Rep. Bruce Braley in the November general election. All the Republicans seeking the nomination described themselves as deeply conservative, but Ernst managed to stand out in part due to two television ads. One featured her on a farm, talking about her experience castrating hogs, and the other showed her firing a handgun. Ernst also received endorsements from a variety of groups and individuals,

President Obama betrayed the highest obligation of his office — safeguarding national security — in trading five hard-core Taliban for the American serviceman who appears to have deserted in Afghanistan. The five sworn enemies of the United States are now in the Gulf state of Qatar, where they are free to come and go as they like, beyond the watch of American agents. In just one year, they will be free to return to Afghanistan to fight there and stage terror attacks far beyond that country’s borders.

Acting as commander-in-chief, President Obama exchanged five terrorist leaders for U.S. Army Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl. The rationale was that the United States leaves no soldier behind on the battlefield or in enemy hands. That is half of the equation. The disconcerting other half is that Bergdahl may have left behind his own unit and gone over to the enemy. In 2009, then Pvt. Bergdahl (automatically promoted in absentia to the rank of sergeant) left his frontline unit under the cover of darkness. Soon after, the Taliban reported him in their custody. For weeks, thousands of American soldiers risked their lives to
