Rep. Joe Garcia Digs For Ear
Wax Then Appears To Eat It On TV

NBC 6 [South Florida], by Staff

Florida Democrat Joe Garcia was caught on video by C-Span picking his ear then putting his finger in his mouth and then appearing to eat the contents removed from the ear. The video was from a House Judiciary Committee meeting last Wednesday when he was caught in the act of apparently snacking on the wax, according to USAToday.com. The video was quick fodder for the National Republican Congressional Committee which tweeted out a GIF of the video. Garcia is one of a number of Democratic freshmen being targeted by Republicans in the 2014 mid-term Congressional election. Garcia released a statement Tuesday evening

Imagine a Republican caught doing this. Imagine endlessly repeated headlines and video clips on every MSM "news" report from now until the midterms. Imagine.

President Obama was caught on camera chewing gum during the D-Day ceremonies in France as Queen Elizabeth II was welcomed, and Twitter feeds worldwide exploded with criticism. “Obama and his chewing-gum. Classy” one French user tweeted sarcastically. “Not very elegant, the Obama attitude in the middle of the ceremony,” another user said, while yet another added, “Is there anyone who will ask Barack Obama to stop chewing on his gum like a cowboy?” The words “shameful” and “vulgar” were thrown around as social media networks lit up with outrage at Mr. Obama’s display. “Obama do you want a Coke too while chewing gum while

A court ruling to sue opposition leader Leopoldo López in jail is "harmful" for the opposition-government talks intended to mitigate the political crisis in Venezuela, said on Thursday State Department Deputy Spokesperson Marie Harf. The trial against López "certainly does not help and is quite detrimental to the process" of dialogue, Harf said in a press conference, AFP reported. For the United States, "dialogue is the path to take" in Venezuela, "rather than political detentions or attempts to criminalize dissent," said the official, calling on both sides to find a way to advance dialogue. Uruguayan government negotiations with Washington to receive detainees from the US jail in Guantanamo base, and with the UN to host Syrian children and their families are well advanced, revealed Foreign minister Luis Almagro. Apparently six Guantanamo prisoners will travel to Uruguay as refugees in the near future while ACNUR, the UN agency that deals with refugees will be selecting a group of 120 Syrian children, victims of the civil war, which should be arriving in the country in two months time. “Uruguay has always received refugees” underlined Almagro.

Cases of malaria are likely to hit a record high in Venezuela. A total of 31,761 cases were reported on May 18-24, according to the latest Epidemiology Report issued by the Health Ministry. The situation is alarming, considering that 1,583 new cases were recorded in a single week, 6.76% over the numbers shown in the last report. Once again, most occurrences were recorded in the states of Bolívar (southeast) and Amazonas (south) with 94.5%. The best preventative measure is not going to endemic areas. Other measures include the use of insect repellent and mosquito nets.

The exchange of five Taliban detainees at Guantanamo for a U.S. Army soldier held captive in Afghanistan could set a precedent for a similar swap with Cuba, a Cuban intelligence agent who spent years imprisoned in the United States said Monday. Fernando Gonzalez, who returned to the island in February after serving more than 15 years behind bars in the United States, said the deal to secure the release of Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl has a clear parallel to the cases of U.S. government subcontractor Alan Gross and three Cuban agents still imprisoned in the United States. "It is obvious that the only

She also said the “acute urgency” of Bergdahl’s health condition justified President Obama’s not notifying Congress beforehand that Bergdahl was being swapped for five Taliban detainees at Guantanamo Bay. President Obama promised a powerful speech on national-security policy on Wednesday to the graduates of the United States Military Academy. Instead, the chief executive reinforced the notion that in an increasingly dangerous world, he is in over his head. Obama´s principal argument was that U.S. national security must not be based solely on military power, and that America cannot go it alone in the world. But this was no grand revelation; every recent president has believed the same thing. Even George W. Bush, falsely criticized for unilateralism, assembled a larger international coalition than any Obama has put together.

This school year, parents learned a tough lesson: The only force on behalf of the public interest is an interested public. And sometimes the students show us the way. Nine public school children have been courageously taking on the government in California, where their right to a sound education is rooted in the Constitution. A judge’s decision is expected soon, and their lawsuit is being watched closely in education circles. Given the stakes, Vergara v. California—so named for one of the plaintiffs, student Beatriz Vergara—deserves even wider attention. Win or lose, these students are reminding us of the activism that

The seeds of what blossomed grotesquely in the Rose Garden last weekend — a celebration of the release of five senior Taliban military leaders in exchange for a U.S. sergeant purported to be a deserter — were sown a long time ago: on the second and third days of President Obama’s first term, to be precise. On his second day in office, the president signed an executive order directing that the Guantanamo Bay detention facility be closed. You can watch the cringe-inducing video of the signing ceremony on YouTube, as the president stumbles through a reading of the order to

One of the most striking elements of the Bowe Bergdahl affair is word that top Army officers were so anxious to keep the matter a secret that they directed Bergdahl´s fellow soldiers to sign a pledge of silence about his 2009 decision to walk away from duty in Afghanistan. Now, with Bergdahl back in U.S. hands, many of those former soldiers are ignoring the agreement they signed. They
