Why can´t we see?
PJ Media, by Richard Fernandez

Original Article

A video showing abducted Nigerian schoolgirls converting to Islam may cast doubt on narratives that Boko Haram problem is really about patriarchal fears of women’s education (“why are men scared of smart girls”) or simple “ethnic tensions” in Nigeria. (Snip) When low information voters look at the world all they see it as a collection of Narratives. In that world, Donald Sterling, Jay-Z and Kim Kardashian are the weighty issues of the day. In that universe Hillary Clinton is the smartest woman who ever lived. It’s little wonder that Nigeria cannot even find the Boko Haram. The West can’t see

Here´s another warning from Wretchard for us (US) to open our eyes, focus, perceive reality, and start behaving proactively before we are forced to react to a world that is burning. What categorical disasters Obama and Co. are.

As usual, R.F. gives us the big picture. As for behaving proactively, the likelihood is vanishingly low. In times past, before the Powers that Were had a naked vested interest in keeping the populace fat, dumb, and distracted, we stood at the brink but didn´t step back: not in 1861, or 1914, or 1939. Anyone who thinks we can do it now is smoking some awfully optimistic stuff.

No, I fear the world is already burning, and the only way to deal with the catastrophe is to let it happen -- and then find out whether those of us who still have the ability, not to mention the will, can bring us through it, however bloody and bowed.

Every word of this outstanding article should be read and read, again – please consider it as a ‘Must Read’.

As related so deftly by Mr. Richard Fernandez: Vladimir Putin has blithely marched into the Ukraine; China has boldly defied international law by planting an oil rig in Vietnamese waters; young girls have been kidnapped and forced to embrace Islam; CAIR wants ‘jihadism and Islamist extremism’ edited from a 9/11 Museum video on Al Queda; Russia has said that we can’t use the International Space Station any more. And our response? FTA: “Not to worry. A State Department hashtag is probably being crafted as we speak.”

“Suppose the world isn’t being wracked by issues like ‘smart girls’ or ‘gay rights’. What if the world is going to pieces over oil, national rivalry, rampant political corruption and the rise of unopposed tyranny?

“When low information voters look at the world all they see it as (sic) a collection of Narratives. In that world, Donald Sterling, Jay-Z and Kim Kardashian are the weighty issues of the day. In that universe Hillary Clinton is the smartest woman who ever lived.

“One day we may wake up to find the real world is out there. One which unlike the Obama Reality Show, runs on energy, security and food; a world where love, belief and country still matter. Not Black Masses, kissing NFL lovers or transgender soldiers.

“It’s like being in a nightmare where you are paralyzed as some nameless fear comes closer and closer. The West is transfixed, stunned by its own toxic cocktail of lies. That we will wake up is inevitable. The danger is that if we remain asleep too long, the world may already be burning by the time we look out the window.”

That´s no typo: The name of Ferrari´s latest thunderbolt is LaFerrari, with the article lewdly rubbing against the proper noun. It´s a great name. First, note the anapestic gallop: la-fer-RAR-eee. For a company whose symbol is a black horse this is a trick worthy of our beloved Dante. Please observe, too, how it´s a name that doesn´t give a damn about Anglophones. Is it "the LaFerrari," which parses as "the the Ferrari"? Away from the factory gates, English dog. In tune with a Latin ear, the name italicizes exclusivity and rarity. In his famous short story The Sound of Thunder, Bradbury argued the present stood perched on the past. (Snip) Even if it were possible to change the past, Bradbury argues there is no guarantee that the resulting alternative future would be any better. Our task must to leave the world better than we found it, not to remake it from the foundations. That doesn’t mean the past is gone, but it lacks the special quality of activity. The dead are already costed into the present. They’ve set out the crib, screwed in the lightbulb, defeated Hitler; they were present at

TARPON SPRINGS — It took more than 50 days and intervention by U.S. officials for the six-man of crew of Aqua Quest to finally be freed from a jail in a remote port in Honduras. The captain of the Tarpon Springs salvage ship, Robert Mayne, says he feels lucky. “For us, it was a brutal, difficult, long, slow procedure. Our friends in Honduras told us it was lighting quick. They generally never move that quick,” said Mayne, who was jailed on May 5 along with his crew on charges of smuggling weapons in the port town of Puerto Lempira. Others

News that Quinnipiac poll finds president Obama is the “worst president since World War II” was greeted with amusement. (Snip) . But the real news is this: it’s not working any more. Even Obamacare might actually be repealed. Liberal foreign policy might really go down in flames. Already the authorities are warning of bombs on inbound airline flights. And Obama might actually be the worst president since World War 2. Things used to be under control; what happened? What happened wasn’t the Republican Party.

Others get to us slowly and surely over time. Imagine a heehaw laugher. A knuckle cracker. A braggart who always tries to one-up you. A person who thinks loud belching is a compliment to the chef. When Gerald Ford remarked that “a government big enough to give you everything you want is a government big enough to take from you everything you have” he might have been commenting on the Supreme Court Hobby Lobby decision which ruled 5-4 as the Washington Post reports: “that the arts-and-crafts chain does not have to offer insurance for four types of birth control that conflict with company owners’ religious beliefs.” Walter Russell Mead gets what is at issue. Beyond the narrow facts of the decision, the case itself underlines the unpleasantly large scope that government regulation now covers. Government, to

CARACAS, VENEZUELA – Already grappling with street protests led by the right, Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro is facing a new threat from an unlikely place: old-school leftists who accuse him of betraying the socialist legacy that carried him to power. Maduro was tapped by Hugo Chavez as his preferred successor to the presidency, and is quick to invoke the late leader´s name, but orthodox socialists are grumbling over liberalized currency reforms they say are counter to the revolution. The tensions came to a head last week when Maduro fired Planning Minister Jorge Giordani, a Marxist economist whose Spartan lifestyle and

President Obama has, except on fleeting occasions, routinely disdained the customary Oval Office language of compromise and coalition-building for the low arts of sophistry and belittlement. That was to be expected, given his background as a Chicago community organizer and product of that city´s corrupt Democrat political machine. But Obama has far exceeded dismal expectations. No previous American president employed the systematic distortion of fact and mendacious characterization of opponents that have typified Obama´s presidency. His "so sue me" speech last week is a classic illustration of the community organizer practicing Saul Alinsky´s 13th rule: “Pick the target, freeze it, personalize

The headline of today’s jobs report, that 288,000 jobs were created in the last month, is positive. At least, it is better than a poke in the eye with a sharp stick. However, as with most economic reports these days, there is a veneer of good news — but when you look closer, the White House is using the positive headlines to hide the growing deterioration of the American workforce. I’m sure by now people are tired of reading about the bad news, and I’ll admit I am weary of having to blow the whistle and expose the truth every
