Air Force plan to strip
generals of authority

Washington Times, by Maggie Ybarra

Senior Air Force leaders have drafted a budget-driven plan that would strip the three- and four-star generals who oversee major commands of their authority to manage their bases. A draft of the plan obtained by The Washington Times shows that the Air Force is aiming to consolidate support operations under the umbrella of a single center, known as the Air Force Installation and Mission Support Center. The tricky endeavor would shuffle day-to-day base management issues — such as construction, maintenance and procurement of equipment and supplies — from under the authority of the senior generals who command the bases to

The articles I am reading about the destruction of our military just horrify me. We all are very much aware of cutting costs in this government, but destroying the military is terrifying. Again I say, quit giving illegals free everything! Cut the waste, get out of the U.N., cut Obamaphones, etc. etc. not the military!

While I agree with OP re the destruction of our military, I also think we Americans are safer with a smaller military under this president. We rebuilt many times before.

Only really intelligent people are tempted to make really obvious mistakes.

In this case - no one will be in charge and no one will be accoutable. Yes. It is an incredibly obvious mistake.

Okay, how will this work for the Joint Bases controlled by the Air Force?

The USAF 1-star who runs everything but our actual Army units will no longer report to the local USAF 4-star, but to this new Support Center. Right now, when the one-star does something really doofus, our Army 2- and 3-stars can complain to the 4-star.

So what kind of system will be in place for our Army generals to complain to the Support System?

And how well will they be heard?

When they cut the Air Force bases budgets and the Joint Base is considered an Air Force base and the Army post is part of it, how much hearing will the ARMY needs - which are completely out of the Air Force´s area of responsibility - going to get?

(And for some reason, the Air Force cuts libraries while keeping golf courses open. Even on a post containing a major training command.)

What could possible go wrong with a process where all decisions have to be made by a centralized authority with no vested interest in what is actually happening at the local level...see Obamacare, the VA, the Dept of Education, EPA, etc for your answer

This idea puts the USA in grave danger.
Are there no honorable men left in the AF willing to "take a bullet" for the survival of the United States Military? SPEAK UP !
Ditto for the diminished Navy, Army, Marines, SEALs, Coast Guard.
We should all be very worried about this, because our lives DO depend on the military.
Ask yourself, what is Obama´s motive in this?
He is throwing away billions all over the world.

The Army and Navy already have central management of their installations. There probably should be a DOD agency to manage all installations. Being a landlord-- providing building maintenance, keeping the lights on, checking ID at the gate-- are not Service-specific functions.

As we say in my unit, garrison is breaking out all over the place. The wear of reflective belts has become more important than preparing for war.

#9 I disagree with you. I am in the installation business and I am sure the local base engineer/Facility manager along with their commander are in a far better position to know what they need to accomplish their mission as opposed to some retired colonel who is now a GS15 civilian in D.C.

As a former Army Officer I can categorically state that decisions made at the lowest responsible level has worked for our military for 250 years. As Yogi Berra once said, "If it ain´t broke, don´t fix it!". To paraphrase our current pretender in the White House, "We have the best military in the history of the world, whould you all join me to fundamentally change it!"

A month before former Alaska Governor Sarah Palin called for President Barack Obama to be impeached on the pages of Breitbart News over his lawlessness on illegal immigration, Obama was already concerned that his unilateral actions on immigration could warrant impeachment. He even kind of joked with pro-amnesty activists not to push him to do something that would get him impeached. Here´s how Politico describes what occurred during a private meeting between Obama and pro-amnesty activists last month: President Barack Obama listened to immigration activists run through a long wish list of executive actions – then added a request of

Despite evidence that the current border crisis is at least partly the result of its previous executive action on immigration, the White House decided it was merely a "public relations problem" and moved forward with plans to issue further executive actions along similar lines. The New York Times has a piece out today which contains some new insight into the White House´s thinking about the border crisis and how it relates to the President´s stated goal of taking action on immigration without Congress. The Times article states, "In the days leading up to the Rose Garden speech, there were discussions in the

The central weakness of the Republican´s political position in Washington has been on vivid display as the situation at the southern border has devolved into a complete crisis. As tens of thousands of foreign nationals overwhelm the border and render our sovereign boundary meaningless, Republicans in DC are tinkering with legislative fixes they say will address the situation. As if the crisis at the border is the result of some drafting error or a failure to enact some specific law relevant to this precise set of circumstances. It is a fool´s errand. WESLACO - BCFS Health and Human Services on Wednesday withdrew a proposal to turn a Weslaco hotel into a facility for young illegal immigrants. A media release from the group of non-profit agencies cited "negative backlash caused by information misreported to the public" as the reason for walking away from the project. BCFS last week submitted a request for a conditional use permit to relocate its facility from Harlingen to Weslaco. The agency had agreed to use $3.8 million in non-government funds to buy the Palm Aire Hotel and Suites on FM 1015. BCFS sought to turn the hotel into
